Because her son came to demand money and she didn't have any to give, Meng Shuyun was forced to death.
From disappointment, regret, and pain, Meng Shuyun awoke from a dream and was rebor...
Seeing this, Meng Shuyun sighed inwardly and took the two sisters to buy soda.
"Grandma, I don't want soda anymore, I want milk," Xiaoli said.
"I don't want soda either, I want bread," Xiaojuan added.
Meng Shuyun always doted on her granddaughter, and upon hearing this, she readily paid the money.
The two sisters bought bread and milk, but carefully put them in their bags without eating them.
Meng Shuyun found it strange, and only after asking did she realize that it was saved for that little boy.
She couldn't help but sigh again, pinched her brow, and said, "If we don't eat the bread and milk, they'll spoil by tomorrow, and we won't be able to give them away."
The two sisters discussed it in front of Meng Shuyun and decided to send it to the little boy right away.
Meng Shuyun was pulled along by the two sisters and couldn't refuse even if she wanted to.
Fortunately, they had bicycles, and the two sisters led the way, arriving in about ten minutes.
The little boy and his grandmother lived behind the school. The two sisters pointed to the cowshed not far away and shouted, "Grandma, it's over there!"
Before they even got close, they heard a woman's shrill shouts and curses, accompanied by the sound of a rattan cane being whipped.
"You little beast, you're getting bolder and bolder! You dare to steal my money! This old woman picked you up only to come and collect a debt! I'll beat you to death today. I kindly gave you food and raised you all these years, and you've turned out to be an ungrateful wretch!"
As the sun began to set, a dusky yellow hue appeared on the horizon.
Just then, a dull "bang" was heard, and a small black figure was kicked out of the dilapidated cowshed, like a bag of discarded junk, and thrown heavily onto the dusty ground.
Immediately afterwards, a burly woman strode out of the cowshed, holding a willow branch in her hand.
Her face was gloomy, her eyes wide open, her hands on her hips, glaring down at the little boy on the ground with a look that seemed to spit fire.
“Tell me! Will you dare steal my money again? If you don’t, I’ll beat you to death today! Even if it goes to the police, I’ll be in the right. You thief, the police will definitely arrest you first!” Zhao Hui shouted, her voice shrill.
Xiao Jun lay prone on the ground, his hands supporting him, his knuckles white from the effort. He gritted his teeth and struggled to get up, his young face covered in dust and a trace of blood at the corner of his mouth.
His eyes were as fierce as a wolf cub in the wilderness, staring straight at the woman, his small body exuding an aura of stubbornness and defiance.
"I didn't steal it, the money was borrowed! It was you who robbed me!" he shouted in a hoarse voice, his tone resolute.
The villagers, who had just finished their farm work, gathered around, their faces filled with surprise and concern.
"Xiao Jun, just apologize to your aunt. If you keep being so stubborn, you'll only suffer more," the old man said earnestly, leaning on his cane.
"Zhao Hui, don't go too far! Look at this child, you've abused him so badly, he's almost unrecognizable! Aren't you afraid of retribution?" A slightly plump middle-aged woman accused her angrily.
“Your Zhao family is dirt poor, how could you possibly have twenty yuan in savings? Old Mrs. Zhao is almost dying, and you won’t take her to see a doctor, but instead you’re beating the child here, you have no conscience!” someone in the crowd shouted.
Upon hearing this, Zhao Hui's wife's eyes widened even more. She pointed the willow branch in her hand at Xiao Jun on the ground and shouted at the top of her lungs, "I'm already being kind by giving him a bite to eat! If you're so kind and can't stand it, then take him home and raise him. I won't complain at all!"
My stepmother just accidentally fell down. She's not some pampered city person. She can just rub it in and it'll be fine. Why bother seeing a doctor? Everyone says my family is poor. Where would we get the money for medical treatment?
"If any of you are nosy and have some spare cash, take her to see it!"
Upon hearing this, Xiao Jun's eyes instantly turned red as if they were about to bleed. He roared and charged at Zhao Hui like an angry calf.
But Zhao Hui was burly, and with just a light kick, she sent Xiao Jun flying.
Zhao Hui snorted coldly and said disdainfully, "You little beast, you dare to fight back?"
The onlookers shook their heads, knowing that the Zhao family was always restless, with sounds of fighting and cursing frequently heard.
Standing in the crowd, Meng Shuyun watched this scene with a pang of pain in her heart. She felt that this child was not her own, and that in this family, he was like a roadside weed, unloved and uncared for.
She turned and rode away on her bicycle. Xiaoli and Xiaojuan, sitting on the back, were frantic with worry. They shook the bicycle and cried out in trembling voices:
"Grandma, Grandma, hurry back, or Xiaojun will be beaten to death! Waaah... He's so pitiful, all the money we lent him has been stolen..."
While pedaling hard on her bicycle, Meng Shuyun patiently explained, "Grandma is all alone, and she has to take care of you two little ones. What if that woman hurts you?"
"We can't act impulsively when faced with problems. Let's go to the Women's Federation now and ask for help. We'll tell them everything we've seen, and someone will definitely help him."
Meng Shuyun pedaled her bicycle with all her might, the wheels kicking up a trail of dust as she sped toward the Women's Federation.
Upon arriving at the Women's Federation, Meng Shuyun, panting, recounted in detail the whole story of Zhao Hui's abuse of the elderly and children.
Upon hearing this, the women's director turned red with anger. She clenched her fists, slammed them on the table, and shouted, "This is outrageous! Is there no law anymore?!"
Having said that, he immediately took two female comrades and hurried towards the Zhao family.
