In her previous life, Jiang Ruan finally defeated the final invaders with her supreme martial prowess and superpowers, preparing to ascend the supreme throne and lead humanity towards a new dawn.
Jiang Ruan looked at the phone that had been hung up and felt a sinking feeling in her heart. She immediately turned on the satellite positioning system and located Wan Mei and the others.
A few minutes later, just as Jiang Ruan was getting ready to leave, the doorbell rang.
"Who is it, ringing the doorbell?" An Xia muttered as she turned on the security camera behind the door. Her initial doubts vanished, and she suddenly became excited. "Gu, Gu An?"
Anxia stopped moving; she never expected him to come at this time.
The door opened quickly, and Gu An entered. A rotten and foul stench wafted out, and his shadow was elongated by the faint light filtering in from outside, casting his image on the pristine white floor.
"Gu An, what happened to you!" An Xia said, covering her nose as she ushered him in.
In her memory, he had never been so disheveled before. She wondered what he had gone through to be in such a state today.
Gu An paused slightly before entering, but still went in. He stood in a corner of the living room, revealing the few people standing crowded behind him.
"Sorry, I ran into some trouble on the way here. Please excuse the mess." Gu An smiled and wiped the dirt off his face, but even so, it couldn't hide his stunning good looks. A slightly embarrassed smile tugged at his sculpted features.
Jiang Ruan looked at it, her heart stirred slightly, and she felt as if she were in a dream, finding it hard to believe.
When he saw the people behind him clearly, he understood. The people behind him were none other than Wan Mei and the other two he had planned to go out to look for. The people being carried behind him were probably Li Ming's parents.
After welcoming the group in, Jiang Ruan instructed Zhang Yang to take Gu An upstairs to wash up.
Li Ming went to take care of his parents, leaving Wan Mei lying there unwilling to move. When she saw Jiang Ruan coming over, her eyes filled with tears, and she looked aggrieved as she tried to rush over.
But then she remembered how dirty she was and took a step back.
"Tell me, what exactly happened? How did you all end up together? How did Gu An run into you? And what's with that phone call for help? What happened to you?"
An Xia felt better after seeing Gu An. Although she knew he didn't like her, she was happier to know that he was safe and well and still alive than to know that she was alright.
"Are you crazy? You've asked so many questions, how can I possibly answer them all at once?" Wan Mei pouted, and tears streamed down her face.
Anxia panicked at the sight. Honestly, she had no intention of making her cry; she had only asked her a few questions calmly.
Jiang Ruan waved her hand, slowly moved closer to Wan Mei, took out the prepared tissues to wipe her face, and gently comforted her, "Don't rush, tell me what happened slowly, we have plenty of time."
Wan Mei mumbled a reply, "Mmm."
So after a brief sob, Wanmei told them what had happened.
It turned out that when they arrived, the sun hadn't fully risen yet, so everything went smoothly. Plus, the hospital had given them instructions beforehand, so they were able to bring his parents out without any problems. They thought it would be the same all the way, but unexpectedly, they were stopped halfway down the main road.
Zombies surrounded every place—high-rise buildings, underground passages, cars, and more. They frantically destroyed street equipment, destroyed vehicles, and tore apart everyone they encountered.
Even though Wanmei's car was modified, it couldn't withstand the damage from more zombies. As they continued to wreak havoc, Li Ming and Zhang Yang jumped out and distracted them.
But there were simply too many zombies; they couldn't kill them all. Their killing speed couldn't keep up with the rate of infection, and within half an hour, they were surrounded.
Zhang Yang and Li Ming didn't give up on them, but because there were so many of them, they dared not stray too far, fearing danger if they left their side. So the two sides remained deadlocked.
In the end, a huge wave of zombies had gathered, and they couldn't fight their way out. In utter despair, the phone Wanmei had been dialing finally got a signal.
"So you called so many times, and as soon as you got through, you started calling for help." Jiang Ruan looked at Wan Mei with a pained expression. Compared to Li Ming and Zhang Yang, how did Wan Mei, a weak girl without any superpowers, manage to keep up with her mentality?
Wan Mei felt even more aggrieved, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand, still shaken by what she had just experienced. "You don't know, I was almost in despair. I couldn't get through on my phone, let alone call for emergency help. I knew you could save us, but you just couldn't. The last time I got through, the phone vibrated so violently that I threw it out of my hand."
Jiang Ruan thought of the phone call that had been hung up on, and realized that this must be the reason.
An Xia listened for a while but still didn't hear Gu An, so she couldn't help but get a little anxious. "Where's Gu An? What happened to that man who came with you?"
Wan Mei looked up, thought for a moment, and said, "So his name is Gu An. Jiang Ruan, let me tell you, he's the one who saved us. He's incredibly powerful, almost as powerful as you. He killed the zombies next to our car in no time."
And there was a super powerful zombie, clearly different from the others; its eyes were all red, just like the one I saw last night. It was incredibly formidable. But I still managed to kill it.
Seeing the excited yet proud expression on Wan Mei's face, Jiang Ruan could imagine that Gu An had descended like a savior, rescuing everyone in their car. The gratitude and emotion she felt were genuine.
"I knew it. But why would he save you? It was such a dangerous situation. He should have run away by himself." Anxia rested her chin on her hand, staring at the side with a puzzled look.
"Tch." Wan Mei glared at An Xia fiercely. If possible, Jiang Ruan felt that she would definitely go up and argue with her again. In her heart, Gu An was a perfect person and would never stand by and watch someone die.
Jiang Ruan knew what An Xia was thinking. He never cared about the lives of strangers, so why would he save them in such a dangerous situation?
Actually, An Xia was wrong. Apart from appearing a bit cold, Gu An was actually very kind-hearted.
"Oh, he's here! Wow, he's so handsome! Just thinking about being saved by such a handsome person makes me so excited that my body doesn't hurt anymore, and my heart isn't sad anymore either." Wan Mei held her face in her hands, staring at Gu An who had just come down after getting ready.
An Xia watched with a smirk, then softly uttered, "Pathetic!"
Jiang Ruan and Gu An stared at each other, as if they could no longer see anyone else in each other's eyes.
Wanmei and Anxia were both very clever. Seeing the two of them like this, they understood what was going on. They both showed sly and slightly teasing smiles, and then left the living room together, obviously to find out what interesting things or secrets were going on, so as to satisfy their curious and gossipy hearts.
