According to reports, this story begins at an entirely unscientific moment: Zhou Ziye, a designer who rose from creating counterfeit mobile phones, suddenly time-traveled back to the year 1984.
...Lei Jun was assigned a task to optimize a program in Xiao Tian's work group.
At first, Lei Jun thought it was easy, but after delving deeper, he realized it wasn't so simple. He found that the code became increasingly complex as he went further, and there were many parts that he couldn't understand.
"Mr. Xiao, I don't understand these few lines of code." Lei Jun called Xiao Tian over and asked, pointing to a few lines of code on the monitor.
"It's okay if you don't understand, just read it a few more times." Xiao Tian didn't explain further, but told Lei Jun to read it carefully and try to remember it.
There's so much code, how can anyone remember it all? Just looking at it makes my eyes dizzy, and if I look at it too much, I'll feel nauseous.
Lei Jun had no choice but to grit his teeth and continue reading.
Lunchtime has arrived, finally time to rest and eat. Programmers don't have the concept of leaving get off work; whoever is hungry can go eat.
Lei Jun was different; when it was time to eat, no one bothered him.
Actually, both the hardware and software teams have their own cafeterias, open 24 hours a day. Lei Jun wasn't quite used to the environment when he first arrived, so he ate at the cafeteria at Dami Technology Company.
The cafeteria was just the right number of people, each occupying a seat.
Although the seats look full, there aren't actually that many people.
After getting my food and sitting down, I saw a girl standing next to me with a plate of food. She asked, "There are no seats available. I saw that this place is empty. May I sit here?"
Lei Jun nodded and said, "Sit down!"
"Thank you. I'm from the foreign trade department; I think I've seen you at the general office before," the girl said.
"Oh! I'm in the general office," Lei Jun said after taking a few bites of food and swallowing.
"I remember now, you must be the new assistant general manager! Hello, I'm Zhao Haiyan from the Foreign Trade Department."
"Hello, I am Lei Jun."
"You are as young as President Xing."
"Thank you. Eat quickly, it'll get cold soon."
Zhao Haiyan smiled slightly, ate a few bites, and didn't ask any more questions. But then she started talking again, asking, "I heard you just graduated, which university did you go to?"
"To be precise, I haven't graduated yet; I'm at Wuhan University." Lei Jun felt this wasn't a secret and said it casually.
What is your opinion of our Ministry of Foreign Trade?
"I'm sorry, I just arrived. I haven't been there yet, let alone know anything about it," Lei Jun said with an awkward laugh.
"I can give you a briefing when I have time, so you can understand the trends in rice exports and I can compile some data to make your work easier," Zhao Haiyan said softly.
Is this appropriate?
“Why is it inappropriate? You’re the general manager’s assistant, so you need to memorize and understand a lot of data. Otherwise, when someone asks you about it or when you’re writing documents, you’ll have to look it up first. Let’s exchange contact information. I’ll organize the data and give it to you, or you can ask me if you have any questions.”
After thinking for a moment, Lei Jun nodded in agreement.
He didn't know the data on foreign trade, but since he was by Xing Baohua's side, he naturally wanted to have a more comprehensive understanding.
They exchanged contact information, and Lei Jun went back to working on his code.
After returning to her office, Zhao Haiyan asked for leave to handle some business and then went out.
She did have business to attend to. She came to the city hotel to meet with several foreign agents, signed a few documents, and then left.
Instead of going back to the company, he was at a shopping mall on West Third Road.
There's a shoe repair shop at the entrance of the mall.
Zhao Haiyan went inside and saw that the shop owner was busy, so she waited for a while. When the owner turned his head and saw her, he said very politely, "Please wait a moment, it will be ready in a little while."
"It's okay, I still have some time."
About ten minutes later, after the customers in the store had left, Zhao Haiyan took off one shoe and said, "Boss, can you take a look for me? The heel is a bit loose and it's wobbly."
"Let me see, oh dear, the nail on the heel is loose. It needs to be replaced. I'll go check the back and see if there's a nail this long. Just a moment." The shoe repairman said as he walked into the inner room and closed the door behind him.
The moment he arrived at the door, he quickly pried open the heel of the shoe and took out a note from inside.
The note read: "Go to Wuhan University and check Lei Jun's detailed information. Lei Jun's contact information..."
After reading the note, the shoe repairman crumpled it into a ball, walked to the honeycomb briquette stove where water was boiled, put it in, and soon the note turned to ash.
"Your shoes are fixed. Take care," the shoe repairman said to Zhao Haiyan as he came out of the back room.
"How much."
"I'm a regular customer. It's just a nail, no charge," the shoe repair shop owner said with a smile.
"Thank you, boss."
After Zhao Haiyan left, the shoe repairman sat on a small stool and pulled out two thin threads from a hidden spot behind him. One thread was draped over the iron foot of the shoe, and the other was connected to a small iron hammer.
There was no one in the shop at the time, so he casually picked up a shoe, placed it on the iron foot, and began to hammer it.
I tried hammering a nail for ages but couldn't get it into the shoe.
He struck the iron in a very rhythmic way, sometimes three long strikes followed by two short strikes followed by one long strike, and he did this mixed-up hammering for more than ten minutes.
Luckily, no one was around. Even if someone were, they would have assumed he was working.
At the other end of the wire, there was a small room, and the light in the room would flash in rhythm with the hammer.
The person watching the light quickly took out a piece of paper and deciphered its contents based on the flickering of the light bulb.
He then found the codebook and began to decipher it. After seeing the deciphered content, he burned the paper with a match.
Lei Jun finally figured something out while looking at the code in the afternoon.
This is not the commonly used C language, but a JAVA program.
After finally understanding something, I realized that there are three systems in the world, including rice.
A programmer's favorite Unix system. Also, the Microsoft system used in the West, plus the current Android system.
