Shen Heng, the village bully of Shili Village, has a fierce and intimidating persona.
To everyone's surprise, his newly wedded little wife is not afraid of him at all. In fact, she keeps ...
Shen Heng obediently left the room, closing the door behind him, and then drew cool water from the well to wash himself.
After a day of harvesting wheat, the straw dust flies around and settles all over you, making you feel very itchy.
Chen Heng simply rinsed and wiped, washing very quickly, while Bai Jiaojiao was much more meticulous.
The sound of water could be heard inside the room, and Shen Heng waited outside with his back to the door.
He crossed his arms and looked up at the moon, which was like a crescent moon, just like Bai Jiaojiao's eyes when she smiled.
Shen Heng touched the corners of his mouth that had inexplicably turned up again and shook his head.
It's unbelievable how deeply he could fall for someone.
But it felt pretty good.
"Brother Heng, I'm all packed."
Bai Jiaojiao's voice came from inside.
Shen Heng entered the room with a distracted mind. Seeing that she had already changed her clothes, a trace of regret flashed through his heart. He took away the water that Bai Jiaojiao had washed with: "Go to sleep quickly, you have to go to work at six o'clock tomorrow."
"I'll wait for Heng-ge to sleep together."
Shen Heng's eyes darkened: "Little vixen, I've been harvesting wheat all day, are you trying to seduce me?"
"That's not what I meant, I'm not a vixen..."
When Shen Heng returned after pouring the water, he found that Bai Jiaojiao had already closed her eyes. She was exhausted after a long day and fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
"Little liar." Shen Heng affectionately stroked Bai Jiaojiao's hair and then lay down beside her.
Bai Jiaojiao slept so soundly that she didn't even hear the loudspeaker announcing the start of work the next day, and Shen Heng didn't wake her up when he left.
When she woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.
"Heng-ge is really..."
Bai Jiaojiao lay slumped on the kang (a heated brick bed), her waist and calves aching from a day's work.
That's how it was in her past life. Shen Heng was completely indulgent towards her, even letting her stay at home when it came to such a big event as harvesting.
But having been reborn, she will no longer be as willful as she was in her previous life.
Bai Jiaojiao got up, mixed cornmeal and wheat flour together, added a starter, and covered it to ferment.
He took some white beans from home, went to the white family's house, grabbed a handful of mung beans, and cooked a pot of mung bean soup.
Bai Jiaojiao went to great lengths to carry it home and submerge it in the well to keep it cold.
While she was at it, Bai Jiaojiao cut up some pork belly and marinated it, and then cleaned up the house inside and out.
By this time, the mung bean soup had cooled down enough. Bai Jiaojiao poured the mung bean soup into a thermos and carried the bowl up the mountain.
Bai Jiaojiao didn't come to work today, which didn't surprise anyone at all.
At noon, everyone saw Bai Jiaojiao carrying a thermos up the mountain.
Bai Shiqing frowned, "This silly girl, in this sweltering heat, she still brings us hot water?"
Upon hearing Bai Shiqing's words, Shen Heng turned around and saw Bai Jiaojiao carrying a thermos in one hand and a basket in the other, walking carefully along the mountain path.
He wiped the sweat from his face with his cufflinks, and his gaze softened considerably as he looked at Bai Jiaojiao.
"Heng-ge, I brought you some mung bean soup! It was chilled in the well, so it's especially refreshing!"
Bai Jiaojiao announced the good news from afar, and upon hearing it, Bai Shiqing's face immediately relaxed: "Ah, it's still good to have a sister!"
She went down to pick it up happily, but Bai Jiaojiao said shyly, "I picked the mung beans from our house."
"You didn't need to report the use of a handful of mung beans, Jiaojiao, you've done a great job!"
Deng Min thought to herself, "Why didn't you think of cooking some mung bean soup and bringing it over?"
The sun is shining brightly now, and it doesn't look like it's going to rain heavily every two days.
Even if they left the water under the shade of a tree, it would have cooled to lukewarm by the morning, and drinking even a little bit wouldn't quench their thirst.
Upon hearing Bai Jiaojiao mention mung bean soup, saliva immediately welled up under her tongue.
Bai Jiaojiao poured a bowl first and presented it to Shen Heng, saying, "Brother Heng, take a rest."
This was the first time in Shen Heng's life that he had ever drunk mung bean soup.
Reaching out to take the icy cold bowl, Shen Heng noticed the few pitiful mung beans at the bottom: "Here's a dollar and eighty cents for your older brother. Next time, put in more mung beans."
"If you put in too much, won't it just turn into porridge?"
Bai Jiaojiao laughed at Shen Heng for being so arrogant, but Shen Heng glared at her and said, "Just let me put in as much as I told you to. Don't be so stingy."
Shen Heng took a sip; it was sweet and cool. As he swallowed it down his throat, he could feel how the mung bean soup went down into his stomach, and he immediately felt refreshed.
"I'm not stingy at all; I put plenty of candy in."
Seeing Bai Jiaojiao's proud, upturned face, Shen Heng's lips curled up, and he licked his still sweet lips.
"How much did you cook? Is it enough? Pour me another bowl."
"There's plenty!"
Bai Jiaojiao took the bowl from Shen Heng, smiled sweetly, and turned to pour him a new one.
Watching Bai Jiaojiao obediently follow his orders, Shen Heng felt a toothache of envy.
I really envy him; he has such a high status in the family!
Bai Jiaojiao poured Shen Heng another bowl of mung bean soup and left the thermos under the shade of the tree.
A thermos can keep water warm, so even if you drink it a while later, it will still be cold, which is much better than water from a glass bottle.
"Sister-in-law, I'm making dough at home, and I'll steam buns for lunch. The dishes are also ready. You and my second sister can go home and rest later!"
"No need, no need, we'll do it ourselves at home!"
No matter how good the relationship is, you can't eat plain flour for several days in a row with someone else.
Deng Min was unwilling, but found that Bai Jiaojiao ignored her completely, waved her hand and left.
"This child has absolutely no sense of how to manage a household," Deng Min said, deeply worried.
Bai Jiaojiao is not incapable of managing her household affairs.
She suffered more hardships in her past life than Deng Min.
However, she had already figured out how to make money, so she didn't want to skimp on food for herself and Shen Heng.
