Su Jianguo took his last breath on his sickbed, still hearing the quarrel of his five children fighting over 300,000 yuan for surgery fees.
When he opened his eyes again, he had returned to t...
And now, she is about to destroy it all with her own hands.
at the same time.
On the other side.
Su Jian's family.
After Su Mingfu left, Su Jianguo's whole family mobilized to set up a tofu shop for Su Yufen.
Su Jianguo stood at the entrance of the backyard warehouse, holding a rusty key in his hand, squinting at it in the sunlight.
"This lock probably hasn't been opened in years."
He muttered to himself, turning the key hard, the lock cylinder making a piercing "click-clack" sound.
Su Yufen stood behind her father, the sunlight shining on her slightly pale face, revealing a fine layer of sweat.
This was the first time she had the opportunity to do something on her own since her divorce, and she felt both nervous and excited.
"Dad, do you need my help?"
She stepped forward, her voice filled with barely concealed urgency.
Su Jianguo turned around and glanced at his eldest daughter, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"What's the rush? This lock is badly rusted; we have to take our time."
He put in a little more effort, and finally, with a "click," the lock opened.
"Oh my God!"
Wang Xiulan walked over carrying a bucket of water and exclaimed in surprise when she saw the rust and dust falling from the warehouse door.
"How many years has it been since it was last driven?"
Su Yuzhen followed slowly behind her mother, chewing on a blade of grass in her mouth, looking unwilling.
"What's all this fuss about so early in the morning? What can you possibly do with this shabby house?"
"Your sister wants to open a tofu shop, and this place is perfect."
Su Jianguo pushed open the door, and a musty smell wafted out. He couldn't help but take two steps back and fan the dust off in front of him.
Su Yufen couldn't wait to peek inside.
Sunlight streamed through the cracks in the door, revealing a warehouse filled with a jumble of odds and ends, with spiderwebs hanging down from the rafters like curtains.
Her eyes lit up, as if she could already see a clean and tidy tofu shop.
"Cough cough..."
Wang Xiulan coughed repeatedly, choked by the dust.
"This is no place for a human to live; it needs to be cleaned up."
"If you're going to pack, then pack; why do you have to drag me into it?"
Su Yuzhen pouted and kicked at the pebbles on the ground with her toes.
Clearly, he was very unhappy about being called over to work so early in the morning.
Su Jianguo turned around and glared at his youngest daughter.
"Your sister starting a business is a major event for the whole family; no one can slack off."
As he spoke, he picked up several brooms and rags and distributed them to everyone.
"It has to be finished this morning, and this afternoon I'll go to the village to find Stonemason Zhao to order a stone mill."
Su Yuzhen reluctantly took the broom, muttering under her breath.
"You always order me around..."
Su Yufen had already rolled up her sleeves and entered the storeroom, carefully avoiding the clutter on the ground.
Her gaze swept over the dusty old furniture, broken baskets, and bundled newspapers and magazines.
I've already started planning where to put the millstone and where to place the large pot for boiling soy milk.
"Sis, what are you grinning about?"
Su Yuzhen leaned over and poked her sister's back with the broom handle.
"I think this place would look really nice once it's cleaned up."
Su Yufen turned around, her face beaming with an undisguised smile.
"Look, this location faces south, gets plenty of sunlight, and is close to the well, making it convenient to get water."
Wang Xiulan came in carrying a bucket of water and couldn't help but laugh when she heard this.
"You little rascal, you're quite the schemer."
She put down the bucket and began assigning tasks.
"Yufen, go wipe the windows. Yuzhen, sweep the floor. Boss, move those big items out; I'll take care of cleaning them."
The family got busy.
Su Jianguo bent down and picked up an old wooden box, then suddenly exclaimed "Eh!"
"Isn't this the toolbox I used when I was an apprentice?"
He blew the dust off the box, revealing blurry red paint writing on it.
"Dad, what's that?"
Su Yufen curiously leaned closer.
Su Jianguo opened the box, inside which were various tools neatly arranged. Although some were rusty, they were well preserved.
"This was my livelihood when I was an apprentice; I didn't expect it to still be here."
Wang Xiulan walked over and glanced at it.
"Keep it; you might need it later."
Although her tone was calm, there was a hint of nostalgia in her eyes.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Su Yuzhen leaned the broom against the wall and slipped over to the box to rummage through it.
"What's the point of keeping all this junk? It's just taking up space."
She picked up a pair of electrician's pliers, casually tossed them back into the box with a loud "bang".
"Be gentle!"
Su Jianguo frowned.
"These are all good things, what do you know?"
"I don't understand, only you do."
Su Yuzhen rolled her eyes and turned to leave, but her mother grabbed her arm.
"I told you to sweep the floor, what are you doing here?"
Wang Xiulan pointed to the obvious dust marks on the ground.
"Look at this, it's still not clean even after sweeping!"
Su Yuzhen pouted and reluctantly picked up the broom again.
"You're always criticizing me. I haven't been cleaning the windows either."
Su Yufen was standing on a small wooden stool, diligently wiping the glass on the upper floor.
Hearing her sister's words, she turned around and smiled.
"I'll be right there, I'll come help you in a bit."
"Who needs your help?"
Su Yuzhen muttered to herself, but swept the dust on the ground even more vigorously, raising a cloud of dust.
"Ahem... Yuzhen! Keep an eye on things!"
Wang Xiulan coughed repeatedly, choked by the dust.
Su Jianguo shook his head and continued cleaning up the clutter in the warehouse.
He moved aside several old baskets, revealing a rectangular object wrapped in oilcloth underneath.
