Because her son came to demand money and she didn't have any to give, Meng Shuyun was forced to death.
From disappointment, regret, and pain, Meng Shuyun awoke from a dream and was rebor...
"Never mind them, let's pack up and head to the grain station. I'll take you out for a walk to clear your head."
Meng Shuyun looked at her daughter and said gently, "It's not a good idea to always stay cooped up in the house."
Su Xiuju nodded, put on a mask and hat, covering most of her face.
"Mom, this mask is really useful, it's not stuffy at all."
Meng Shuyun filled a kettle with water, picked up a small cloth bag, and looked at her daughter's beautiful almond-shaped eyes, her eyes full of smiles.
My daughter is so beautiful, you can't find many as beautiful as her in the surrounding area.
Even with a mask on, her beauty is still undeniable.
She thought to herself that this was a perfect opportunity to take her daughter to the train station and have her be her personal advertisement.
The mother and daughter set off for the grain station, only to find out that the grain had already been collected and there was no surplus.
The village has so much food left that it's almost not enough to feed itself.
This surprised Meng Shuyun. She went to the grain station in the next village, but the answer she received was that the grain had already been taken and there was no extra grain.
The mother and daughter walked through two neighboring villages. The gatekeeper of the grain station sat in the guard booth, looking impatient, and waved them away.
"Go, go, we don't even have enough for ourselves, we don't have any extra food for you, hurry up and leave, don't block the way here."
Meng Shuyun tried to reason with them, but the other party was rude and refused to let her in, leaving no room for negotiation.
Just then, a bicycle stopped beside the mother and daughter.
A man in his thirties, with a buzz cut, wearing black-rimmed glasses and a white shirt, couldn't hide the smugness of a petty person who had achieved success despite his intellectual attire.
The other person glanced curiously in Meng Shuyun's direction, saw the loose cigarettes in her hand, and gave a mocking laugh.
"Auntie, how can you ask someone for a favor like this? Is this presentable?" As he spoke, he took out a whole bag of cigarettes from his pocket and handed it to the gatekeeper.
"Sir, I'd like to talk to the station manager about purchasing grain. Could you please make an exception for me?"
The gatekeeper saw the whole pack of cigarettes, his eyes crinkled with a smile, and without any hesitation, he put it in his pocket. Then he said, "Alright, see if the stationmaster is in his office. Go up to the second floor."
After receiving permission, Zhang Youwang glanced defiantly at Meng Shuyun, leaned on his bicycle, and said confidently, "You're here to help Su Xiulan collect grain, aren't you?"
"It's really tough on her, being a heavily pregnant woman, having to come out to collect grain. If something unexpected happens, it would be a huge loss."
"You should also try to persuade her. She might as well stay home and have the baby. She doesn't need to worry about the grain harvest." After saying this, Zhang Youwang pushed the cart inside with a big laugh.
Meng Shuyun stared at the young man in front of her without saying a word.
It seems he has already visited all the grain stations in the surrounding villages, and his smug expression clearly indicates that he is trying to steal grain from Xiulan.
Su Xiuju said worriedly, "Mother, what are we going to do? We haven't harvested a single grain of grain today, and I guess Second Sister is also..."
Although this year's autumn harvest was not a bumper one, every household had surplus grain, so there was no shortage of food.
Under the blazing sun, the mother and daughter left the grain station and found a large tree to cool off.
Su Xiuju said, "Mother, the grain has been almost all harvested. I don't know how my second sister is doing."
She was only seventeen or eighteen years old. She walked all morning and didn't get a single grain of food. She felt extremely tired.
Her second sister is heavily pregnant; who knows what would happen if she also came out to harvest grain?
Meng Shuyun remained calm and composed. She took out a water bottle from her cloth bag, poured out some milk, and handed it to Su Xiuju, gesturing for her to drink.
After harvesting the grain, she made sure he could only watch, without any vehicles.
Su Xiuju looked at the enamel mug with some surprise, not expecting her mother to take milk out with her. Her face flushed slightly.
"Mom, I don't need to drink this, you drink it."
Seeing that her mother was drinking cold water, she felt both warm and a little guilty. It was such a precious thing; it would be a waste for her to drink it herself. It would be better to give it to her second sister, who was pregnant; this was the best thing for her.
Meng Shuyun knew perfectly well what she was thinking; it was written all over her face.
"You're so skinny you're practically a stick. If you don't get some nutrition, a gust of wind could blow you away. Drink up, we're going to the train station in a bit."
Su Xiuju obediently nodded and finished drinking, and then the mother and daughter headed to the train station.
It was lunchtime, and the smell of sweat mixed with the smell of fast food and snacks created a cacophony of odors that was hard to describe.
Now it's much more open, and the management isn't strict. Many small vendors carry their wares out to sell, offering everything from seasonal fruits and agricultural products to melon seeds and peanuts.
When they arrived at a crowded place, Su Xiuju became a little nervous, her pale face hidden behind her mask.
She nervously tugged at Meng Shuyun's sleeve and whispered, "Mother..."
Knowing that Su Xiuju was scared, Meng Shuyun took a handful of milk candies from her pocket and put them in her pocket, then found a relatively quiet place.
"Just sit here and wait until you eat your third piece of candy, then your mother will be back."
Hearing her mother's tone of voice as she coaxed the child, Su Xiuju lowered her head somewhat embarrassed.
Meng Shuyun walked through the train station hall with her bag on her back, her gaze falling on a middle-aged woman who kept covering her nose.
She stepped forward and asked in a friendly manner, "Hello, would you like to see a mask? It can block out odors, isn't stuffy, can be reused, is small, breathable, and convenient."
The woman looked interested, and Meng Shuyun opened her cloth bag to show off the face mask she had made.
