Rebirth in the Apocalypse: Raising Cubs to Become a God

In her previous life, Jiang Ruan finally defeated the final invaders with her supreme martial prowess and superpowers, preparing to ascend the supreme throne and lead humanity towards a new dawn.

Chapter 42 Zombie Building (4)

“Okay.” Zhang Yang was eager to try and stepped forward, but was stopped once again by Du Ning, who had just stopped Jiang Ruan from fighting.

"Pah..." He spat out blood, stretched out his right arm, and stared at Zhang Yang with a sinister look in his eyes. "Don't even think about it!"

He already understood what Jiang Ruan meant. He couldn't let Zhang Yang reap the benefits without lifting a finger, and he would rather die than let him.

"Get out of here. Do you think I'm really weak?" Zhang Yang sneered, kicked him away, and stabbed the zombie with his sword as Jiang Ruan had instructed.

"Ah... Roar roar roar..." The heart-wrenching roar shook the entire building. Green blood sprayed onto the rusty sword and slowly dissolved.

"What? No!" Du Ning struggled to his feet again. This time, his target was Jiang Ruan. He gritted his teeth, strode up to her, and asked incredulously,

"Why would you let him get these things? Aren't you afraid he might rebel? You can't see into someone's heart, how do you know he's definitely a good person? Don't be silly!"

A cold smile suddenly bloomed on Jiang Ruan's lips. She stood straight, leaned slightly towards Zhang Yang, and then said, "Even so, I am willing."

Du Ning was so angry that she spat out another mouthful of blood, which sprayed onto her clothes and almost splashed onto Jiang Ruan, but luckily she dodged quickly.

"You're insane! You're really insane!" Du Ning muttered as he fell to the ground.

Zhang Yang's side was still continuing, and Du Ning had no intention of going over to stop him, besides, he no longer had the ability to do so.

He looked at Jiang Ruan, the person he had been thinking about day and night was right beside him, yet she regarded him as an enemy. He couldn't understand why she had changed so quickly, when she had been so well-behaved back in school.

"Du Ning, it was you who found Wang Zhongyi, right? You had him pull the plug on Li Ming's parents' oxygen tubes, almost killing them."

"You assumed he was mentally ill, and that even if he committed a crime, the state would be lenient with him and not sentence him to death, so you took advantage of him."

Jiang Ruan's cold voice interrupted Du Ning's reverie. He was stunned for a moment, and then a deeper sense of hostility appeared on his face.

"That man, ha, he deserves to die. We didn't torture him for long enough and let him get away. He got off too easy."

Du Ning slowly got up and placed his body on the mat next to him, leaning against the wall to maintain his balance.

Jiang Ruan narrowed her eyes, touched the pattern on her middle finger, and secretly replenished her mental strength and energy. Her healing spells were always more effective.

Seeing that Jiang Ruan did not speak, Du Ning continued, "When the company went bankrupt, you made him sell all your properties. The funds I needed were just a fraction of what you had, but you were unwilling to do so."

"If I hadn't contacted Zhang Dan, my company would have been declared bankrupt and gone long ago."

Zhang Dan is the mistress from back then. Her parents are well-known wealthy businessmen, rich and powerful. No wonder Du Ning is so eager to curry favor with them.

"So you sold your feelings and your body for the company?" Jiang Ruan remained noncommittal.

"No!" Du Ning shouted, and continued, "I'm doing all this for you, for the baby, for our family. What will you do if I have no money or career? I can't not consider your feelings, can I?"

In short, it sounded very respectable, and if Jiang Ruan hadn't witnessed how he had harmed her and her child in her previous life, and how much he hated Zai Zai, she would have truly believed it.

Because she used to be obsessed with love, but things are different now.

Du Ning's face was filled with sorrow and resentment. "Who knew you were so much richer than her, yet you didn't tell me?"

"Du Ning, what's the point of saying all this now? Zhang Dan is pregnant. You shouldn't be dwelling on the past." Jiang Ruan glanced at him, a hint of impatience flashing in her eyes.

How could she have been so blind to fall for him? Now it seems he's nothing but a sycophant who'll stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

Fortunately, there was a chance to start over, and the little one would never know that he existed.

A look of surprise appeared on Du Ning's face. "You knew all along!"

Jiang Ruan was unwilling to look at this man's hypocritical face any longer, and turned to look at Zhang Yang. His sword had almost completely shed its rust, revealing its original golden color.

"What is this!" Du Ning snorted coldly, saying dismissively, "This isn't child's play anymore. Do you think I'd be scared by some magic sword?"

Zhang Yang didn't say anything, but just stared at Du Ning with an expression as if he were looking at an idiot, tapped his sword, and slowly took it out of the zombie.

“I’m telling you, this is a society governed by law. I have a one-button alarm function, so don’t do anything reckless.” Du Ning struggled to back away, kicking his legs wildly, but because his back was against the wall, he could only keep moving in place.

Zhang Yang walked up to him and made a feinting motion with his sword across his head. He was like a wounded, ruffled lion, only capable of bluffing and making empty gestures.

"Tch, with that kind of guts, they dare to be so arrogant!" Zhang Yang sheathed his sword and didn't linger with Du Ning for long. Instead, he turned to Jiang Ruan.

"The sword has been repaired and should be back to its original state. Now, what should we do with it?"

Jiang Ruan glanced at Du Ning, who was sprawled on the ground, shook her head, and pointed in the direction of the zombies. "No rush, there's something I haven't taken yet."

As he spoke, he walked up to the zombie, reached out and peered above its head until a nearly transparent crystal, with only a faint green glow at the edges, fell into his hand.

"Crystal?" Zhang Yang finally remembered. Before coming here, Jiang Ruan had reminded him that there would be crystals to stimulate the superpowers in his body. He originally thought that this sword was already meant for him.

Surprisingly, there really are crystals.

Jiang Ruan raised her hand to signal Zhang Yang to come over, handed him the crystal, and then gently wiped his middle finger with the sword in his hand.

The combination of blood, sword, and crystal made the entire room exceptionally bright, and an inner force surged within Zhang Yang. He closed his eyes, sat cross-legged, and absorbed all the energy from the crystal.

A moment later... Zhang Yang opened his eyes. His golden eyes, which flashed briefly, turned back to black in the blink of an eye, and a black flame-shaped mark flickered on his forehead.

Jiang Ruan stared at it for a long time, feeling a bit hot on her forehead. It wasn't until the flames disappeared that her forehead returned to normal.

Her eyes widened as she thought of a word, "Intuition!" It turned out to be true.

In my previous life, someone told me that two people who trust each other can sense each other after gaining superpowers; this is known as "a bond of camaraderie based on mutual respect!"

At that time, all I could see was the world and Du Ning; I couldn't see anyone else. Being at such a high place, I naturally couldn't feel this sensation.

At the time, I even scoffed at it, thinking that this was the kind of affection only the weak needed, and that it was not the same as my so-called love.

Jiang Ruan chuckled self-deprecatingly and said three words to her former self, "How stupid!"
