Rebirth 1970: I Emptied My Family's House Before Going to the Countryside

In her previous life, Qin Hanshu couldn't cope and took her own life when her stepfather forced her to the countryside. After her death, her soul attached itself to a prayer bead that her steps...

Chapter 183 Qin Feiyang's Career Change

"Rumei." Qin Hanshu suddenly walked in one direction.

Ru Mei, heavily pregnant, turned around when she heard Qin Hanshu's call and smiled brightly at her, "You've signed up for the exam too?"

"Yes." Qin Hanshu walked closer and sighed, "It's been so long since we last saw each other, and your belly is so big now."

“Yes, that’s right,” Ru Mei said, touching her belly. “The last time we met, I was only two months pregnant, and now I’m almost due.”

Ru Mei and Huo Zhenduo did not have children for the first two years of their marriage, and this was her first pregnancy.

Huo Zhenduo carefully protected Ru Mei from behind, only politely greeting Qin Hanshu and Zhou Weiguang who had followed.

Qin Hanshu couldn't help but sigh. Huo Zhenduo was not only completely different from the one in the previous life, but also very different from the one when they first met in this life.

The fierceness in his eyes gradually faded, replaced by a more gentle and refined demeanor.

Even the scar on his cheekbone didn't seem scary anymore.

Qin Hanshu exchanged a few pleasantries with Ru Mei, and then the group parted ways.

The exam lasted two days. After the second day ended, Zhou Weiguang stood at the door waiting for her again.

Zhou Weiguang spoke first: "I came here today specifically to pick you up."

Qin Hanshu gave him a playful, reproachful look.

Zhou Weiguang straightened his hat and then said, "Come on, let me treat you to a meal at a restaurant."

"Zhou Chi is still at home."

Zhou Weiguang said, "It's alright, I've already entrusted him to the upstairs neighbors."

Qin Hanshu thought for a moment and said, "Then I'm going to Guangdelou for a good meal."

Zhou Weiguang: "Okay!"

I was on edge the whole time during the exams, and as soon as I relaxed afterward, all I wanted to do was have a big meal.

Zhou Weiguang ordered four dishes and a soup without hesitation, saying that he had brought his own lunchbox and could take the leftovers home.

"By the way, your brother might be changing careers."

Qin Hanshu was not surprised at all. "Wasn't he going to change careers sooner or later?"

He spent several more years in the military in this lifetime.

Qin Hanshu asked, "Can he transfer to Jiangcheng? Or does he have to return to his hometown?"

If he had to return to his ancestral home, Qin Feiyang would have to go back to the capital.

Zhou Weiguang said, "He is eligible to transfer to Jiangcheng because your sister-in-law has a Jiangcheng household registration. But Zhang Lei has to go back to his hometown."

Qin Hanshu looked up in surprise, "Battalion Commander Zhang is also leaving the military?"

Zhou Weiguang: "Zhang Lei failed to advance again this time. He is already thirty-eight years old, and the maximum age for a battalion-level officer is forty. Although it's not now, he will most likely have to be demobilized next year or the year after."

Zhang Lei has been in his current position for a long time.

In fact, when he was young, Zhang Lei's career path was no worse than Zhou Weiguang's, but he didn't have the same advantages as Zhou Weiguang—he had enough merits to back him up and a mentor to recognize his talent.

However, after being demobilized and returning to his hometown, Zhang Lei no longer had to toil in the fields for a living, which can be considered as having achieved a leap in social class.

"So, Sister-in-law Er Cui will also have to go back to her hometown, and we won't see her again?" Qin Hanshu's mood immediately soured.

Zhou Weiguang didn't know how to comfort him, and after thinking for a long time, he said, "All good things must come to an end."

Yes, gatherings and separations are the norm in life.

After finishing the meal, Zhou Weiguang looked at Qin Hanshu and said, "Wife, let's go pay the bill."

Qin Hanshu didn't move. "Didn't you say you were treating me to a meal at a restaurant? Why do I have to pay the bill?"

Zhou Weiguang wasn't embarrassed at all, "I have no money."

He spoke so confidently and loudly that a man and a woman at the next table looked over.

The two men sized up Zhou Weiguang, seemingly surprised that someone in military uniform would be a kept man, their faces filled with disbelief.

Qin Hanshu suppressed a laugh and went downstairs to pay the bill.

Back at the residential compound, just as I got downstairs, I ran into Qin Feiyang and his family of three.

Qin Feiyang held his daughter Mengmeng in his arms, while Cao Jing carried some things in her hands.

Mengmeng's eyes lit up when she saw Qin Hanshu and Zhou Weiguang, and she sweetly called out, "Auntie, Uncle."

Zhou Weiguang couldn't help but curl his lips into a gentle smile and agree.

Mengmeng is a year younger than Zhou Chi. She is delicate and soft, and is the ideal daughter of Zhou Weiguang and Qin Hanshu.

Qin Hanshu reached out her arms, "Auntie, hug me."

The little girl immediately pounced on her.

Qin Hanshu picked him up and weighed him in her arms. "He's a bit heavier. Has he grown taller?"

Mengmeng nodded her little head, "Yes, Mengmeng eats two big bags of paper in one meal."

Cao Jing laughed and said, "What big steamed bun? It's a small steamed bun, you can eat two of them."

When her mother teased her, Mengmeng pouted and crossed her arms to look angry.

Qin Hanshu said, "To our Mengmeng, it's like a big steamed bun, right?"

Mengmeng immediately smiled again and nodded.

The adults all laughed.

As they walked upstairs, Qin Hanshu asked, "Are you going back to your parents' home?"

“Yes.” Cao Jing nodded.

Qin Feiyang asked Qin Hanshu, "How did your exam go? Are you confident you'll get into university?"

Cao Jing glanced at him sideways, "Don't you know that people who have just come out of the exam hall hate being asked this question the most?"

Qin Feiyang shut his mouth. "Pretend I didn't say anything."

Zhou Weiguang turned his head and sized up Qin Feiyang for a few seconds, a half-smile on his face.

Qin Feiyang retorted defiantly: What? Haven't you ever seen someone afraid of their wife?

Upon reaching her doorstep, Qin Hanshu said to Zhou Weiguang, "Go upstairs and bring Zhou Chi back. I need to say a few words to my brother and sister-in-law."

Zhou Weiguang: "What are you saying? Can't I listen in?"

"Tsk," Qin Hanshu frowned, "I asked you to pick up Zhou Chi, why are you talking so much?"

Zhou Weiguang touched his nose, turned his head and saw Qin Feiyang staring at him, giving him a "you're nothing special" look.
