Rebirth in the 80s: Mrs. Li Is Still Setting Rules

In her previous life, old Mrs. Li wished she could pluck out her heart and liver to make soup for her children, yet in her old age, she faced indifference and evasion. Her children all kept their d...

Chapter 3 Playing with grandchildren starts early

Who would have thought that Li Guifang gave birth to three sons and two daughters, but the only one who donated blood to her in the end was her third daughter-in-law, whom she had always looked down upon.

In her previous life, when she heard the third brother say that he wanted to marry a country girl, she threw the enamel cup on the threshold.

In those years, she always glanced at her third daughter-in-law's rough fingers from the corner of her eyes - but pretended not to see these hands, which took on all the housework inside and outside;

She complained to everyone about her grandchildren's rural household registration - but she never mentioned the bags of dried sweet potatoes that her in-laws brought back during the famine years;

She gave gold rings to all her other daughters-in-law - but she "forgot" the calloused hands of her third daughter-in-law.

In her later years, Li Guifang saw things clearly, but prejudice was like a blunt knife that had been bent for so many years. Even if she apologized with tears, it would be meaningless!

Wu Xiaomei recently helped people knit socks in a cotton spinning factory, earning 20 cents per pair.

Although the income from this job is meager, it can help supplement the family income.

Because she is busy with work, she has no time to take care of the children. Now it is summer vacation, and the children are sent back to her parents' home for her parents to help take care of them.

Li Guifang stood by the old-fashioned sink, rubbing her hands on a rough towel.

The sink was made of cement, and the edges had been worn smooth. She washed carefully.

At this moment, the sound of brisk footsteps broke the silence. Before Li Guifang could turn around, she felt a pair of small hands tightly hugging her wrists.

She looked down and saw that it was her fifth daughter, Li Mingli.

Li Mingli was wearing a washed-out blue school uniform. Her hair was tied into two small braids with blue hairbands on the ends, making her look particularly lively.

"Mom, Mom!" Li Mingli's voice was as clear as a bell. She tilted her head back, her eyes gleaming with excitement.

"Mom, why are you back so early today? I haven't had dinner with you in a long time!"

Li Guifang smiled slightly, quickly washed her hands, and patted Li Mingli's hand that was hugging her.

Li Mingli didn't care either. She kept clinging to Li Guifang and chattering non-stop.

Li Guifang only responded a few times when she was talking excitedly.

Looking at my little daughter who still relies on me wholeheartedly, my heart feels warm.

She returned home, turned around, and called to the kitchen, "Xiaomei, set the table."

When Li Xiaomei heard her mother-in-law's shout, she hurried out of the kitchen with chopsticks and a bowl in her hand.

She deftly set the table, scooped out steaming hot food from the pot and placed it on the table.

As soon as he finished speaking, his third son Li Minghua also came back.

Li Minghua walked into the house with a tool bag on his back, looking tired. Seeing that the meal was ready, he breathed a sigh of relief, put the tool bag in the corner, and walked towards the faucet in the yard.

While rolling up his sleeves, he said, "I'm so tired today. There's so much work to do at the factory."

After Li Mingyu entered the room, he saw Li Mingli still excitedly talking about school.

I couldn't help but laugh: "Xiao Li, you've been making a fuss all day, can you pass the exam this year?"

Li Mingli raised her head and waved her fist at Li Mingyu: "Don't worry, just wait and see, there will be another college student in the family!"

The brother and sister made a fuss for a while before sitting down to eat.

Li Guifang felt a little relieved as she watched her family sitting around the dinner table one after another.

Although life is tight, the family can sit together for meals and there is hope for the future.

She picked up the chopsticks, picked up a piece of meat, and handed it to Wu Xiaomei: "Eat it quickly, don't just focus on eating."

Xiaomei took the meat from her mother-in-law with great trepidation and was so moved that she lowered her head and wiped away her tears.

Li Mingyu flatteringly picked up another piece of pickled radish and chewed it with a crunching sound. He said, "Mom, this radish is so delicious. Your cooking skills are still so good."

Seeing his lackey-like appearance, Li Guifang couldn't help but sneer at him, "Then eat a few more radishes. You can't taste the meat anyway, so don't waste the meat your father grabbed early in the morning."

When Li Jianghai heard his wife @ him, he straightened his back a little.

"Thank you for your hard work, Mom and Dad." Li Minghua flattered them at the right time.

After hearing this, Li Guifang felt warm in her heart.

She looked at the family, all of them were well-organized and the children were not deformed, and she felt relieved.

Li Guifang turned around and said to Wu Xiaomei: "Xiaomei, your job is too hard. You are so busy all day long that you can't even take care of your children.

Pick a time to go back to your parents' home and bring the child back. I'll take care of him for you. It's August now, and there's a lot going on in the village. Don't bother your in-laws all the time."

When Wu Xiaomei heard the first half of the sentence, she felt uneasy. Then she heard her mother-in-law say that she would take care of the child for her, and it was also for her parents' sake.

I was so moved that I burst into tears. "Thank you, Mom. I just want to earn more money when I can. If I don't have work tomorrow, I will go and bring the child back."

After saying that, he hurried to clear the dishes on the table, and Li Guifang sat down on a stool in the main room.

Looking at Wu Xiaomei's busy figure, I felt a little uncomfortable.

She knew that the third brother's family was under the greatest pressure, and she didn't know what to say.

Just after dinner, Li Guifang and her daughter were helping Wu Xiaomei sew socks in the main room.

After a while, Li Mingyuan and his family came in just as the digestion clock set after dinner!

The two grandsons ran in and clapped their hands affectionately, calling their grandmother all the time, which made Li Guifang feel at ease.

When these little brats grow up a bit, they'll call me "Grandma" in a lukewarm way. Now is the time to satisfy your grandparents' cravings while you can still smear your mouths with malted milk.

Li Guifang hugged her grandson tightly, as if he were holding a retirement savings account. She was putting enough money in it now, so that when his legs and feet became more unsteady, he could probably use it to support him.
