University student Qin Xiaoyu died with deep regrets, betrayed by a scumbag. Reborn, she finds herself in the body of a 25-year-old young widow with depression and two children, living in the 1980s...
Deng Jianyan was being lazy and held onto Zhou Yue's hand tightly. Their eyes met, sparks flying.
"Sis, you better watch out. If you have three more kids, Mom will kill you," Qin Xiaoyu couldn't help but tease.
"You dare tease me like that! This time I'll show you how to give birth to three at once!" Zhou Yue puffed out her cheeks in anger.
Over there, A Lei had already gone upstairs to call Aunt Wang down, but she thought the children were too noisy and was sleeping upstairs.
After coming here with Qi Si, she didn't live with him. Instead, she found a house near Deng Jianyan and went to the clinic every day to watch the excitement.
The old lady's business acumen was astonishing to Qin Xiaoyu. In less than a month, people were already asking her to calculate auspicious times for opening their businesses and to name their children. Small jobs came one after another.
Her language skills were many times better than Deng Jianyan's, and she could communicate with the locals without any difficulty, using gestures and words.
Qi Weiguo and Zhou Shiling were playing chess in the study upstairs when they came down together. Qin Xiaoyu counted them and realized there were quite a few people.
Wang Yuping's family has five members, Zhou Yue's family has seven, Qi Si's family has four, his sister-in-law's family plus her in-laws make seven, Zhou Shiling and his wife plus A Lei and his wife and child make six. Madam Fang and her wife and son, plus Aunt Wang, Qi Weiguo and Miranda, make 35 people, cramming the house full.
But in the eyes of Chinese people, this lively atmosphere is what makes for a family reunion during the Lunar New Year. No one is short of food; it's all about the atmosphere.
Just as everyone had settled down in a flurry of noise, they heard the sound of cars outside again, and more than one at that.
"What's going on? There's no room for anyone else to sit down," Qin Xiaoyu muttered, and Grandpa Hanhan had already opened the door nearby.
Several cars were parked quietly in front of the gate, their doors closed, and two people were standing in the doorway.
Hanhan threw herself into Zhou Shiling's arms, followed by A Lei's father.
"How come you..." Mrs. Fang was very excited when she saw her son appear.
She couldn't remember how many years it had been since she had celebrated Chinese New Year with her son.
"We're short on time, we can only have a quick meal before we have to catch our flight. Don't ask any more questions, let's eat." Hanhan's words were concise and to the point, her speech displaying a maturity beyond her years, making her seem like a grown-up.
Everyone understood immediately and took their seats.
No arrangements were needed; A Lei's dad's seat was right next to Miranda's. The table was a bit cramped, so they were very close together.
“I’m so glad you’re back,” Areda’s father whispered to Miranda.
Qin Xiaoyu felt inexplicably sad; this person's emotional intelligence had finally improved a little.
“Me too,” Miranda replied softly.
Both of them bowed their heads to the food in front of them, a thousand words unspoken.
Hanhan sat between Qin Xiaoyu and Zhou Shiling. They knew they couldn't ask anything, so they could only watch him silently.
Hanhan is more composed than before; it seems she's seen quite a bit of the world with her dad, A Lei.
Zhou Shiling reached out and patted Hanhan's head. Hanhan looked up at him with bright, sparkling eyes, just like when he stopped him from planting flags randomly in the training room when they were kids.
Qin Xiaoyu tried hard to hold back her tears, but they still streamed down her face. Zhou Xing's mother was also affected by her tears and lowered her head to wipe them away.
"Cheers! What are you all doing on this holiday? The kids are back to see us, we should be happy!" Qi Si quickly raised his glass to liven things up.
"Come on, Fourth Brother, let's drink to our hearts' content!" A Lei raised his glass, leaned forward, and reached out to his parents across the table. They raised their glasses and clinked them together with his. Time seemed to freeze, and their gaze lingered for a long time.
Qin Xiaoyu had composed herself. Seeing Hanhan today was already a pleasant surprise. She needed to be happy, because only if she was happy would Hanhan feel at ease leaving.
"Mom, please take good care of yourself." That was all Hanhan said as she left.
A Lei's dad progressed to the point where he hugged and kissed Miranda. When he let go, he found that Miranda was holding his arm and wouldn't let go for a long time.
The next person he was to hug was Mrs. Fang. He suddenly noticed that his mother had become thin and small, and for some reason, he felt a little reluctant to part with her.
Mrs. Fang buried her face in her son's arms and refused to look up for a long time.
The car was waiting outside; their time was limited, and they couldn't bear to part.
After seeing them off, the Spring Festival Gala had already started. Qi Si was afraid they would be in a bad mood, so he kept acting silly, which made Zhou Xing's mother sigh.
"I hope everyone is happy. Don't let my fourth son's feelings go to waste."
"Look, I've only been back for a short while, and my mom has already betrayed me. I'm going back to Paris," Zhou Yue said angrily. The three little ones, who were already quite mature, surrounded her with teary eyes when they heard that their mother was leaving.
Zhou Yue was touched and bent down to hug them all, kissing each of them and saying, "I won't go, Mommy won't go. With you all loving Mommy, Mommy won't go anywhere."
"Sister, enjoy yourself. In another twenty years or so, they'll marry their wives and forget about their mothers," Qin Xiaoyu said mischievously.
“Your son can do it too, I’m not worried!” Zhou Yue retorted.
“We have a daughter,” A Lei said to Qin Xiaoyu.
"I have a daughter too!" Zhou Yue proudly waved her hand, and Xiao Jin flew over like a wild goose, spreading her arms to hug Zhou Yue.
The child has grown taller again; if Wang Jian weren't tall enough, he might be too imposing to look at.
As usual, everyone watched the Spring Festival Gala with great enthusiasm. In previous years, Qin Xiaoyu would accompany them, but this year, due to her special health condition, she really couldn't. Around 10 PM, she leaned against A Lei's chest and became drowsy.
"Go upstairs and go to sleep. You don't need to stay with us. We're all family." Zhou Xing's mother shooed them upstairs.
Qin Xiaoyu lay down on the bed and instantly fell asleep.
