Chapter 178 Giant Shield Wall

Half of the archers were already prepared. With a roar from Lü Tu, the archers unleashed a volley of arrows, blocking the Wuhuan people's path.

A hint of surprise flashed in Ulm's sinister eyes. He had not informed anyone of his arrival, and he had only brought his trusted men. Why would a group of Wuchuan border troops be lying in ambush here?

He had no time to think. Faced with the onslaught of arrows, he had no way to block them. He could only rely on his powerful core strength to clamp his legs around the horse's belly and pull on the reins to move his warhorse sideways, blocking the incoming arrows for him.

They heard the thud of arrows piercing the flesh of warhorses. They had torches in their hands, while their opponents were completely hidden in darkness, making it impossible to see how many men they had.

He could only shout to his trusted men behind him, "Retreat!" Just as he was about to dismount, he heard that damned voice again from afar: "Shoot again!"

"You dog, I'll curse your ancestors..." Ulm's roar was abruptly cut short, as a second volley of arrows came, and his warhorse, riddled with arrows, collapsed in his direction, unable to bear the weight.

At this point, Ulm could only quickly dodge, otherwise, if he were to be crushed by the horse, it would be even more difficult for him to escape.

Taking advantage of the lull, Ulm rolled on the ground and hid behind a tree. He quickly scanned his surroundings and, by the light of the fire, discovered that a third of the hundred elite soldiers he had brought had been lost in the two volleys.

What worried him most was the higher mortality rate of his warhorses. Without his warhorses, even if he wasn't killed by arrows, he would eventually be caught up with.

But before he could run away, he heard that damned Yu dog's voice again: "My lord, the Wuhuan dog has fallen from its horse, shall we charge over?"

"Kill your mother's head! Shoot them hard, shoot them until they can't move!"

Lu Tu launched into a tirade against Nie Yun, believing that Nie Yun's individualistic heroism was the most unacceptable trait on the battlefield.

In true battlefield combat, the goal is to kill as many enemies as possible while minimizing one's own casualties.

Round after round of arrows rained down, blocking all escape routes for Ulm and his men. The screams of his confidants echoed in his ears, and for the first time, Ulm, the finest cavalryman in the desert, felt fear.

In his memory, the Wuchuan border army was the weakest of them all. In the past, they would lose their fighting power even if they saw so many of his cavalry, let alone counterattack.

He vaguely guessed the other party's identity—Lu Tu!

This bastard must have used such methods to harm many of their tribe's warriors before. Thinking of this, Ulm drew his scimitar and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Lu Tu, do you dare to fight me fairly?"

"You stray dog, what makes you think you can take me on one-on-one? Do you even have a brain? Keep shooting! Use plan two!"

What does the second plan mean? Ulm was not familiar with the Dayu language, but he had a vague feeling that it was definitely aimed at him.

Sure enough, the sound of rapid hoofbeats soon came from the ground. He looked around warily and saw two squads of Wuchuan cavalry on each side, flanking him from the forest.

Ulm knew that there was only one way to turn the tide: launch a preemptive attack on Lü Tu.

If they were to flee now, with no horses while Lü Tu had them, once they reached open ground, only death awaited them.

"Harba! Push up!"

With a roar from Ulm, a massive, imposing figure appeared, holding a huge iron shield that barely covered his upper body. If you got close, you could see that his feet were covered with a lot of iron chains, and if an arrow hit him, it would only produce a few sparks.

Harba raised his giant shield high, using himself as a shield wall. The Wuhuan cavalry, who had been suppressed and hiding around him, quickly emerged and hid behind Harba, moving towards Ulm.

Lu Tu couldn't see the situation clearly either, he could only hear the Wuhuan soldiers' screams cease and the clanging of metal against metal.

He shouted to the people behind him, "Light the torches and form ranks!"

Upon hearing Lü Tu's order, all but the archers, the remaining hundred or so spearmen, assembled into a formation and surrounded Lü Tu in the center.

"Big brother!"

"grown ups!"

The voices of Nie Yun and Liu Hong came from the left and right sides respectively. Lü Tu knew that they had surrounded the Wuhuan people and were waiting for his attack from the middle.

Even a lion uses its full strength to hunt a rabbit. Lü Tu waved his hand and shouted, "Kill!"

The 300 soldiers shouted in unison, "Kill!"

No sooner had the words been spoken than both cavalry and infantry launched a fierce attack on the Wuhuan people at the same time.

Nie Yun's cavalry squad took the lead, but as soon as they charged in, a scream rang out. In the dim light of the fire, they could only see a figure flying backward.

Immediately afterwards, a towering, humanoid iron tower, as large as a small mountain, appeared before everyone. Holding a giant shield, he charged towards Lü Tu fearlessly.

The dozens of spearmen in front of him were unable to confront him head-on, and many of them were knocked down, making him look like a human-shaped bison.

Not wanting his soldiers to suffer too many casualties, Lü Tu held his golden spear horizontally and shouted, "Attack from the side!" With that, he rushed forward, dodging the giant's savage charge, and thrust his spear into Harba's waist.

But the giant Harba did not fall as Lü Tu had expected. Instead, he grinned at him, grabbed the spear from Lü Tu's hand, and said in a deep voice to those behind him, "Uka! I've got him!"

Uka, in the Wuhuan language, means good brother, indicating that the enemy hidden in the shadows is not weak, and it is worth the giant's life to expose Lü Tu.

Immediately afterwards, more than a dozen figures jumped down from the trees not far away. To Lu Tu's surprise, there were four chainmail soldiers among them, and one wearing wolf-head armor.

Lu Tu, who was well aware of the Wuhuan people's system, knew that this wolf-head armor was extremely rare and that the other party was of extremely high status!

He had fought against the Wuhuan chainmail soldiers before, and even one of them was extremely difficult to deal with. Now, in addition to the monstrously powerful giant in front of him, there were five others, and even the other leather-armored soldiers were a very troublesome opponent.

Fortunately, Lu Tu had previously used continuous volleys to kill most of the Wuhuan cavalry; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable and the pressure would have been immense!

Lu Tu stared intently at the giant, then lunged forward. As he ran, he flicked his wrist, revealing a dagger hidden in his sleeve, and thrust it toward the giant's heart.

"You think you're worthy to capture me?"
