Rebirth in 90s: Rip Apart the Sacrificial Pawn Script

Yang Yajing felt her life was utterly worthless—single at 36; meager salary absolutely insufficient to cover her mother's medical expenses.

Her best friend not only stole the man she...

Chapter 166 Conflicting Opinions

Now that the words have been spoken, everyone can sense a different meaning in them.

Although Wang Xiuzhen found it strange, she still extended a very warm invitation to Madam Xia.

“Saying goodbye? It’s just a few steps, let’s go up together? We’ve saved the best seat for you, sister!” Wang Xiuzhen said with a beaming smile.

"Sister Tao, is it inconvenient to have outsiders here today?" Yang Yajing asked Madam Xia.

"Who's the outsider? You're the outsider! What do you mean by 'outsider'?!" Wang Xiuzhen was never polite to Yang Yajing. "I'm still Jiang Xuanxuan's adoptive mother!"

"Adoptive mother? Even if she's your biological mother, it won't work! Aren't all people outside the company outsiders?" Yang Yajing retorted and corrected.

"Company? What company?" Wang Xiuzhen was confused.

Mrs. Xia spoke up, seemingly unwilling to delay any longer: "Today is a celebration for the company's partners and employees, and it is indeed not appropriate for outsiders to listen in. I'm sorry."

The two "outsiders" who were seriously injured made the reporters sigh.

When Yang Yajing used the word "outsider," they were just watching the show. But now that they were about to recognize each other as relatives, Madam Xia actually called them outsiders as well.

Should they acknowledge this kinship or not? If not, what's the point of holding this banquet? If they do acknowledge it, judging from their tone, will the Jiang family not get away with it?

"Company celebration party? Wait a minute, isn't this supposed to be a family reunion banquet?" Wang Xiuzhen looked at Jiang Xuanxuan, then at Madam Xia.

"A family recognition banquet? What kind of family recognition?" Madam Xia looked bewildered.

“Our Xuanxuan?” After saying that, Wang Xiuzhen pulled Jiang Xuanxuan forward.

"How come I didn't know I was supposed to be recognizing my relatives? Who called it? Chang Long didn't mention it either?"

"Huh? Sister didn't know? But Mr. Xia said it was arranged a few days ago!"

"Mr. Xia? Chang Long?"

"No, no, no! It's Mr. Xia Junhu."

"Oh! Uncle!" Madam Xia seemed to recall something. "He did mention having a family dinner, but I didn't agree! He hasn't invited our family to dinner in decades. I was wondering if it was a trap!"

"A trap?" Wang Xiuzhen shook her head. "How could it be a trap? It's just that Mr. Xia is very hospitable and spontaneously organized a family reunion banquet!"

Madam Xia's expression suddenly turned sour.

Yang Yajing knew it was her turn to act: "What's wrong? Sister Tao, why do you look so pale? Are you feeling unwell?"

“I’m worried about Chang Long,” Madam Xia said first, then turned to Wang Xiuzhen. “Madam Jiang, are you not very clear about the situation of our Xia family? If not, you can ask the reporters present.”

Well, the reporters all perked up their ears. Although the Xia family had never stopped the media from discussing the Xia family's situation, they had never openly discussed those power struggles among wealthy families.

Mrs. Xia is making no attempt to hide these words from the media. Could it be that there's some interesting drama about to unfold?

"Situation?" Wang Xiuzhen didn't understand; she never cared about what happened in the business world.

"Heh! The Xia family is full of wolves and tigers." Madam Xia said with disdain. "A family recognition banquet? Such a private matter of my family should be decided and handled by my uncle on his own?"

Before Wang Xiuzhen could say anything, Madam Xia continued, "I've been a housewife for so many years, and I finally have something to do again, but he just had to choose the time when my private company is celebrating its success to hold this family reunion banquet? Is he planning to ruin even my business?"

"Sister Tao, don't get excited. Maybe it's just a coincidence?" Yang Yajing patted Madam Xia's back.

"Coincidence? Is the next coincidence that he'll have to take charge of Chang Long's company as well? Is today's incident setting a precedent so he'll have an excuse to seize power in the future?"

“This…” Wang Xiuzhen didn’t know how to respond.

"I know that Mrs. Jiang's husband and my uncle have private business dealings and a close relationship." Mrs. Xia said this intentionally for the reporters to hear. "So if my uncle wants to use the Jiang family to harm Chang Long again, is the Jiang family going to be an accomplice?"

“How could the Jiang family possibly harm Chairman Xia?” Jiang Xuanxuan shook her head.

“That’s not necessarily true! The Jiang family is in such a mess right now, surrounded by crises. My uncle is barely able to protect himself, so he’s definitely thinking of dragging Changlong down with him!” Madam Xia said firmly.

Jiang Xuanxuan was about to say something when she saw Madam Xia glance at her watch and say to Yang Yajing, "We're almost late! Let's hurry up! It wouldn't be good if our business partners were unhappy!"

"Then...that family reunion banquet?" Yang Yajing pointed at Jiang Xuanxuan.

"Whoever wants to organize a family reunion can do it themselves. It's not my event. Do I need outsiders to make decisions for me if I want to reunite with relatives?" Madam Xia rolled her eyes. "I'm not going! I'm leaving! Business is more important!"

After saying that, she strode away and entered the Hilton without looking back.

All the reporters were puzzled; if they had something wrong with their minds, they certainly wouldn't hold back the question:

"Madam Jiang, so Madam Xia's meaning is whether or not she should acknowledge this marriage?"

"Miss Jiang, does Madam Xia mean that she doesn't acknowledge you as her daughter?"

"Madam Jiang, Madam Xia said that important matters are important. Does that mean that recognizing relatives is not important?"

"Madam Chiang, will this situation endanger the Chiang family?"

"Madam Jiang, is Mr. Jiang really colluding with Xia Junhu to harm the current president of Huaxia Group?"

"Madam Chiang, isn't the cooperation between the Chiang family and Xia Junhu not, as Mr. Chiang claims, a cooperation with the Xia family, but rather a private transaction with Xia Junhu?"

...

The two women were completely unable to answer the series of questions.

Unlike their previous interviews where they answered every question, they simply shook their heads repeatedly, saying they didn't know and that it might be a misunderstanding.

They said it was just a coincidence that their schedules clashed, not that they didn't acknowledge the gene matching results, and so on.
