A daughter from a prominent family is desired by many, yet the daughter of the Yong family is sought by none. Noble families consider her nouveau riche and vulgar, while scholarly houses pride them...
"Xian'er, quickly call her Sister Ajun and greet her." Huo Danlan gently pushed Huo Guxian in front of Zhao Shu.
Huo Guxian bowed to Zhao Shu with a serious expression, like a little man, his waist slightly bent, and his childish voice imitated an adult's tone, saying, "Xian greets Sister Ajun, may you be well."
Zhao Shu couldn't help but laugh, and wanted to reach out and touch Huo Guxian's face, but with Huo Baichuan and Huo Danlan there, she held back and said in a pretentious manner, "No need for formalities, no need for formalities, go and get Xian some pastries." Seeing the cute little child, Zhao Shu couldn't help but feel her maternal love overflow, and wanted to give him something delicious to eat.
Huo Guxian's face fell, and he looked at Huo Danlan for help, but as if he remembered something, he turned his head back and stood upright and proper in front of Zhao Shu.
Seeing his demeanor, Zhao Shu couldn't help but compare it to Huo Baichuan's behavior. Huo Guxian was the kind of gentleman from a prominent family who should have such manners.
"Xian'er is my nephew. He'll be going to Guanzhou with us in a few days. I brought him here to introduce him to you today," Huo Danlan explained to Zhao Shu with a smile.
Zhao Shu's eyes widened, her delight evident. "Xian'er is so adorable. With such a cute child accompanying me on this trip to Guanzhou, I'm sure I won't be lonely."
Unable to get a reply from Zhao Shu, Huo Baichuan clicked his tongue and said, "Princess, you're not much older than my Xian."
Zhao Shu felt awkward. Indeed, Huo Guxian looked to be about six years old, while her own physical age was only nine. However, she knew she would lose if she took Huo Baichuan seriously, but she couldn't admit defeat. She looked up and met his gaze. "Xian is younger than me, that's a fact."
Discussing trivial matters with a child so earnestly made Huo Baichuan feel incredibly bored. He simply ignored Zhao Shu and said to Huo Danlan, "Elder sister, Father sent Doctor Lou to the capital to accompany you to Guanzhou. He should be at the Huo residence by now. I'll go check on him." After saying that, he patted Huo Guxian's head and said, "Take good care of your aunt."
"I understand, Second Uncle, please go with peace of mind." Huo Guxian replied in a serious tone, looking absolutely adorable. Zhao Shu felt her eyes were already sparkling with hearts.
Huo Baichuan nodded, raised an eyebrow at Zhao Shu, as if to say, "Look how much more sensible my Xian is than you, you audacious little princess."
Zhao Shu: ...Heaven must be joking. Why was Huo Baichuan able to be the Minister of the Imperial Secretariat in his previous life? That's the head of all officials...
Before she could figure it out, Huo Baichuan left. As soon as he left, Huo Guxian took out a white bracelet from his pocket. Zhao Shu looked at it and saw that the bracelet was made of bodhi root, warm and smooth like jade, and extremely beautiful, but not particularly valuable.
"I made this myself. I hope Sister Ajun likes it. Thank you, Sister Ajun, for letting my aunt stay at your home." He presented the items to Zhao Shu with utmost politeness, his face full of sincerity.
Zhao Shu couldn't love this sensible child more. The child's appearance was secondary; the main thing was that he was just too cute. He was clearly a soft and adorable little boy, yet he acted with the composure of an adult, which didn't seem out of place at all. Instead, it made her feel incredibly sorry for him, and her heart melted.
"Thank you, I like it very much." As she reached out to take the bracelet, she casually pinched Huo Guxian's cheek.
Huo Guxian stared wide-eyed at Zhao Shu in disbelief, his face puffed up with anger. He looked so cute that Zhao Shu couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Zhao Shu reached into her sleeves and realized she had nothing to give in return. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the jade pendant hanging on Huo Guxian's belt, which belonged to her father, so she gave up on the idea.
When Chu Chun arranged for Huo Gu Xian to stay in the courtyard where Huo Bai Chuan used to live, Zhao Shu saw Xiao Zhu Zi coming over. Huo Dan Lan also knew that Zhao Shu managed the entire Yong Wang Mansion and that Xiao Zhu Zi was her confidant, so she took the initiative to go back to her room.
Zhao Shu picked up a chair and sat down, then asked Xiao Zhu, who had just arrived, "How did it go?"
"Prince Duan has returned to his residence. Chu Yang did not reveal any flaws. Prince Duan has already sent people to find Chu Yang. Princess, Chu Yang asked him if he could go to Yunnan." Xiao Zhuzi thought of the sordid things he had seen last night. He still felt like vomiting, but he had already vomited up his jaundice and had nothing left to vomit.
“He can do whatever he wants. Once he takes the money, he can go wherever he wants. I promised him a law-abiding citizenship, and I will never go back on my word.” Zhao Shu slowly put down the teacup she was fiddling with, wrote a few words on the table with the tea, and said, “Go and buy some of these medicinal herbs. Don’t let anyone know that they were bought by someone from the Prince Yong’s mansion. It’s best to buy them separately from various pharmacies.”
Xiao Zhuzi memorized the names of the medicinal herbs, bowed, and withdrew. After Xiao Zhuzi left, Sheng Xia came over and reported, "Princess, Granny Zhong has arrived."
"Please come in quickly." Zhao Shu hurriedly stood up. Since she was punished to kneel last time, she had not received any summons from the palace. She knew that her grandmother was still angry. She also had many things to do, so she had not gone to the palace to pay her respects. Now she felt extremely guilty.
Shengxia invited Granny Zhong in and then left. Granny Zhong waited until Shengxia was out of sight before greeting Zhao Shu, "This servant greets the Princess. Is your knee fully healed?"
Zhao Shu hurriedly helped her up, saying, "You're all better now, Grandmother."
"If the princess is well, then the Empress Dowager is well too. Don't be fooled by how harshly the Empress Dowager punished her; she herself regrets it. That's why she couldn't help but send me over to check on her today. The princess is completely better now. The Empress Dowager doesn't even trust the female physician anymore." Seeing that Zhao Shu looked well, Granny Zhong was much relieved. Fearing that Zhao Shu might resent the Empress Dowager, she quickly spoke well of her.
Without her saying anything, Zhao Shu understood that her grandmother cared about her. Her eyes welled up with tears, and she said with a choked voice, "It's because A-Jun is so ignorant that she has worried her grandmother."
“Princess is so sensible. Everything the Empress Dowager does is worthwhile. The Empress Dowager asked me to tell the Princess that she will be setting off for Guanzhou the day after tomorrow and will not be back for three to five years. Does the Princess have any friends she needs to say goodbye to? Please do so as soon as possible.” Granny Zhong was happy for the Empress Dowager. The Princess was becoming more and more sensible and knew how to be considerate of the Empress Dowager, which was something she had never done before.
