Dark fog, extreme cold, meteor showers, extreme heat, zombies, mutated flora and fauna, insect swarms, beast surges...
The Water Blue Star suddenly entered an apocalypse without warning.
<...“Hey Nanxing,” Li Kongyuan’s voice came through the walkie-talkie, “Stop the car.”
Nanxing slammed on the brakes: "Something happened? Do you need help?"
Li Kongyuan's voice seemed somewhat cold: "There are survivors blocking the vehicle. Don't move for now. Wait for further instructions in the vehicle."
Banxia opened the window and stretched her neck to look ahead.
There were about forty or fifty people standing on one side of the street, men, women, young and old. The only thing they had in common was that they were all emaciated and dressed in dirty clothes.
The elderly couple, who were leading the way, blocked the middle of the road with fierce expressions: "I am a taxpayer. You are supported by the money I pay. Why can't I get on the bus?"
The soldiers in the vehicle tried to explain, "Ma'am, we are on an emergency mission and are not responsible for rescue. Don't worry, we will have our rescue team come when we get back to base."
"Pah!" The old man kicked at the car wheel, but lost his balance and almost fell. "They're hitting people! They're hitting people! The soldiers are hitting people!"
Banxia believed that if the ground hadn't been so hot, the old man would have definitely lay down on it.
She closed the car window, somewhat bored, and rested her head on Nanxing's shoulder, muttering, "So annoying, I should have just left alone."
Nanxing patted her hair reassuringly: "If Li Kongyuan hasn't finished dealing with this in half an hour, we'll leave first."
“I hate humans, except you.” Banxia hugged Nanxing’s arm and added, “Well, Yao-ge, Xiao-xiao-jie, Yun-yun-jie, Yuan-ge and Xuan-ge are also excluded.”
She knows there are good people in the world and shouldn't condemn them all, but that doesn't stop her from stubbornly hating humanity.
Nanxing knew her worries: "After we find the supplies, we'll go back to the mountain and not interact with outsiders."
Things often don't go as planned; within minutes, someone would start banging on the car door.
Banxia expressionlessly pulled a pistol from her pocket and rolled down the car window: "What?"
The man knocking on the door was startled and took several steps back, his face filled with terror, unable to speak.
The woman next to him sneered loudly: "Don't think you can scare me with a toy gun. Open the door and let me up!"
"Young lady," another tall man shoved the woman aside, "your boss told us to get in the car, open the door now!"
"What are you guys doing here?!" A soldier with a sunburned face ran over from a distance. "This isn't an army vehicle!"
The woman's face seemed to change instantly. She smiled ingratiatingly at the soldier and said, "Young man, I'm physically weak and easily get dizzy in trucks. Isn't this just asking the young lady for a ride?"
Where the soldiers couldn't see, she looked at Banxia with a sinister gaze.
Banxia stated truthfully: "These people said that Li Kongyuan sent them to ride in my car."
She paused, then added, "I have a bad temper. If anyone comes to bother me again, I'll just shoot."
The soldier knew she wasn't joking and quickly said, "Don't worry, I'll make them leave right away."
After saying that, he blocked their way like a herd of ducks, saying, "Hurry up! Didn't I tell you this isn't our car..."
The woman was still somewhat unconvinced. She turned around and glared at Banxia, muttering incoherently, "Pah, what a piece of trash. A young girl riding in such a nice car, isn't she just getting ahead by selling her body..."
Banxia's eyes turned cold, and she pulled the trigger.
"Bang--"
The woman collapsed to the ground instantly.
The other two men jumped several meters away as if the ground were burning their feet, pointing at Banxia with terrified eyes: "M-murder!"
The soldier swallowed hard, looking at Banxia with a mixture of admiration and hesitation: "You, you..."
He coughed lightly and said in a low voice, "I will report to the leadership truthfully, so please don't worry."
Banxia was somewhat surprised; she had thought the soldiers thought she had done something wrong.
However, she didn't say much. If Li Kongyuan dared to break his promise, she would go on strike and run away.
A few minutes later, Li Kongyuan's voice came through the walkie-talkie: "Nanxing, let's go."
He made no mention of the murder he had just committed.
Banxia was very satisfied with Li Kongyuan's pragmatism. If Li Kongyuan hadn't been so clear-headed, she wouldn't have tolerated him.
About an hour and a half later, the convoy arrived near its destination.
The North Suburb Logistics Park covers a large area and has large cold storage facilities, so most of the pharmaceutical companies in City A have their warehouses located here.
Banxia opened the car window to check the situation: "There are quite a few zombies..."
They had passed through the city along the way, so a large number of zombies followed behind their car; at a glance, there were at least one or two thousand.
Li Kongyuan's voice also came through the walkie-talkie: "Teams one through five, get off the vehicles and provide suppressive fire."
"Bang bang bang—"
Gunshots rang out, and the zombies fell.
The Devouring Tree scurried out of its flowerpot: "Banxia, I want to go down and fight zombies to dig for crystal cores!"
Banxia casually tugged at its branch: "I'd like to too, but we're in Team Six, and we have to follow orders."
The Devouring Tree sighed, "Alas—"
It's so boring when there's no fighting.
Banxia thought for a moment and said, "After we finish the mission, we can kill zombies for a few days or go for a trip in the mountains."
"Teams six through ten, disembark and provide support."
Banxia opened the car door, and Jinzi, Yinzi, Tiantian, and Xingzi jumped out of the car impatiently and rushed towards the horde of zombies.
Tuanzi clung tightly to Nanxing's legs with all four of its legs, making soft whimpering noises, seemingly terrified.
Nanxing bent down and hugged Tuanzi, gently comforting her, "It's dangerous outside, Tuanzi, why don't you wait for your older brother and sister in the car?"
Upon hearing this, Tuanzi hugged even tighter.
Banxia rubbed Tuanzi's black ears: "You are the famous Iron-Eating Beast, mere zombies are no match for you!"
Tuanzi looked at her with a blank expression, sticking out her tongue and acting cute: "Waaaaah!"
