Shen Heng, the village bully of Shili Village, has a fierce and intimidating persona.
To everyone's surprise, his newly wedded little wife is not afraid of him at all. In fact, she keeps ...
Shen Heng's sudden humor left Bai Jiaojiao speechless.
The couple across the street gave the little boy some water, hugged him, and said, "Quickly say thank you to your sister and uncle."
"Thank you, sister. Thank you, uncle."
Yang Fenglin: "Pfft..."
Shen Heng: "..."
Bai Jiaojiao: "......"
Yang Fenglin couldn't help but laugh in a rather inappropriate way.
Seeing the three people's reactions, the couple opposite them didn't know what they had said wrong.
"We're so sorry, comrade, we don't know how to apologize to you," the mother said, bowing her head and rummaging through her bag. She pulled out a cloth bag full of round fruits. When she opened it, it was a bag of plums, about ten or so, all bright red. "Please take them and eat them, don't be shy. Thank you so much this time."
Bai Jiaojiao said, "It was nothing, you don't need to worry about it."
Neither of them liked sour food, so neither of them reached for it. Yang Fenglin, however, took one, took a bite, and his whole face scrunched up. But the irritation he felt from the car ride lessened a bit.
Seeing Yang Fenglin's expression, the mother said apologetically, "These plums grew on a plum tree in front of our house; they are a little sour."
"It's alright, it's alright."
Yang Fenglin couldn't stop drooling, and his voice even changed when he spoke.
The three of them endured the night on the train. The train finally arrived at Yancheng Station the next day. After getting off the train, the people arranged by Yang Changping were already there. They drove Bai Jiaojiao and Shen Heng home first, and then went to take Yang Fenglin home.
This was the most convenient trip they had ever taken from the station home, saving them a lot of bumpy travel.
When they got home, they happened to run into Bai Shiqing, who had come to drop off her child before going to work, and was now feeding Bai Doudou at their house.
"sister!"
"Jiaojiao, you're finally back! I heard a car just now, but I didn't expect it to be you."
"Second Sister." Yang Fenglin was in a hurry to get home, so he didn't get out of the car. He greeted Bai Shiqing and then drove off with the car.
"You've brought all these bags and packages." Bai Shiqing was initially frightened by Bai Jiaojiao, but after receiving the letter and learning that it was a misunderstanding caused by Wang Fushun, she was relieved.
However, Bai Jiaojiao did not return, and Bai Shiqing could not help but worry about her. Now that she saw her return safely, Bai Shiqing was finally relieved.
"Zhuzhou is such a great place, sis. There's still some stuff I bought for you here. Wait a moment, I'll find the things I bought for you and your husband!"
"Why bother coming all this way? There's nothing bad in Yancheng."
"That's really different."
If Yancheng really had such a complete range of goods, Shen Heng's business wouldn't be doing well.
Bai Jiaojiao bought Bai Shiqing a brown knee-length dress and a pair of small leather shoes: "I remember we both wear the same size shoes. I tried them on and they fit, so you should be able to wear them too."
"Why are you buying leather shoes? I'm always running around, wearing these shoes would be a waste."
Bai Shiqing was happy, but she scolded Bai Jiaojiao for wasting money.
"Sister, what are you saying? Look at what I bought for Yangyang and Xiaoyun. The clothes over there are mostly imported, and the styles are not commonly seen here."
Bai Jiaojiao bought a pair of matching shirts for Li Yang and Li Yun. Li Yang's shirt was red, and Li Yun's was light yellow. Bai Shiqing touched the fabric and exclaimed, "They really are quite nice; they're good quality."
"And this bag, it's all for the two of them. I bought a lot for them, but they're all small things. I bought my brother-in-law a top hat, but it doesn't fit him right now. He can wear it with his trench coat in the fall."
Bai Shiqing chuckled as she took the grey top hat Bai Jiaojiao handed her: "He's also wearing a trench coat."
Bai Jiaojiao put these things in a woven bag and asked Bai Shiqing to take them away.
"Little sister, I'm really happy, but you don't need to buy us any next time. Life is so much better now than before, and your sister doesn't follow these trends."
"Sister, you're my sister. I can't help but think of you when I'm out."
"What you said almost brought tears to my eyes. I don't have time to chat with you today, I have to rush to work. You just got back, so hurry up and get ready to rest and bring Little Stone back."
After Bai Jiaojiao saw Bai Shiqing off, she saw Shen Heng feeding Bai Doudou. It was leftover food from the train journey when they lost their appetite. Bai Doudou had an insatiable appetite; having just eaten one meal, it continued to bite its tail and eat heartily when Shen Heng fed it again.
"Heng-ge, please feed him less, what if he gets sick from overeating?"
"I've never heard of a dog getting sick from overeating. I'll take it for a walk after it finishes eating."
"Heng-ge, let's take a good nap. We'll go to godmother's house to pick up Xiao Shitou this afternoon."
"It won't make a difference if we wait a little longer."
"Okay, then you take it out. I'll pack my things at home."
After the two divided the tasks, Shen Heng put Bai Doudou on a leash and left. Bai Doudou was overjoyed. During the few days that Bai Jiaojiao was away from home, Bai Shiqing would only come over once in the morning and once in the evening to let him relieve himself in the small garden outside, and then he would be locked up at home for the whole day.
Having not taken a walk in a long time, Bai Doudou's four little legs tumbled along with cheerful steps. Sometimes she dragged Shen Heng along quickly, and sometimes she rubbed against Shen Heng's legs, the rope almost tripping Shen Heng.
"You better behave yourself."
Shen Heng chuckled, and Bai Doudou behaved obediently for a second before starting to rub against him again.
They walked around the residential area before returning. When Bai Doudou came back, she was incredibly cheerful and went up to Bai Jiaojiao to let her touch her.
Now, Bai Jiaojiao has to steady herself before she can hold Bai Doudou, or she has to sit on the sofa and let it jump into her lap. Bai Doudou is no longer the same dog that she could lift with one hand.
Bai Jiaojiao leaned closer and sniffed the fluffy head: "DouDou smells a bit, we need to give it a bath."
Bai Jiaojiao washes Bai Doudou's face and brushes its fur every day at home, but Bai Shiqing certainly doesn't have the time to serve a dog like an ancestor. Bai Doudou, being a dog at home, doesn't care about its appearance and is unsurprisingly smelly.
The two washed their hands and faces, then went to bed on the kang (a heated brick bed). After Bai Doudou had eaten and walked around, and the house was quiet, she lay down on the sofa and soon started snoring softly.
Through the door, Shen Heng hugged Bai Jiaojiao: "Your sister is really carefree. She's snoring quite loudly. We've been working hard all day and haven't fallen asleep yet, but she's already asleep."
Bai Jiaojiao bit him when she heard him talking nonsense again: "Did I stop you from sleeping? I'm going to pick up Xiao Shitou this afternoon. You go find Wang Fushun. Can you trust your goods without seeing them for yourself?"
“I’ll go with you. We’ve been traveling for so long, we need to visit my godmother.”
Bai Jiaojiao always felt that Shen Heng was actually very good at handling things, but only with people he respected. In front of her elders, Shen Heng was never lacking in manners; he not only showed proper etiquette but also genuinely cared about them.
