Chapter Sixty-Six: The Four Great Families (2/2)

Lin Jin said sarcastically, "Good news doesn't travel far, but bad news travels fast!"

Then she added, "I never thought she could marry into a wealthy family." Li Yanjun chimed in, "You're absolutely right! You know, the eldest son of the Yu family really has terrible taste!"

Upon hearing the keyword "Yu family," Lin Jin excitedly asked, "That 'Yu' family! I've met Grandpa Yu's son and daughter-in-law before!"

Upon hearing this, Li Yanjun laughed and said, "Hey! You see, I should have told you about the big families and some hidden clans in Beijing a long time ago!"

Lin Jin had actually done some research on Beijing after arriving. Among the prominent families she knew of was the Wu family, which had existed since the early days of China and held a very important position domestically. There was also the Lin family; although she herself bore the surname Lin, this Lin was not the same as the Lin family in the traditional Chinese sense—the latter being a business tycoon. As for the hidden families, she had only vaguely heard of them.

Li Yanjun continued, "There are four major families in Beijing: the Wu family, the Lin family, the Liu family, and the Gong family. Among them, the Wu family wields considerable political power, and there are also some hidden aristocratic families. They act discreetly, but their strength should not be underestimated. As far as I know, there are only the Yu family and the Ouyang family. This Yu family and the old man Yu's family you met don't share the same surname. That old man Yu's family used to be quite good, but unfortunately, the family was not united, and the internal strife was too fierce. Later on, they became increasingly weak, and they basically all went abroad!"

This Yu is the Yu in Yu'er! "Which Yu?" Lin Jin asked, looking bewildered. Li Yanjun didn't know how to explain the character either. Suddenly, an idea struck her. As if remembering something, she quickly ran into her son's room to get paper and pen, and then swiftly wrote the character down on the paper.

Lin Jin looked closely, and when she saw the character "Yu" on the paper, she suddenly realized, "Oh, it's the 'Yu' in 'Yu Bian'!"

However, Li Yanjun clearly did not know who Yu Bian was. She simply nodded mechanically and then said, "And Xiao Hong, she is the daughter-in-law of the eldest son of the second branch of the Yu family!"

Upon hearing these words, it was as if a lightning bolt had struck Lin Jin's mind, instantly disrupting her train of thought. Her eyes widened in astonishment, and she inwardly regretted her foolishness.

Li Yanjun noticed Lin Jin's unusual behavior and asked with concern, "Xiao Jin, what's wrong? Did the Yu family cause you any trouble?" Lin Jin quickly replied, "No! My classmates are all very nice!"

Then, turning her gaze to Li Yanjun, she smiled and said, "Godmother, thank you so much for speaking up for me today! If it weren't for you, I probably wouldn't know which families I might have offended!"

Li Yanjun gently patted Lin Jin's hand and comforted her, "Silly child, there's no need to thank me. Although our Qin family's power may not be as great as those other families, my daughter is not one to be bullied!"

She paused briefly, then said earnestly, "I know you're a kind-hearted child and wouldn't bully others, but you must remember, you must never let anyone bully you, understand? No matter what happens, your godmother and godfather will always be there to support you!"

Hearing Li Yanjun's words, Lin Jin felt a warm current welling up inside her. Although she herself wasn't easily bullied, having someone like her who could stand up for her felt truly wonderful!

Lin Jin glanced at her watch; it was already 3 PM. She quickly stood up and said, "Godmother, I have some things to do this afternoon, so I'll head back now!" Li Yanjun didn't try to stop her. The young girl was at a playful age, and it was already a blessing that she could come and have a meal with her once a week! Li Yanjun quickly stood up as well and said, "Little Jin, wait a minute. I saw a pair of really beautiful leather shoes at the department store last time. They'd definitely fit you perfectly, so I bought them! Take them home!"
