University student Qin Xiaoyu died with deep regrets, betrayed by a scumbag. Reborn, she finds herself in the body of a 25-year-old young widow with depression and two children, living in the 1980s...
It was visiting hours, but the rules were strict, and everyone had to register. The nurse frowned slightly when she saw the patient's name written down.
"Editor-in-Chief Zheng refuses to see anyone, please leave."
Qin Xiaoyu stepped forward, raised the fruit basket in her hand, and was about to speak when Linda and Huo Shao hurriedly walked over.
"What a coincidence, the birthday celebrant has arrived too," Qin Xiaoyu said with a smile.
"Shut up, I don't want to talk to you." Linda wasn't going to be polite anymore. She walked up to the nurse, handed her her business card, and said, "Please take a look, Editor-in-Chief Zheng. I want to see her."
Seeing this, Qin Xiaoyu quickly handed over her business card as well, signaling the nurse to take it in as well.
The nurse had no choice but to take it inside to ask for permission, and she returned in the blink of an eye.
"Please come in, Ms. Qin. Ms. Huo, I'm sorry, Editor-in-Chief Zheng will not see you."
The result was unexpected. Qin Xiaoyu had only gone with a try-it-and-see attitude, but instead of letting Linda go, she did.
Editor-in-Chief Zheng was a woman in her forties, also very thin, and wore gold-rimmed glasses. When she saw Qin Xiaoyu enter, she sat up slightly, her eyes filled with tears, and hesitated to speak.
"Editor-in-Chief Zheng, I'd like to talk to you about this issue of the magazine."
"I'm so sorry, I think I made a serious mistake. When Mr. Fang came to me yesterday, I didn't realize it was just about grabbing a news story, so I tricked him with a fake sample copy. Now I understand, I almost made a huge mistake." Editor-in-Chief Zheng sighed deeply.
"It seems there really is a misunderstanding." Qin Xiaoyu had realized that Editor-in-Chief Zheng was being used.
"When Miss Huo approached me, she said she had some big news. I was too eager for quick success and wanted to expand the magazine, so I agreed to her confidentiality clause. On the surface, this issue of the magazine is a set of content, but in reality, it is a special issue on Sun Moon Fashion that I and another deputy editor-in-chief personally edited." Editor-in-Chief Zheng said with some emotion, and A Lei quickly brought her the water on the table.
"This matter was kept very secret. When you came to me, the typesetting sample I showed you was the content that the editorial department mistakenly thought we were going to produce. The real typesetting sample had already been sent to the factory for printing."
"So what are your plans for the next step?" This was Qin Xiaoyu's biggest concern.
"I have a videotape in my possession, given to me by Miss Huo. I will give it to you; rest assured, it will not be leaked. This is of great importance. At best, it's a commercial leak; at worst, it concerns national industry. Don't say I lack patriotism; I support anything Chinese people do." Qin Xiaoyu was deeply moved by Editor-in-Chief Zheng's words.
It seems the magazine has taken care of things. But Linda is such a smart person, she couldn't possibly have given the original video to Editor-in-Chief Zheng. I wonder how many copies were made.
"Well then, Editor-in-Chief Zheng, we trust you too. You can destroy the tape, or you can keep it and use it after Paris Fashion Week. We won't make things difficult for you, and you don't need to return it." Qin Xiaoyu now trusted Editor-in-Chief Zheng completely; the videotape was much safer in her hands than through repeated handovers.
The two of them came out of the ward, but Linda was gone.
“It won’t be easy to find a loophole with her, unless we alarm Old Master Huo like last time.” A Lei started to have ideas again. Qin Xiaoyu also knew that she couldn’t always use that trick. When stock prices fluctuate, retail investors suffer the most.
The eldest sister and Lin Yaofangfei were still waiting for news. They went back to report first, and saw an unfamiliar car at the door.
Another uninvited guest arrived, and Qin Xiaoyu quickened her pace.
Upon entering the hall, she saw a familiar face, rushed over with delight, and cried out, "Mom!"
Xiaoyu's mother and Fu Yongnian sat on the sofa, with the eldest sister sitting with them.
"I thought you had already gone back." Qin Xiaoyu knew they had come to Hong Kong for fun and should have returned long ago according to plan.
"Some things have been delayed. Your uncle has many old friends, and going to see them has taken up a lot of time." Xiaoyu's mother was wearing a white chiffon suit, her long black hair was tied up at the back of her head, and she looked neat and tidy. She looked to be only in her thirties.
A woman's marital status is written on her face; happiness or unhappiness can be seen in her eyes. Little Fish's mother's eyes held a calm and peaceful quality, a quality only those who crave security possess.
A Lei went over and greeted Fu Yongnian, then sat down next to him. He watched the mother and daughter chatting warmly, his eyes filled with doting affection.
"Uncle Fu, please stay tonight. Xiaoyu misses her mom too."
"I have some things to do tonight, and I'm afraid it will be a hassle for you all. It's a banquet hosted by an old friend, and you absolutely have to go. I said I would bring my daughter and son-in-law," Fu Yongnian said with a smile.
“Great, Xiaoyu will be happy.” A Lei didn’t mention the videotape at all. He could tell that Fu Yongnian was quite shrewd and probably already knew about it, but just didn’t say anything.
Lunch was to be served, and knowing the guests' appetites, the eldest sister instructed the cook to prepare some special dishes. Little Fish's mother didn't stand on ceremony and stayed.
After lunch, the eldest sister told them to go upstairs to the guest rooms to rest.
"Little Fish, you must be tired. Go and take a good nap. Dress up nicely tonight. We'll come pick you up tonight." Little Fish's mother refused to let them stay any longer, and not wanting to press them any further, she let them go.
"I feel like Mom and Uncle Fu are acting strangely. How could they not know why we came?" Qin Xiaoyu asked, frowning.
“There’s nothing strange about it. That’s your closest person, how could they possibly harm you? Just listen to me, don’t frown, or you’ll look ugly with wrinkles between your eyebrows.” A Lei smoothed out her wrinkles with his fingers.
"You don't want me anymore just because I'm ugly?" Qin Xiaoyu habitually picked a fight.
"I'll take you, even if you're ugly. I can't find someone as interesting as you again." A Lei pressed his face against her fair swan neck and rubbed it, and Qin Xiaoyu couldn't help herself.
I had a good nap in the afternoon and felt refreshed when I woke up in the evening.
Although the videotape Linda possessed was still a ticking time bomb, Qin Xiaoyu wasn't overly worried. Some things can't be solved by worrying; it's better to keep pushing the situation forward and defuse the bomb when it's about to explode.
She has an exceptionally good attitude, which is what A Lei likes most.
Qin Xiaoyu called her youngest daughter over and asked her to help her choose a dress.
"You trust her, don't you?" the eldest sister said coquettishly, but her tone was full of pride.
Of all her children, both biological and adopted, this is her only daughter, whom she dotes on immensely. Adding to her charm is her exceptional intelligence, making her irresistibly lovable.
“They have good taste, why shouldn’t I believe them? When they grow up, they’ll help me too. I’m ordering it now.” Qin Xiaoyu affectionately pinched her little daughter’s cheek.
"My daughter wants to work for you; she'll definitely become a director." The older woman was incredibly proud.
This time, her youngest daughter chose a youthful evening gown for Qin Xiaoyu, a dreamy chiffon off-shoulder ball gown, and Qin Xiaoyu rarely wore high heels.
After changing her clothes, A Lei's eyes lit up. This graceful beauty seemed like a completely different person.
