Ji Wanmei, naturally beautiful and graceful, was the factory director's daughter. At eighteen, she was admitted to the provincial university. With her braids and floral skirt, her waist swaying...
Chapter Ninety-One
Ji Wanmei is dressed very beautifully today.
Lei Tingjun noticed her the moment he saw her.
She wore a beautiful maroon suit that accentuated her slender figure and flawless skin.
Most importantly, this outfit didn't even have sleeves, revealing her two slender, fair arms.
Although Lei Tingjun thought it looked good, he secretly didn't really want her to dress like that in crowded places.
The wholesale market is crowded and jostling, and with her striking appearance, she could easily be taken advantage of or spied on.
The thought of Ji Wanmei being secretly admired by other men stirred up Lei Tingjun's possessiveness, making him feel irritable.
But he also understood that Ji Wanmei was naturally beautiful and had such an outstanding appearance.
And isn't it Ji Wanmei, who blooms like a bright and beautiful flower, that he loves?
All he could do was protect her at all times, preventing her from being bullied or coveted by others.
What he should do is protect her, appreciate her, and support her, not try to make her ordinary just because he likes her.
What he needs to change is himself, to improve, progress, and become stronger.
So that one day, he can stand openly beside her and hold her in his arms.
Ji Wanmei smiled and said, "We can go. We haven't had breakfast yet, so let's go get some noodles first."
Lei Tingjun has a very sharp eye when observing things.
Just like his name suggests, he has an innately sharp radar.
He could tell which restaurants on the food street were doing well and which weren't just by taking a quick glance.
And which restaurant is doing well because the food is genuinely delicious, and which is just popular because passersby go in and eat there.
Lei Tingjun glanced around, then turned to Ji Wanmei and said, "That place should be pretty good, and they have seats available. Let's go there."
Ji Wanmei had no objection, of course. It was just a matter of grabbing breakfast on the side, and it would only take fifteen minutes. It didn't matter which place she went to.
But Luo Chunyan just had to pick a fight with Lei Tingjun: "That place doesn't look as popular as the one across the street, it must not be very good, why do we have to go there?"
Lei Tingjun replied casually, "The noodle shop you mentioned is full of people carrying large bags of goods, mostly from out of town like us. They just go in because there are so many people, but the food is actually bad and overpriced. It's a rip-off for out-of-town customers."
"But the people who go to this place I'm talking about usually come empty-handed. And several of them went back to the wholesale market after they finished eating. This means they are all employees working in the local market. The noodle shops that locals love to eat at are usually the ones that have stood the test of time."
After hearing this, Ji Wanmei also took a look at it, following Lei Tingjun's line of thought.
And it turned out that it really was just as he said.
Luo Chunyan was speechless and just pursed her lips.
Thinking to myself, "You're being so particular about eating noodles? If you're so particular and analytical, why don't you become an investigator?"
"Alright, alright, let's go to the place you mentioned." Luo Chunyan thought to herself, if the food isn't good later, she'll have something to say about Lei Tingjun.
The three of them then entered the noodle shop.
Lei Tingjun asked Ji Wanmei what flavor she wanted to eat.
He always hoped to learn more about Ji Wanmei's preferences, including her eating habits.
Ji Wanmei glanced at the menu and price list posted on the wall and saw that the signature dried bean curd noodles were listed first, so she said, "Then let's have their signature dried bean curd noodles."
Lei Tingjun ordered a bowl of noodles with minced meat sauce. He had a big appetite, so he ordered a large portion.
Luo Chunyan pouted and looked at it for a while. In short, she didn't have much hope for the taste of this place, so she said, "Then I'll have a dry noodle dish with meat sauce."
The aroma of the preserved vegetable and pork sauce that Ji Wanmei made on the train still makes Luo Chunyan's mouth water.
"By the way, Meimei, when you get back, you must remember to teach me how to make your preserved vegetable and pork sauce."
Meat sauce can be used to mix with rice, and you can also add chopped pickled vegetables to it, which is much more cost-effective than just stir-frying a plate of meat.
Luo Chunyan's family is large. Sometimes when her younger brother and sister are craving something sweet, her parents will buy a piece of meat, cook it, and put it on the table. They will always give it to her younger brother first, and only give it to her sister after he has finished eating.
After the family went around, Luo Chunyan could only eat the last scraps.
If you make it into meat sauce rice, and put a spoonful in everyone's bowl, then everyone can get some.
Speaking of preserved mustard greens and pork sauce, Ji Wanmei glanced at Lei Tingjun across from her and said softly, "It's actually very simple. It's made by stir-frying the leftover preserved mustard greens and sauce after steaming the pork belly with preserved mustard greens."
When Lei Tingjun heard Ji Wanmei mention braised pork with preserved mustard greens, he silently raised his eyes and glanced at her.
In those dark, deep eyes, a restrained emotion stirred.
Ji Wanmei accidentally met his gaze, and felt a burning sensation in her heart. Her long eyelashes trembled, and she quickly lowered her eyes.
Luo Chunyan sighed regretfully, "So we have to steam the preserved mustard greens and braised pork belly first..."
That's a time-consuming, labor-intensive, and expensive dish; their family almost never prepares it like that except for Chinese New Year.
As they were talking, the noodles the three of them ordered were ready, and the proprietress brought them over with great enthusiasm.
The aroma wafted over instantly.
The clear broth noodles with dried bean curd that Ji Wanmei ordered actually had a chicken broth base.
Finely shredded dried tofu is cooked together with noodles, then added to chicken soup, topped with two green leafy vegetables, and the soup is garnished with a ring of light yellow chicken oil. Finally, it's sprinkled with chopped green onions, making it surprisingly appetizing and visually appealing.
