Chapter 174 An An and Lu Xiao's First Meeting

Jiangnan - Prince Jing's Mansion Warm Pavilion

"Crash—!" Kang Kang accidentally knocked down most of the "skyscraper" that An An had just built halfway.

"Ah! Kang Kang!" An An looked at the scattered building blocks with heartache.

Knowing he had caused trouble, Kang Kang pouted, his big eyes immediately filled with tears, and he snuggled up to An An with a pitiful expression: "Sister... Kang Kang didn't mean to... the tower... is gone..."

Huai Jin clapped his hands gleefully, "Collapse, collapse! Kang Kang is amazing! Kang Kang is amazing!" Huai Yu quickly pulled her younger brother back, "Jin'er, don't be silly, An'an will be sad."

Looking at her younger brother's pitiful little face and the mess on the floor, An'an sighed helplessly, reached out and pulled Kang Kang into her arms, patting his head like a little adult: "Okay, okay, it's not Kang Kang's fault. Sister will build an even stronger one! Kang Kang, Yu'er and Jin'er, help Sister find those big, square blocks, okay?"

"Okay!" Kang Kang immediately stopped crying and smiled, wiping away his tears, and eagerly started rummaging through a pile of blocks. Huai Yu also obediently helped. Huai Jin looked at her older brother and sister, and followed suit, clumsily picking up a block and handing it to An An.

The four little heads huddled together, temporarily forgetting the tension of their mother/aunt giving birth, and focused on rebuilding their "kingdom." As An'an built, she told her younger siblings stories about the small bridges and flowing water of Jiangnan that she had read in her father's books, trying her best to dispel the worries in her heart with her childlike words.

Just then, a baby's cry, louder and more vibrant than ever before, burst through the door like the first rays of dawn!

"Wow—wow—"

Immediately afterwards, another equally powerful cry rang out!

Wow—wow—wow!

The twins' cries rose and fell, filling the entire space!

The four children in the warm room stopped what they were doing instantly, all perking up their little ears. An'an's eyes suddenly lit up: "It's a little brother and sister! Mommy gave birth!"

Kang Kang jumped up and clapped his hands, shouting, "The little brother and sister are here! Kang Kang is a big brother now!"

Huaijin and Huaiyu clapped their hands and said, "We have a younger brother and sister now! It's so much fun!"

Outside, Xiao Chengjing's tense body jolted violently, and he almost stumbled to the door. Shen's father also stood up excitedly, his hands moving the prayer beads even faster.

The door opened, and two midwives, beaming with smiles, came out carrying two tiny babies wrapped in apricot-yellow and light blue swaddling clothes: "Congratulations, Your Highness! Congratulations, Your Highness! The Princess Consort has safely given birth to twins, a boy and a girl! Mother and children are both safe and sound!"

Overjoyed, Shen's mother wept tears of joy, but worried about her daughter's health, so she hurriedly went into the delivery room.

"Twins?!" Father Shen exclaimed with joy and surprise. "Thank goodness! Thank goodness!"

Xiao Chengjing, however, couldn't care less about the child; his voice was hoarse and urgent: "Where's Yuewei? How is she?"

"Her Highness the Princess Consort has fallen asleep from exhaustion, and everything is fine!" the nanny hurriedly said.

Xiao Chengjing then let out a long, silent sigh, as if a heavy burden had been lifted, and his tense shoulders instantly relaxed.

Only then did he turn his gaze to the two wrinkled little faces that were crying with their eyes closed. His eyes were filled with the ecstatic joy of finding them again, the lingering fear, and a heavy, double happiness and responsibility.

He reached out his finger and very carefully touched the warm cheek of the swaddled baby closest to him.

An'an, along with her three little ones, rushed out and squeezed next to the adults, standing on tiptoe to peer curiously.

"Daddy! Daddy! Which one is the younger brother? Which one is the younger sister?" An'an asked eagerly.

“The one crying loudly is the young master, and this…” The nanny smiled and handed the pink and blue swaddle closer, “is the young lady.”

Kang Kang tried to stand on tiptoe, looking at the baby in the swaddling clothes who was much smaller than him. His little brows furrowed, and he muttered softly, "Little sister...so small...so ugly..." His innocent words drew good-natured laughter from everyone.

Father Shen was overjoyed: "What's so ugly about it! All newborn babies look like this! They'll grow up plump and fair-skinned in a few days! This is an immense blessing for our Shen family and the Prince Jing's mansion!"

---

Several months later, spring was in full bloom in Jiangnan, with grass growing and orioles flying.

The area in front of Prince Jing's mansion was bustling with activity, even more so than usual. Several large carriages, bearing obvious signs of travel in the northern frontier, slowly came to a stop, escorted by guards.

The carriage curtain was lifted, and Lu Zheng, dressed in a black outfit, looking travel-worn but still energetic, jumped down first. He then turned around and carefully helped his wife, Luo Qingrou, out of the carriage.

Behind her, two chubby-faced five-year-old boys, dressed in matching little leather armor, jumped down like little tigers. They were the twins, Lu Xiao and Lu Qi.

The twins look almost identical, but you can tell them apart if you look closely. The older brother, Lu Xiao, has a calm gaze and a maturity beyond his years; the younger brother, Lu Qi, is lively and active, looking around curiously as soon as he got out of the car.

The last one to be carried down by the wet nurse was Lu Yao (Jiao Jiao), a two-year-old girl with delicate features. She shyly buried her face in the wet nurse's neck, only revealing her big, dark eyes as she curiously looked around at the unfamiliar environment.

"Brother Lu Zheng! Sister Qingrou!" Upon receiving the news, Shen Yuewei, supported by Xiao Chengjing, came out to greet them. She had recovered remarkably well after childbirth; her figure was fuller, making her even more graceful, and her face radiated genuine joy. An'an, holding the hand of Kang Kang, who could already run and jump, followed behind her parents, curiously watching her little friend from the north.

"Sister Yuewei!" Luo Qingrou hurried over and hugged Shen Yuewei tightly, her eyes slightly red. "I've missed you so much! You look even better than in the letter!" She released Shen Yuewei, her gaze immediately drawn to a pink and blue swaddled baby in Xiao Chengjing's arms. "Is this our little lady? Let me see!" She then looked at another apricot-yellow swaddled baby in the wet nurse's arms. "And a little boy! My goodness, twins, a dragon and a phoenix! Sister Yuewei, you are so blessed!"
