1. Kangxi's Harem: ...
After Yin Yi left, An Ning didn't stay idle either.
She summoned Granny Wulan.
Anning: "Granny, you must know about the Crown Prince being deposed!"
Granny Wulan was taken aback: "What does Your Highness intend to do?"
An Ning shook her head: "Yin Yi is young. I only hope that he can be safe and healthy. Over the years, the Emperor has been very kind to me. It is inevitable that the Emperor will be unhappy after the Crown Prince was deposed. The former Crown Prince also took good care of Yin Yi. My idea is to ask the nanny to remind the servants of the Imperial Household Department not to neglect the former Crown Prince even though he is in Yuqing Palace."
Granny Wulan was somewhat surprised. Over the years, she had come to know Anning quite well. Anning was the kind of person who would not offend others unless they offended her. She wasn't particularly kind-hearted.
Her concern for the deposed crown prince left her somewhat at a loss.
An Ning continued, "Just now Chunlan came over to talk about the Crown Prince being deposed. Yin Yi was also present. This was his idea. I only have this one son, so naturally I can't bear to see him sad."
Granny Wulan immediately said, "The Sixteenth Prince is kind and respectful to his brothers. If His Majesty knew this, he would surely be very pleased."
An Ning shook her head: "I called you here today because I wanted you to help me keep it from the Emperor. The Emperor is in a bad mood right now, and I'm afraid that Yin Yi's actions will displease him. But since Yin Yi is willing, I will naturally help him. Do you understand what I mean, Granny?"
Granny Wulan understood.
She was a servant in Changchun Palace, but also a servant of Emperor Kangxi in Qianqing Palace.
Her primary mission was to protect Anning's safety; as for other matters, Granny Ulan naturally favored Anning.
For over a decade, although Anning did not deliberately win over the people Kangxi had placed in Changchun Palace, she was skilled at using people. Her generous nature and her combination of kindness and severity earned her the trust and respect of the palace staff.
Without violating Emperor Kangxi's orders, they were all loyal to Anning.
Granny Wulan: "This servant will make the arrangements immediately."
Since learning about Kangxi's special circumstances, Anning has never considered trying to win over people like Granny Wulan. In her view, not trying to win them over doesn't necessarily mean they won't work.
If you employ people with strengths, there will be no one you cannot use; if you employ people with weaknesses, there will be no one you can use.
They were Kangxi's people, but they wouldn't endanger her life; on the contrary, they brought her unexpected benefits.
Anning and her son Yinyi made the arrangements in an orderly manner.
The other women in the harem who had sons were far from having an easy time; they were all busy trying to get a son, except for Consort Wang.
Consort Wang was formerly Consort Wang. She gave birth to the Fifteenth Prince, but the Fifteenth Prince was not particularly favored. He was sandwiched between the Fourteenth Prince, born to Consort De, and the Sixteenth Prince, born to Consort Anning. He was not particularly intelligent and had little presence among the princes.
She was not implicated in the matter of the deposed crown prince.
In the Qianqing Palace, Emperor Kangxi had aged considerably. He had deposed the crown prince, who was the culmination of his many years of effort, but the prince had gone astray.
Even though Emperor Kangxi loved his crown prince dearly, he knew that the empire could not be handed over to him. Otherwise, the prince would be a sinner and would have no face to face his ancestors in the future.
Liang Jiugong entered: "Your Majesty, Consort Rong requests an audience."
Emperor Kangxi waved his hand: "Let her go back."
Liang Jiugong went out and walked up to Consort Rong: "Your Majesty, the Emperor is handling state affairs. Please go back."
Consort Rong couldn't bear to hear such words; all she could think about was that her son was imprisoned and must be unable to eat or sleep properly.
The key issue is that her son had always followed the Crown Prince. How could she be at ease after the Crown Prince was deposed? Of all the concubines in the harem, only she came.
Liang Jiugong understood Kangxi best. He knew that although the crown prince had been deposed, Kangxi would not implicate too many of his sons. The reason he had his sons imprisoned was simply because he felt they were too ambitious. He wanted to put them in a place of peace and let them know that the throne was not so easy to fight for.
In addition, Kangxi was really angry. The crown prince was deposed, which was partly due to the crown prince's own actions, but more so because they had forced him to this point. Kangxi would not blame himself for his lack of checks and balances on the crown prince, but only blame his other sons for wearing down his crown prince.
So he wanted to vent his anger, so he confined them, but that was just to vent his anger; they would all be released eventually.
Consort Rong's face was full of sorrow, and her tone was pleading: "Eunuch Liang, I beg you to make an exception. I only want to see the Emperor..."
Seeing Consort Rong like this, Liang Jiugong felt bad too. To be honest, he was somewhat moved by Consort Rong's kind and loving heart.
But he had to obey Kangxi's orders.
However, a little reminder wouldn't hurt.
Liang Jiugong said, “Your Majesty, please go back. The Emperor will not be so ruthless as to kill his son. He is currently in a fit of anger. If Your Majesty goes in, it may backfire. It would be better to go back and prepare more food, clothing and other necessities to send to the Third Prince. Although the Emperor is angry with his son, he is still a loving father.”
Liang Jiugong's hint wasn't too subtle, and Consort Rong wasn't stupid; she understood.
Consort Rong: "Thank you, Eunuch Liang. I will return now. I will trouble you to take good care of the Emperor."
Liang Jiugong: "Your Majesty, please rest assured, it is my duty to take care of the Emperor."
After seeing Consort Rong off, Liang Jiugong returned to his study.
Emperor Kangxi: "Consort Rong has left."
Liang Jiugong: "Her Majesty has returned."
Kangxi knew that Liang Jiugong must have played a part in this, and he roughly knew what Liang Jiugong had said.
I couldn't help but sigh, "The third prince is already so grown up, but Consort Rong still pampers and protects him like a child. The third prince has a wonderful mother!"
To be honest, Emperor Kangxi was a little envious, but not much. It's rare for an emperor to feel such envy.
Liang Jiugong replied, "His Majesty has a kind and compassionate heart; the princes will understand in the future."
Kangxi remained silent.
