A daughter from a prominent family is desired by many, yet the daughter of the Yong family is sought by none. Noble families consider her nouveau riche and vulgar, while scholarly houses pride them...

Chapter 19 Those Who Block My Way Will Die

"Princess, please save His Highness the Crown Prince! Princess, I beg you!" Hongye's empty sleeves fluttered back and forth, which was particularly eerie. Zhao Shu couldn't bear to look anymore and turned her head away.

A series of coughs came from inside the room, and Zhao Shu quickly lifted the curtain and went in.

Even though she couldn't accept it, the fact remained that the Crown Prince was injured. She practically went in with her eyes closed, and if Zhihai hadn't been there to support her, she probably would have fallen.

"Ah Jun, you've grown taller." The prince's hoarse voice rang in her ears. He was clearly a living person, but she could only smell a strong medicinal odor and couldn't sense any vitality. Back then, as long as the prince was there, the place was filled with the scent of sunshine. He was a man who was so confident that he was practically invincible.

Tears welled up uncontrollably. When she opened her eyes, she saw the Crown Prince lying on the bed beside her. His face was haggard, his eyes were sunken, and his once bright and spirited eyebrows were now furrowed. He coughed from time to time, looking like an old man whose sun had set. She could not compare the Crown Prince in front of her to the Crown Prince before he left the capital.

The Crown Prince was quite pleased to see Zhao Shu and managed a smile. Hongye, who was standing to the side, saw the Crown Prince finally smile and tears streamed down her face. Qingye was dead, her arm was gone, and hundreds of lives had been lost to get the Crown Prince to Guanzhou. The Crown Prince was indeed close to the Princess, for he actually smiled.

"Don't cry, Ah Jun. You're already ugly, and crying will only make you uglier." The Crown Prince wanted to tease Zhao Shu, but he coughed after only a few words.

Zhao Shu slowly walked to the bedside, placed her hand on the quilt covering the prince, and wanted to touch it to see if his legs were still there.

"Don't worry, Ah Jun, you can still move your legs." To reassure Zhao Shu, he personally lifted the blanket and moved his legs.

Seeing that her legs were still intact, Zhao Shu felt a huge weight lifted from her heart and smiled, "Crown Prince, get well soon! Once you're better, let's go back to the capital together and send all those who harmed you to hell!"

The Crown Prince has experienced a lot in the past few months, and it can be said that he has narrowly escaped death countless times. His mind and vision are now far beyond what they used to be.

He reached out and wiped away Zhao Shu's tears. "Okay, Crown Prince will get better. But can you promise me one thing, Ah Jun?"

“Please speak, Your Highness. I will grant your request as long as it is within my power.”

The Crown Prince touched Zhao Shu's face, as if he wanted to etch that face into his heart forever. He had truly realized this: there is no kinship in the royal family. Only Ah Jun truly cared for him.

“Ah Jun, you must take good care of your royal aunt for your brother. She is stubborn and sometimes misunderstands things, but as long as you treat her well, she will treat you well in return. If she is short-tempered, Ah Jun, you must be more tolerant of her. Your brother is sorry for not being able to take care of you. When there is a new crown prince, don’t lose your temper with him. You can’t fight city hall. Don’t take advantage of your grandmother’s support to act arrogantly in the palace. Many people want to harm you. Lord Wei and Lord Huo are both good people. If there is anything you can’t solve, ask them for help. I heard that your nineteenth uncle is inspecting the country on behalf of the emperor. Your brother is happy for you.”

Zhao Shu stared blankly at the Crown Prince. His despair, as if he were giving his last instructions, made her very uncomfortable. Who would give her back the Crown Prince she knew before?

"Brother Crown Prince, please don't be like this. What new Crown Prince, what taking care of Aunt the Empress? A-Jun can't do any of that. You know, A-Jun is willful and capricious. A-Jun can't meet any of your demands. Do you remember what A-Jun said before you left the capital? I said I only recognize you as my brother. Even if someone else is the Crown Prince, they are not my brother. If there is anything I can't handle, I won't go to anyone else. A girl needs her own brothers to support her. If you don't support me, what will I do if others bully me?"

The Crown Prince patted Zhao Shu's head, but didn't reply. Instead, he looked at her with affection and smiled. His smile was genuine and radiant. He said to Hongye, "Help me up."

"Your Highness, you need to rest well," Hongye said.

The Crown Prince glanced at her, and Hongye had no choice but to help him up. Zhao Shu also wanted to help, but was stopped by the Crown Prince's gesture.

Knowing that she was too weak, Zhao Shu hurriedly asked Zhi Hai to help her. Zhi Hai and Hong Ye helped the prince off the bed, one on each side. Zhao Shu hurriedly went to get the cloak next to her. When she took off the cloak and turned around, she was stunned.

The prince still had his leg, but he was lame.

She stared intently at the prince's leg, her gaze so intense that the prince turned to look at her. "Ah Jun, don't worry, it won't hurt after a while."

"I'll make them all die!" If Heaven insists on preventing Zhao Yi from becoming emperor, she'll tear the sky down and trample it under her feet!

Huo Danlan draped the cloak over the prince and entered with Xiao Pang. Huo Danlan saw that Zhao Shu was indeed there and anxiously hugged her tightly, saying, "Go see who brought A-Jun here!"

Zhao Shu was confused by the hug. "Auntie, didn't you ask someone to bring me to see my brother, the Crown Prince?"

The people in the room looked at each other blankly, and the room, which was filled with the strong smell of medicine, fell into a deathly silence.

Little Fatty realized what was happening and hurriedly dragged his tired body outside.

Seeing the little fat boy run out, the prince coughed again. After he finished coughing, the little fat boy was already far away. He said hoarsely, "I begged my grandfather to let me see A-Jun. Please forgive me if I was impolite."

Hearing this, Zhao Shu became even more puzzled. "Wasn't it the Emperor's brother-in-law who came?"

“My uncle arrived first, and my maternal grandfather only arrived yesterday,” the Crown Prince explained.

Huo Danlan did not let Zhao Shu go, and said to the Crown Prince in a distant manner: "This is the Huo family. If Your Highness has any instructions, you can tell me. I think it is more reliable for me to do it than for the Imperial Father-in-law and the Imperial Brother-in-law to do it. Mr. Ouyang is waiting outside. I will ask the old gentleman to come and treat Your Highness."
