A daughter from a prominent family is desired by many, yet the daughter of the Yong family is sought by none. Noble families consider her nouveau riche and vulgar, while scholarly houses pride them...
"How can we save her?" asked Madam Wei Zhong.
Zhao Bi gestured to the maid beside her, and Wei Zhongshi waved for the maid and servants to leave, leaving only her trusted confidante to guard her.
"Can the Fourth Prince speak now?"
Zhao Bi lowered his voice, seemingly confident, "Madam, who do you think imprisoned Lord Wei?"
“Wang Jiyang?” She only knew that Wang Jiyang had been to Beiding Prefecture. Before Zhao Bi could reply, she asked again, “The Crown Prince?” The Crown Prince also went to Beiding Prefecture later.
Zhao Bi shook his head. "No, none of those are true."
"Who is that?" She asked, then immediately thought of Wei Tingsi, but shook her head. "It can't be him. He's fighting in Chu. How could it be him?"
"Madam, you are mistaken. Marshal Wei is the Grand Marshal of the army, with subordinates all over the world. If he wanted to imprison someone, wouldn't it be easy for him? Don't forget, Madam, he is no ordinary person, having been granted great power by the King and given command of the army at such a young age."
It must be said that Zhao Bi is indeed good at guessing certain things, and he is right every time. Madam Wei Zhong was stunned for a long time, and her face turned pale. She originally thought that as long as she controlled the Wei family, that rebellious son would not be able to cause any trouble. No matter how powerful he is outside, he is still Wei Caitao's son.
How could he disobey his father? How could he be unfilial? She could hardly imagine that rebellious son daring to imprison his own father; it was simply outrageous.
"What do you think, Madam?" Zhao Bi pressed, not getting an answer from Madam Wei.
Wei Zhongshi looked at him with deep eyes and her chest rising and falling slightly. She was already beautiful, but her face was pale, which made her look pitiful. Zhao Bi glanced at her rising and falling chest, her full figure and delicate eyebrows, and his heart was moved. Wei Zhongshi was the most charming woman he had ever seen.
No wonder Wei Caitao abandoned his eldest son and doted on his second wife and their children.
Lady Wei noticed Zhao Bi's gaze, glared at him, quite annoyed, but did not reprimand him. Instead, she asked, "According to Your Highness, how should we save them?"
"How to save her is another matter for now. I have other important matters to discuss with you, Madam." Zhao Bi bowed very politely.
The sudden bow made Madam Wei's heart skip a beat. She sat in the main seat, picked up her teacup, covered half of her face with her sleeve, took a sip of tea, and waited quietly for Zhao Bi to continue.
Zhao Bi sat down next to her, lowered his voice, and said quite solemnly, "I have come here today to ask for the hand in marriage with your daughter."
With a crash, Madam Wei swept the teacups and teapot off the coffee table, sending them sprawling to the floor. At the same time, she pointed an enraged finger at Zhao Bi, shouting, "Impossible!"
“Madam, please don’t rush to refuse.” Zhao Bi was neither anxious nor worried. Instead, he carefully picked up the porcelain shards from the ground. “Porcelain shards are scattered all over the ground. Madam, please watch your step and don’t cut your feet.”
Maids and servants ran in from outside, "Madam, what has happened?"
Madam Wei Zhong was just acting impulsively, her anger reaching its peak. After venting, she felt much better and said irritably, "It's nothing, go downstairs." She was still more concerned about Wei Caitao's whereabouts.
As they spoke, Zhao Bi picked up the larger pieces of porcelain and placed them on the table. “These are fine porcelain pieces. Why take your anger out on them, Madam? It’s such a waste. If you’re upset, just take it out on me.”
His unhurried tone didn't sound like someone coming to propose to someone's daughter at all; it sounded more like someone coming to flirt. Madam Wei Zhong wanted to get angry, but then she noticed Zhao Bi standing right in front of her, very close to her. She glared at him angrily, but then met Zhao Bi's gentle gaze. He was smiling, and although he wasn't as pleasing to the eye as Wei Caitao, who had an otherworldly air about him, he had a unique charm. Moreover, he was young and quite pleasing to the eye.
"Does Madam think what I said is wrong?" he asked condescendingly.
Wei Zhongshi was shorter than him, so she looked up at him. Their eyes met, and the anger in her eyes gradually subsided. She then sat back down in the main seat, and her trusted maidservant poured her another cup of tea.
Seeing that she had stopped talking, Zhao Bi sat down as well. Before he could speak, Madam Wei Zhong said coldly, "Why should the Fourth Prince marry the daughter of my Wei family? Don't think that I, a woman, don't know what's going on outside. Just because the Sun family's daughter is useless, you kick her aside and throw mud at others. If my Wei family's daughter is useless, would you do the same?"
"So, Madam agrees to this marriage?" Zhao Shu misinterpreted Wei Zhongshi's last words.
Madam Wei Zhong was furious again, "Impossible!"
“Madam, please think this over carefully. The rumors outside have nothing to do with me. Sun Jiao is my wife. If she is humiliated, I will not be honored either. Now that Lord Wei is not here, Yang Zhong is a traitor, and the Imperial Noble Consort is in the eye of the storm. It is so difficult. Why should I put myself in a position where I am condemned by thousands and cursed by everyone?”
He spoke sincerely and with conviction. He had been wronged, but instead of wearing a mournful face, his gaze was firm and his expression solemn.
Madam Wei Zhong composed herself and asked, "You mean someone plotted against you?"
"Madam is intelligent, surpassing all other women in their secluded homes." He spared no praise.
"So, besides my Yun Shu, who else from the Wei family do you want to marry?" Even if she agreed that Zhao Bi was framed, she couldn't bring herself to marry her own daughter to him. However, she didn't care about the other daughters of the Wei family.
Zhao Bi looked at him with a smile, "I will never forget your noble character, Madam. The choice of the person to be chosen is entirely up to you."
After saying that, he gestured to the maid standing behind Wei Zhongshi, as if he had something more secret to tell her.
Madam Wei Zhong pondered, indeed, Wei Caitao's whereabouts had not yet been revealed.
He waved his hand, signaling his trusted maid to leave as well, and closed the door behind her.
As Zhao Bi listened to the footsteps fading into the distance, his gaze grew bolder and more intense, until his breathing became heavy.
