The county's public security bureau wasn't much bigger; when the police officers heard that someone had arrested human traffickers, they all came out.

"Are they human traffickers?"

Bai Jiaojiao explained the incident to the police officers in detail: "We met a woman looking for her child near the scrap metal recycling station. She said her son was five or six years old and wearing a little yellow jacket, and asked us to keep an eye out for him. I noticed these two people acting strangely in the car. Their clothes and appearance clearly indicated they didn't come from the same family as the child, so I became suspicious. Plus, the child was wearing a little yellow jacket, so my husband and I asked them a couple of questions. They didn't have any identification on them and tried to run away, so we concluded they were child traffickers."

When Bai Jiaojiao mentioned "lover," Shen Heng raised an eyebrow.

That nickname is so cheesy, how come he likes it so much?

Bai Jiaojiao explained the situation very clearly, and the senior police officer in charge gave a wink to the police officer next to him: "Take these two people and interrogate them."

Having been a policeman for so many years, he could tell at a glance that these two were indeed criminals.

For the past two months, I don't know what's going on, but five children have gone missing one after another. I don't know if it was all done by this group of people.

He then looked at the child in Bai Jiaojiao's arms: "How is the child?"

"Comrade, I think we need to take them to the hospital!"

Bai Jiaojiao wanted to do good deeds anonymously, but Captain Lu said, "When you come to report a case, you have to register your information before you leave. That's the procedure."

Since that's what they said, Bai Jiaojiao couldn't do anything about it.

She registered her marriage with Shen Heng and thought that if she could get a letter of commendation from the county public security bureau, Shen Heng's file would look better.

Captain Lu looked at their address, which read Shili Village Brigade, Hushan Commune, and clicked his tongue in surprise: "Your home is so far from here."

"We've come to buy some things."

Captain Lu then noticed the basket behind Shen Heng overflowing with textbooks.

"So how are you going to get back now?"

"Let's see if we can hitch a ride in the same direction. If not, we'll find a guesthouse to stay in."

Having identification in hand means I'm not worried about not having a place to stay.

If Shen Heng were alone, he could walk home under the stars and moon, but the key is that Bai Jiaojiao is there. How could he bear to let his delicate little wife walk home in the dark?

"Okay, I'll go ask around and see if there are any buses going to Hushan Town. I can give you a ride on the way!"

Captain Lu is a veteran police officer whose job is to serve the people. In addition, these two people solved a big problem for their bureau, so he is very grateful to them.

Later, Captain Lu somehow contacted a tractor that was delivering goods to the city, and had the two of them ride with it.

Even something as simple as pledging grain can't be done peacefully.

"Look at you, comrade, those two have done a great job this time!" said the tractor driver who brought them off. "These two caught a human trafficker on the bus, which is why they missed their train. The head of the Public Security Bureau came to me and asked me to bring them back."

"Human traffickers, child traffickers?"

As everyone sized up Shen Heng, they suddenly realized that his burly physique made him quite reassuring if he were to follow the right path.

"Come in and have a drink of water before you leave," Bai Jiaojiao asked the tractor driver.

After the tractor drove away, the gossipy people gathered around, wanting to find out what had happened.

Shen Heng reached out to stop him: "What are you doing? What time is it? Are you expecting us to stand outside telling you stories without eating or drinking? You have no shame."

Just because someone does a good deed doesn't mean they've reformed.

Shen Heng's fierce and stern expression made those who had come to watch shudder, and they dared not ask any more questions.

Bai Jiaojiao breathed a sigh of relief, unlocked the door, and felt a sense of relief; she was finally home.

"Heng-ge, put your things down quickly, you must be exhausted from the journey."

If Bai Jiaojiao had known it would be this complicated, she wouldn't have bought so many things.
