Rebirth 1983: I'll Make the Ungrateful Children Kneel and Beg for Mercy

Su Jianguo took his last breath on his sickbed, still hearing the quarrel of his five children fighting over 300,000 yuan for surgery fees.

When he opened his eyes again, he had returned to t...

Chapter 41 Wang Defa's wife visits

After seeing off the senior leader, Su Jianguo was covered in cold sweat.

He was really terrified. How could he not know the extent of his injuries?

Or rather, Director Zhang and the other high-ranking leaders really didn't know?

not necessarily.

Fortunately, they were in the right, and with their father's influence, the matter was eventually resolved satisfactorily.

For the next few days, Su Jianguo's family lived a happy life, with all their expenses reimbursed.

Every day, the family ate and drank well, quietly waiting for the verdict and the people who would come to pay compensation.

That morning.

A gleaming black sedan slowly came to a stop in front of the hospital gate.

The car door opened, and the first thing to emerge was a foot wearing high heels, the shoes studded with sparkling rhinestones.

Liu Cuihua climbed out of the car. She was in her forties, with a head of fashionable curly hair, thick makeup on her face, and bright red lips.

A simply dressed woman was standing beside him.

"Mom, shouldn't we buy some fruit or something?"

Li Fang asked in a low voice. She was in her early twenties, wearing an elegant dress, and clutching her bag strap tightly in her hand.

Liu Cuihua snorted coldly and poked the hospital building with her bright red nail polished finger.

"I'm already being polite by even talking to them. And you think I'd buy things for those country bumpkins? They don't deserve it!"

Her voice was sharp and piercing, drawing the attention of passing patients and their families.

"I'm telling you, Xiaofang."

Liu Cuihua grabbed her daughter-in-law's arm, her nails almost digging into her flesh.

"You're useless too. If you hadn't let Zhenguo out there fooling around, none of this would have happened."

Li Fang lowered her head, not daring to refute.

Liu Cuihua became increasingly angry as she spoke, raising her voice by eight octaves.

"My son is incredibly unlucky to have married you! You can't even keep a man, and all you do is pretend to be high and mighty! Now look what's happened, your father-in-law and your husband have both been arrested, are you satisfied now?"

The security guard at the hospital entrance frowned, but seeing Liu Cuihua's attire and the car parked next to her, he didn't dare to step forward to stop her.

"Those bastards from the Su family are nothing but a bunch of desperate, penniless peasants!"

Liu Cuihua stood with her hands on her hips, spitting as she spoke.

"So what if my son hit them? That's giving them face! They even dared to call the police and cause trouble—they've really gone too far!"

Li Fang gently tugged at her mother-in-law's sleeve.

"Mom, there are too many people here..."

"So what if there are a lot of people?"

Liu Cuihua flung her hand away.

"Who have I, Liu Cuihua, ever feared in Beijing? Those country bumpkins are just trying to extort money from my family. I'd like to see just how big their appetites are."

She straightened her expensive silk cheongsam, walked into the hospital lobby with her head held high, and her high heels clicked loudly on the marble floor.

Li Fang jogged to catch up, her face full of unease.

"Room 302, right?"

Liu Cuihua asked the nurse at the nurses' station in an arrogant tone.

The young nurse looked up, intimidated by Liu Cuihua's imposing manner, and stammered in response.

"Yes, yes, on the third floor..."

Before Liu Cuihua could finish listening, she turned and walked towards the stairs, muttering to herself.

"A bunch of ill-mannered bastards, they can't even be tactless with a nurse."

As they went upstairs, Liu Cuihua suddenly turned to Li Fang and said something.

"When you go in, don't say a word, just watch my signals. Those country folk are easy to fool; a little something sweet and they'll sign a letter of understanding."

Li Fang nodded.

The two walked to the door of ward 302.

Liu Cuihua didn't knock; she just pushed the door open abruptly.

The door slammed against the wall with a loud "bang".

Liu Cuihua, in her high heels, burst in like a whirlwind, followed by the meek and submissive Li Fang.

Su Jianguo was leaning against the headboard drinking porridge when the sudden noise startled him so much that his hand trembled and the porcelain spoon clattered into the bowl.

All the members of the Su family in the ward looked up, staring in astonishment at the uninvited guest.

Which one is Su Jianguo?

Liu Cuihua looked down at the men on the hospital beds, tapping her handbag impatiently with her fingers.

Su Jianguo squinted and slowly put down the bowl of porridge.

"Comrade, who are you...?"

"I am Wang Defa's wife!"

Liu Cuihua interrupted him, saying that she felt disgusted just talking to this kind of country bumpkin.

She yanked a piece of paper out of her handbag and slapped it directly onto Su Jianguo's chest.

"You, sign this!"

Su Jianguo looked down and saw that it was a "Letter of Understanding".

Looking at the contents above, Su Jianguo instantly understood.

The letter of understanding stated, "I voluntarily forgive Wang Zhenguo's wrongdoing."

He looked up, a cold smile playing on his lips.

"Madam Wang, what's wrong...?"

"Enough with the nonsense!"

Liu Cuihua waved her hand impatiently.

"Sign the papers, and that's the end of it. Our family promises not to cause you any trouble, and we'll give you another thousand yuan—enough for you country bumpkins to live on for a lifetime!"

The ward fell so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Su Jianguo's three sons stared wide-eyed, the second son, Su Mingde, turning pale with anger, his fingers gripping the bedsheet tightly.

Grandpa Su sat in the chair by the window. His eyes, which had been closed to rest, slowly opened, and his cloudy but sharp gaze fell on Liu Cuihua.

"What? You think it's not enough?"

Seeing that no one responded, Liu Cuihua let out a cold laugh.

"That's true. People like you peasants are like flies to dung when you see money."
