Yang Yajing felt her life was utterly worthless—single at 36; meager salary absolutely insufficient to cover her mother's medical expenses.
Her best friend not only stole the man she...
After thinking it over, Mrs. Xia decided to listen to Xia Changlong and called Yang Yajing.
Xia Changlong said that since Yang Yajing had anticipated Xia Junhu's actions, she should have already come up with a countermeasure.
Xia Changlong's guess was indeed correct.
After hearing Madam Xia's account of the whole incident, Yang Yajing smiled and said, "Go! But I'm not going!" when Madam Xia asked if she wanted to go.
"You're not going at all? Are we going or not?" Madam Xia was confused by this answer.
"It's not you, it's you going by yourself, but don't go to their venues."
"Huh? What? I'm getting more and more confused."
Yang Yajing asked Madam Xia to call Xia Changlong over and put him on speakerphone before telling them what to do next.
"Yang Yajing!" After hearing this, Xia Changlong sighed, "If I didn't know you were one of us, I would have to be on guard against someone like you at all times! Otherwise, I wouldn't even know how I died one day!"
"So, Boss Xia, you need to choose the right side and stick together as a team!" Yang Yajing said without any modesty.
Having set up the plan, the three began to act separately.
Xia Junhu arranged the meeting for three days later, which was not a weekend, but a Friday evening.
The Hilton Hotel in the city center was packed with people that day, and reporters crowded the hotel entrance.
Xia Junhu's event was scheduled for 6 p.m., and Jiang Jucai, Jiang Xuanxuan, and Wang Xiuzhen arrived early, just after 5:30 p.m.
The three of them acted like they were walking a red carpet, taking photos every few steps, completely unlike their previous embarrassing behavior when they were hiding from the media.
Jiang Jucai addressed Xia Changlong as "in-law" as if he were marrying off his daughter, Wang Xiuzhen warmly called Madam Xia "elder sister," and Jiang Xuanxuan shyly called Wang Xiuzhen "mother" and Madam Xia "mother."
This clearly demonstrates the authenticity of the family reunion banquet and the genuineness of the relationship between the two families.
Xia Junhu only came out to pick up the person when the media had finished making a big fuss. Jiang Xuanxuan called him "Uncle" and Xia Junhu called her "Niece" in a very friendly manner.
The Jiang family went inside, and the two families of the Xia family's two children arrived soon after, but it was past seven o'clock and Xia Changlong and his wife were still nowhere to be seen.
Some savvy media outlets had people watching the Huaxia Consortium. When they noticed that Xia Changlong hadn't come out of the company, they found out that he was meeting with a major client.
The receptionist, as if tattled, told the reporter who was trying to get information that this client had been waiting for two months to meet, and that their Chairman Xia was taking it very seriously!
How would the receptionist know these things? Even if she did, she wouldn't casually reveal confidential information.
This was personally instructed by their Chairman Xia to say this. Having been assigned such an "important" task, how could a mere receptionist like her not put on a good performance?
Hilton's reporters quickly learned that Xia Changlong probably wouldn't be attending.
But if Xia Changlong doesn't come, then there's still Madam Xia, isn't there? The Tao family's mother has been searching for her daughter for over twenty years, and now that she's found her, how could she not come?
After waiting for another half hour, all sorts of people entered the Hilton's entrance, but Mrs. Xia was nowhere to be seen.
Wang Xiuzhen and Jiang Xuanxuan must have been getting impatient, because they came out again.
After peering out the door for a while, I finally saw Mrs. Xia's car driving towards us.
Having struck a pose, the two planned to greet Mrs. Xia as soon as she came out, and to compliment her dress and her taste in clothing.
But when the car door opened, it was Yang Yajing who stepped out.
Yang Yajing deliberately avoided looking at Jiang Xuanxuan, and instead turned around and carefully held onto the car roof to let Madam Xia get out of the car.
Finally, they saw the main characters, but the two women couldn't bring themselves to say what they had rehearsed.
Because Mrs. Xia, who got out of the car, was dressed in a black work suit and a long black coat, she didn't look festive at all.
The reporters were taken aback by Mrs. Xia's attire. But they quickly realized that the important people had arrived and immediately swarmed around Mrs. Xia and Yang Yajing, making it impossible for them to pass.
"Mrs. Xia, you've arrived so late today. Does that mean you don't value today's banquet?" a reporter asked.
"So late? Don't you take this seriously?" Mrs. Xia asked, puzzled. "Manager Yang, why are there so many reporters here? Did you call them here to promote our company?"
Yang Yajing shook her head.
"Why did they say I was late? What time is it?" Mrs. Xia asked again.
"It's 7:30, and we agreed to meet at 8:00. We're early!" Yang Yajing glanced at her watch and smiled.
"Eight o'clock?" a reporter asked, puzzled. "Isn't it six o'clock?"
"Does this reporter know my schedule well? Do you think I wouldn't know if I made an appointment at eight or six?" Mrs. Xia said with a very formulaic expression.
"But the Jiang family has already arrived, and the Xia family is almost all here too." The reporter was now confused. They had arranged to meet at 8 o'clock, so was it really necessary to arrive at 5:30?
"The Jiang family? What Jiang family?" Madam Xia still pretended to be confused. "Manager Yang, do we have any business partners with the surname Jiang?"
Yang Yajing shook her head again, almost giving Madam Xia a thumbs up in her heart. Her ability to dodge the question was truly brilliant.
The reporters looked at each other, momentarily forgetting what to ask next.
Fortunately, Wang Xiuzhen's voice rang out from outside the "encirclement": "Make way, make way!"
Upon hearing this, the reporters made way, and Mrs. Xia looked up and saw Wang Xiuzhen and Jiang Xuanxuan walking towards them.
"Sister, you've arrived! I've been waiting for you for so long!" Wang Xiuzhen said with a fawning smile.
"Madame Chiang is here too!" Madam Xia's words immediately created a social distance between Wang Xiuzhen and Madam Chiang. "What a coincidence!"
