1. Kangxi's Harem: ...
After Yinfu turned one year old, Wangshu would occasionally take him out of Qixiang Palace for a walk. He wasn't a real child, and Wangshu was afraid that he would get bored if he stayed in one place all the time.
That day, Wang Shu ran into Consort Hui in the Imperial Garden.
Interestingly, Consort Hui also brought her children out, two of them: the Sixth Prince Yinyi and the Eighth Prince Yinsi.
It's quite interesting, actually, that neither of the two children's mothers was favored by Emperor Kangxi.
Wang Shu and Consort Hui exchanged greetings and then began to chat.
"Why did Consort Chun leave Qixiang Palace? Doesn't she usually dislike going out?"
"I brought my child out for a stroll, and unexpectedly ran into my sister who also brought her child. By the way, where is Wei Yingtong?"
Consort Hui smiled and said, "Consort Wei was unwell, so she didn't come out."
"Then you must take good care of her. Consort Hui has really worked hard, raising three princes all by herself and doing so well. His Majesty has great faith in her abilities!"
"No, it can't compare to how well my sister's seventh prince is raised."
Wang Shu smiled shyly: "That's true. The Emperor also praised my sister for being good at raising children."
The story of Consort Hui.
"This stroller of yours is quite interesting, little sister. Could it be a gift from the Emperor?"
"No, this stroller was specially designed by my sister for Yinfu."
“My sister is really clever, but it’s the same if the wet nurse holds her.”
Wang Shu was slightly surprised: "How can this be the same? If the wet nurse always holds the child, over time, the child may become closer to the wet nurse than to the mother. This child must be raised by myself."
Upon hearing this, Consort Hui's face stiffened. Her son had been sent out of the palace to be raised since he was a child. He had been raised successfully, but their relationship was indeed somewhat distant.
He was filial, but looking back now, it seems that my son was even more affectionate towards his wet nurse than towards his mother.
Wang Shu pretended not to see the sudden change in her expression and smiled as she shared her parenting experience with her. Although Consort Hui had raised many children, she really didn't have any parenting experience.
She couldn't raise her own son. By the time he was brought back to the palace, he had already started school and they couldn't live together anymore.
As for the Sixth Prince and the Eighth Prince, neither of them were her biological sons. It's true that she often scolded the wet nurses, but she didn't really put in much effort.
Consort Hui left with an embarrassed expression, leaving behind a faint, unidentified fragrance in the air, which no one paid any attention to.
After she left, Wang Shu looked at Su Mu with a puzzled and innocent expression and asked, "What's wrong with Consort Hui? Did I do something to upset her?"
Su Mu's lips twitched slightly, and she shook her head: "Your Majesty did not displease Consort Hui."
"That's good. I know I might offend people without realizing it, as long as I haven't upset Consort Hui."
Upon hearing this, everyone else smiled without saying a word, even Yin Fu couldn't help but chuckle.
Wang Shu saw him smile and took him out of the stroller: "It seems that our Yin Fu also agrees with Mother's words! Let's go, let's go back to the palace."
On the other side, after Consort Hui returned, she had the Sixth Prince and the Eighth Prince taken away, and then summoned her trusted nanny.
"Granny, please investigate Yinti's wet nurse for me. I want to know if he is closer to her than to me, his mother."
Consort Hui's voice was undeniably cold.
"Yes, Your Majesty."
In order to protect Yinti, Consort Hui knew that the high number of infant deaths in the harem was abnormal, so she tried every means to send the child out of the palace. She made various efforts in this regard. Before Yinti, she had also miscarried a child.
She had high expectations and deep affection for Yinti, and she had given so much, so she would not allow any wet nurse to replace her as his mother.
She thought of how Kangxi treated his wet nurse. She was granted the title of First Rank Lady, and her husband and son were all given important positions. She also thought of Kangxi's birth mother, Lady Tongjia. Her family was indeed promoted, but she did not enjoy the blessings of her son.
The more Consort Hui thought about it, the angrier she became.
Not long after, Wang Shu heard that the wet nurse of the eldest prince, Yinti, had been caught embezzling his things by Consort Hui, was beaten, and sent back to the Imperial Household Department.
Now, Consort Hui has almost completely replaced everyone around the First Prince. As for whether there are other people planted among them, there certainly are. However, Consort Hui feels that people can be investigated slowly, but she cannot tolerate the wet nurse at all.
She asked the nanny to investigate the relationship between Yinti and the wet nurse, and found that Yinti was indeed very affectionate towards the wet nurse, and even more so, one could say that he was very "filial".
She is still alive and well, but her son is going to be filial to someone else. How can Consort Hui tolerate this?
Consort Hui felt better after her outburst, but the eldest prince, Yinqi, was not happy.
His wet nurse had been with him longer than his mother, and he wasn't an emotionless machine, so he felt that his mother was making a mountain out of a molehill.
"Mother, those things were all gifts from your son to the nanny. How could you give them away without even asking me?"
Consort Hui was already unhappy, and his words made her even angrier: "What? I only punished two servants who had stolen things, and you dare to question me like this? Do you think I'm not as good as your wet nurse?"
Yinti's eyes widened: "Mother, what nonsense are you talking about?!"
He's not stupid; he knows the difference between a mother and a wet nurse.
Consort Hui clutched her chest: "How dare you speak to your mother like that?"
Yinti was also a little confused. He just felt that her punishment was too much. Those things were originally gifts he had given to the wet nurses. With his mother punishing them like this, who would dare to accept his things in the future, and who would dare to serve him wholeheartedly?
"I think Mother is confused, actually comparing herself to the wet nurse."
Consort Hui's chest started to hurt really badly, and she couldn't help but cry out in pain. In the end, the imperial physician was summoned, who said that she had been so angry that she had suffered a heart attack.
