University student Qin Xiaoyu died with deep regrets, betrayed by a scumbag. Reborn, she finds herself in the body of a 25-year-old young widow with depression and two children, living in the 1980s...
Qin Xiaoyu turned around to organize her drawings and stopped talking.
"You drew this? You're quite capable, you can catch up on homework and you can even draw." Grandma Hanhan rarely praised her like this. Qin Xiaoyu chuckled to herself, thinking to herself, I can even help you with your family feuds, why don't you praise me?
"Well, you know, you've made such a mess of things. How am I supposed to take care of Madam? What if I don't do a good job?" Grandma Hanhan's words were always so awkward. It was something she should be thanking Qin Xiaoyu for, but she made it sound like Qin Xiaoyu owed her something.
"That's easy. Just use whatever soft, worn-out fabric you have. Your wife likes sweets, so add a little sugar now and then, but not too much. And don't make sweet things every day, about twice a week. As for clothes, find some soft fabric and make her a couple of new shirts." Qin Xiaoyu was too lazy to play games with her anymore and directly shared her experience. "Also, invite your wife over when you're watching TV and let her choose the channel. Even if she says she doesn't want to watch, force her to watch. Keep her company and talk to her, so she doesn't feel lonely. If you do all these things, you'll be the best wife in this dorm."
"That's it?" Grandma Hanhan was a little skeptical.
"That's it. Remember all of these points. Don't make a single mistake. If you do, I can't help you anymore." Qin Xiaoyu still managed to scare her a little.
"I'll trust you this once. If Madam isn't satisfied, she can hold you accountable." Grandma Hanhan walked out hesitantly, but stopped halfway and asked in confusion, "What happened yesterday was clearly your fault, so why was your aunt punished?"
"What did I do wrong? If I hadn't stood up for myself, she would have thrown my son and daughter away!" Qin Xiaoyu had intended not to bring up the past, but Grandma Hanhan's words ignited her anger. She had done such a big thing and was now caught in the middle.
After hearing what her aunt had done, Grandma Hanhan turned pale with anger and said bitterly, "That's outrageous! What have we done to offend her? She can't even tolerate one of our children!"
Qin Xiaoyu thought to herself, "Can you really tolerate this?" Then she thought again, "Forget it, we're on the same side now, so let's not dwell on the past."
Grandma Hanhan came out of Qin Xiaoyu's house and saw Tang Hu using willow branches to pull coal in the middle of the yard. He had scattered a perfectly good pile of coal all over the ground, and everyone who stepped on it got black.
Looking at his face and body, which were covered in soot, he looked like a beggar compared to Hanhan next to him. The difference in their appearance was obvious, and Hanhan's grandmother couldn't stand him anymore.
"You only know how to play instead of going to school. How can you play your way into college? No wonder everyone looks down on you. You're a good-for-nothing."
The eldest sister-in-law was shocked to hear her mother-in-law scolding her son while she was inside the house, so she hurriedly came out to see what was happening.
"Mom, what's wrong? They have the morning off, why are you yelling at him? He didn't do anything to you."
"I can't even scold my own grandson? You can't raise good children, you traitors, you help outsiders to punish your own family members, your hearts are rotten to the core!" Grandma Hanhan was blaming her sister-in-law for Tang Hu's actions. She and her aunt didn't get along in the first place, and now that her daughter-in-law and grandson were siding with her aunt, of course she was angry.
The eldest sister-in-law was inexplicably scolded and felt that today's events were strange, so she quickly rode her bicycle out to her aunt's house to report the news.
The old lady's family home wasn't far away, just two streets away. She said she was recuperating, but apart from the scratches on her face and hands, she was full of energy, racking her brains about how to get back.
Her brother and sister-in-law were no saints either, and they kept giving their sister advice.
When the eldest sister-in-law came over and told her about the division of the family property, the eldest sister-in-law exploded.
"They think we have no one left to rely on! We've been treated like slaves by the Tang family for over thirty years, and they just kick us out like that? No way! Let's go find out what happened!"
The old woman knew the family was going to be divided, but she didn't know she would be leaving with nothing. She was stunned when she heard this, and only then did she realize she'd fallen for the mistress's trap—to force her out so she could make her move. She couldn't believe she'd endured so many years only to be outsmarted by an old woman. Then she thought about it again, and realized the old woman probably had a lot of grudges against her. If she really brought them up, her husband probably wouldn't forgive her either. She'd better save face, or she'd never be able to go back.
The aunt advised her brother and sister-in-law not to cause trouble and to suppress the matter first. The sister-in-law, who was trying to be compliant, failed to stir up any trouble and went home dejectedly.
Seeing that it was still early, Qin Xiaoyu thought she would go to Master Wang's place to say hello. It wouldn't be good to not show up, and she also wanted to thank him for the twenty yuan.
On the way, she bought a bunch of grapes, but when she arrived at Mr. Wang's house, she found something was wrong; the door was tightly shut. After knocking for a long time, a neighbor finally came out and told her that something had happened at Mr. Wang's house, and he hadn't opened the door for two days.
Qin Xiaoyu was a little disappointed. Was this twenty yuan a breakup fee? They just didn't say it outright, wanting her to quit on her own? But they couldn't just close the door like that.
She returned home in confusion, only to see Tang Wenwen rushing out of the main house. Tang Wenwen made a face at Qin Xiaoyu, then put her arm around her shoulder and led her inside.
"Second sister-in-law, you're really amazing. I've heard all about it. No one has been able to beat Auntie all these years, but you took her down in one fell swoop."
"Don't praise me. Just take care of your mother. I've taught her how to do it. Whether she listens or not is her business."
"Don't worry about that. My mom listens to you now. As soon as I got home, she kept talking to me for ages and even praised you."
"Ouch!" Qin Xiaoyu cried out in pain as Tang Wenwen twisted her waist.
"You got a bruise? Let me see?" Tang Wenwen hurriedly closed the door, lifted Qin Xiaoyu's clothes to look, and saw a bruise on her lower back.
Qin Xiaoyu felt the pain yesterday, but she couldn't see it herself, and she didn't dare let Hanhan see it, for fear of scaring him.
Hearing Wenwen say that, she felt even more pain.
"Come on, I'll take you to the hospital. My classmate works there." Tang Wenwen pulled Qin Xiaoyu out the door without further ado. As they entered the military hospital, Qin Xiaoyu remembered the time she brought her younger sister to see a doctor, and a wave of gloom washed over her.
