Rebirth of the New Wedding Night: Clinging to the Rugged Husband and Not Letting Go

Shen Heng, the village bully of Shili Village, has a fierce and intimidating persona.

To everyone's surprise, his newly wedded little wife is not afraid of him at all. In fact, she keeps ...

Chapter 15 An Impossible Mission

That's the point. It's not just about halving the time; it's impossible for villagers to work for five days straight without sleep and still maintain a high wheat harvesting efficiency.

Li Lide roared, "When faced with difficulties, we must overcome them! We working people will never back down! As long as we are sincere, we can accomplish even the most difficult tasks!"

Bai Jiaojiao couldn't help but purse her lips when she heard the slogan.

Everyone knows this is an impossible task.

But the village chief's words effectively silenced everyone.

The brigade leader was still distributing tasks, but when he arrived at their home, he was given thirty acres of mountain land.

Deng Min frowned and whispered, "Thirty acres of mountain land, how can we harvest it all in less than ten days!"

The mountainous terrain is uneven, with patches of land scattered about, making it much more difficult to harvest than flat land.

Bai Shihai was also worried. Even if he relied entirely on his strength, he would have to work very hard to complete those thirty acres.

Not to mention the three women in their family, one of whom, Bai Jiaojiao, is practically half-disabled in terms of labor capacity.

"It's okay, brother, we can definitely finish this!"

Bai Jiaojiao was very confident, and Bai Shihai glanced at her but didn't dare to say anything harsh.

Bai Shiqing arrived with her brother and sister-in-law's breakfast. Upon hearing that they were going to harvest thirty acres of mountain land in five days, Bai Shiqing immediately started cursing: "This is fucking inhuman!"

Bai Shihai glared at Bai Shiqing: "Little girl, be more civilized!"

Although Bai Shiqing kept her mouth shut, she let out a deep breath through her nose.

Deng Min said, "Alright, alright, hurry up and get your tools. There aren't many good sickles in the village."

Iron is incredibly expensive these days, and everyone is poor. No one working on a collective project would use their own tools. The tools used by the brigade show heavy signs of wear and tear, so if you want to use good tools, you have to grab them in advance.

Deng Min led Bai Shiqing away quickly, while Shen Heng was still on the side, telling Bai Jiaojiao, "It's okay, I can harvest two and a half mu a day, you don't need to worry."

Shen Heng was calculating the progress of working from dawn till dusk. He would rather be tired himself than let Bai Jiaojiao's little arms and legs suffer.

Bai Jiaojiao chuckled: "Brother Heng, I'm not in a hurry. Don't we still have a secret weapon?"

Shen Heng couldn't help but laugh.

Secret weapon? What kind of adjective is that?

He echoed Bai Jiaojiao's words, saying, "Yes, then you, the great hero, don't need to do anything more."

After a lot of work and arranging tasks, the sky gradually brightened. When everyone arrived at the field, the sky had already turned a pale white. Bai Jiaojiao checked her watch; it was almost five o'clock.

"Let's get to work."

Bai Shihai rubbed his hands together, stretched his muscles, and then bent over.

Deng Min and Bai Shiqing, who were sisters-in-law, had always had a good relationship. They would get together, talking and cutting as they went.

Shen Heng told Bai Jiaojiao to rest, but Bai Jiaojiao refused and followed behind him. Before long, he left her far behind.

"You can't do much anyway, why are you trying to be brave?"

Bai Jiaojiao raised her head and glared at Shen Heng with her big, watery eyes. Shen Heng immediately surrendered: "Okay, you can stay behind me and gather up the wheat ears, alright?"

"OK!"

Bai Jiaojiao was overjoyed.

Shen Heng took a deep breath, unsure of what he was doing.

Although everyone knew that the mission was impossible to complete, no one wanted to see the wheat in the field being rained on.

Farmers cherish food the most.

Everyone in Shili Village was working hard in the fields. Bai Jiaojiao thought she wouldn't be able to keep going, but unexpectedly, she also couldn't lift her back all morning.

The midday sun hung overhead, as if it were trying to bake people dry.

Shen Heng said, "Go home and fetch two jugs of cool water from the well and bring them over."

The well water was icy cold, but digging a well cost money, and not every household in the village had a well; the Bai family didn't.

Upon hearing Shen Heng's words, Bai Shiqing couldn't help but swallow hard: "Little sister, you should go quickly."

To put it bluntly, none of the people in the field expected Bai Jiaojiao to be able to work.

Bai Jiaojiao pursed her lips and noticed that her lips were chapped. She raised her hand to look at her watch; it was exactly ten o'clock.

She couldn't take it anymore and agreed, "Okay, I'll go get some water right away and be right back!"

She kept bending over, then cried out "Ouch!" and almost fell, but luckily Shen Heng reached out and caught her.

"Be careful," Shen Heng said, feeling even worse than if he himself were suffering, seeing Bai Jiaojiao in this state. "I told you to stop working and go back to run some errands."

Bai Jiaojiao, supporting her waist, descended the mountain.

Sigh, this job is really not something she can do.

As soon as Bai Jiaojiao came down the mountain, she saw Bai Shibao walking in this direction: "Third Brother!"

"I came to bring you this," Bai Shibao handed the whittled sickle blade to Bai Jiaojiao, and casually asked, "Has the village started harvesting wheat today?"

"Yes, thanks to Third Brother!"

Bai Shibao still felt uncomfortable being called "Third Brother" by Bai Jiaojiao.

He asked, "Do you need me to stay and help?"

"No need, Third Brother, don't worry, this is enough!"

Bai Jiaojiao knew that Bai Shibao was having a hard time as an apprentice. His master was not easy to deal with, and if Bai Shibao asked for leave to come back and harvest wheat, he would probably be punished.

Bai Shibao didn't stand on ceremony: "Then I'll head back; I have things to do at the shop."

Bai Jiaojiao took two sickle blades and went back to attach them to the handles.

After drinking his fill of water, he filled four more glass bottles, tied them with hemp rope, and carried them up the mountain.

When the team leader, Li Hongtao, came over to supervise the work and found that Bai Jiaojiao was not in the field, he said unhappily, "It's one thing for Bai Jiaojiao to work only three days and rest two days, but what time is it now? Why isn't she contributing to the collective?"
