"Mom, believe me, I really didn't do it!" Ding Shifang turned to her mother and said.

Ding's mother looked at Bai Jiaojiao and said, "Mom knows you and Shifang have a conflict, but she's timid, how could she do such a thing? Have you misunderstood?"

In Ding's mother's eyes, Ding Shifang was a good-for-nothing who wouldn't say a word even after being beaten three times. It wasn't that she favored Ding Shifang, but rather that she didn't believe Ding Shifang had the guts or the cunning to do such a thing.

Hearing that Ding's mother believed in him, Ding Shifang felt somewhat relieved.

She asked Wu She for a favor, so of course she didn't leave any evidence. Even if Wu She talked until his lips were sore, she wouldn't be implicated.

Bai Jiaojiao glanced at Ding's mother and Ding Shifang, who was clearly unconcerned, and felt a strange mix of emotions welling up inside her.

Ding Shifang has probably chosen the wrong career path. She shouldn't have wanted to be a singer; she should have pursued a career as a movie star. Her acting skills completely fooled Ding's parents, who actually thought she was a harmless little lamb.

A moment later, Ding Shifang was called in for questioning. Ding's mother sat next to Bai Jiaojiao, wanting to talk to her: "Jiaojiao, which university did you get into? Are you used to living at school? Why don't you come home to live? I'll have your dad's driver take you to school in the morning."

Ding's mother wasn't unaware of Bai Jiaojiao's cold attitude towards her, but in her memory, Bai Jiaojiao was still that delicate daughter who was easily angered and loved to act spoiled, but could be easily coaxed.

“When I left the Ding family, didn’t you already agree that the Ding family only had one daughter, Ding Shifang, and you don’t need to call me your father or mother anymore?”

Bai Jiaojiao slightly distanced herself from Ding's mother. Facing Ding's mother, she couldn't bring herself to call her "Auntie," but she couldn't bring herself to call her "Mom."

Her coldness startled Ding's mother, who then showed a very sad expression.

"Jiaojiao, after all these years, are you still angry about what happened back then?"

Xu Yue rolled her eyes and pulled Bai Jiaojiao, saying, "Jiaojiao, let's go outside and wait for the results!"

Shu Manling said worriedly, "But I'm afraid that you won't be able to do anything to her today, and that it will only embolden her."

Bai Jiaojiao had two options in mind. One was that now that reform and opening up had begun, these state-owned factories would be impacted one after another in two years. Light industries like the cannery where Ding's father worked were the easiest to be replaced, and she didn't mind letting the cannery close down ahead of time.

Even though Ding's father lost his job, a starved camel is still bigger than a horse. A man like Ding Shifang, even if he is in the mud, will still struggle to reach out and drag others down with him.

Bai Jiaojiao preferred to teach Ding Shifang a lesson directly. Given what she had done in her previous life, spending a lifetime in prison would be too lenient; being executed a hundred times wouldn't be excessive.

Bai Jiaojiao couldn't help but recall the scene of Shen Heng's car accident in her previous life, and her hands involuntarily clenched.

"Don't be afraid, we're here, we won't let her hurt you," Shu Manling said, trying to comfort Bai Jiaojiao when she noticed her unusual expression.

Ding's mother still cared about Ding Shifang. Seeing her come out, she asked, "How did it go? Officer, has this matter been investigated and resolved? It has nothing to do with my daughter, right?"

Mrs. Ding breathed a sigh of relief. That's good. Their Ding family couldn't afford to lose face like that.

Ding Shifang, standing to the side, looked at Bai Jiaojiao and smiled victoriously.

Xu Yue was right next to Bai Jiaojiao when she saw Ding Shifang's sarcastic and strange behavior. She couldn't help but want to tear her apart.
