Chapter 140 Dawn

Initially, Zhao Ziming wasn't swayed by Han Lin's words. In her heart, her refusal was the best choice for Han Lin. But Han Lin, knowing the truth, stood outside Zhao Ziming's house for an entire day, from night to day and back again. The usually rainy city was unusually sunny that day; the sun seemed to be deliberately scorching Han Lin.

However, thanks to the scorching sun, just as Han Lin was about to collapse, the door was finally opened. It was now the evening of the second day. Han Lin looked at Zhao Ziming standing in front of him, smiled, and said, "You finally opened the door."

After saying this, Han Lin, who hadn't eaten or drunk anything all day, nearly collapsed from exhaustion. Zhao Ziming supported him with one hand, barely managing to keep him upright. At that moment, Dean Fu Ju also ran out of the house and helped Han Lin inside.

Han Lin and Zhao Zimo sat facing each other in silence. After a few minutes, Dean Fu Ju brought a glass of water and a bowl of noodles to Han Lin.

"Put everything aside for now and eat something first," Dean Fu Ju urged, pushing the noodles towards Han Lin.

Han Lin glanced at Zhao Ziming, then at Dean Fu Ju, and nodded. Having not eaten all day, Han Lin was truly starving. He picked up the bowl of noodles in front of him and slurped them down in a few mouthfuls. Finally, he downed the entire glass of water beside him.

When Dean Fu Ju saw Han Lin's appearance, she asked kindly, "Little Lin, would you like another bowl?"

Han Lin put down his water glass, looked at Dean Fu Ju, and shook his head. "Dean, so you're Zhao Zimo's mother." Han Lin had heard Zhao Zimo call out "Mom" when he knocked on the door yesterday. Now that he thought about it, that title could only be applied to Dean Fu Ju.

Upon hearing Han Lin's words, Dean Fu Ju no longer intended to hide anything from her. She nodded and said, "Yes, Zi Mo is my biological daughter. It's just that back then I was alone..."

“Dean, I understand.” Han Lin immediately interrupted Dean Fu Ju, stopping her from recalling her unpleasant past.

Dean Fu Ju nodded and said, "Then you and Zi Mo have a good chat. I'm going to buy some groceries." After saying that, Dean Fu Ju tidied up the bowl of noodles and went out the door.

Han Lin looked around the house; it was clean and tidy. However, the old facilities looked like they wouldn't withstand much wind and rain, a common problem with old houses.

"How have you been these past years?" These were the first words Han Lin spoke. He then chuckled and continued, "I'm so stupid. You have leukemia, how could you possibly get better?"

Zhao Ziming glanced at Han Lin but didn't say anything more.

Han Lin sighed and looked at Zhao Ziming, continuing, "Back in college, your attitude towards me suddenly changed, and you even went so far as to use the pretense of falling in love with someone else to trick me into leaving you. The main reason was probably because you knew you had an illness, right?"

The answer was already obvious, but Han Lin still wanted to hear Zhao Ziming admit it herself. Zhao Ziming, however, just looked at Han Lin, her eyes misting over.

"And also, I saw you at the hospital the other day. To make me believe you were married, you actually kissed a man you didn't love? Zhao Zimo, I don't know how much I truly love you. But I know you don't love me as much as I think." Han Lin said, recalling the grievances he had suffered over the years. In Han Lin's memory, he had only cried once, on the day his parents passed away. But because of Zhao Zimo, Han Lin seemed to have cried many times, even though he was always alone when he cried.

Zhao Ziming didn't know how to answer Han Lin's questions, so she could only purse her pale and chapped lips and open her mouth slightly.

“I understand your good intentions. You feel like you’ve become a burden to me.” Han Lin didn’t have the patience to wait for Zhao Zimo to speak and started talking again. Over the years, Han Lin had met many people, but no one had ever made him feel comfortable confiding all his joys and sorrows like Zhao Zimo.

Han Lin took a deep breath, trying her best to hold back the tears welling up in her eyes. "So, you made the choice for me. You chose to leave me because you thought that way I could have a better life."

At this point in Han Lin's sentence, Zhao Ziming choked up twice before finally speaking: "Since you understand everything, then why can't you..."

"Yes! I understand! But I don't accept it!" Han Lin interrupted Zhao Ziming before she could finish speaking, becoming agitated. "Most of my life was no longer under my own control until I met you. I always thought you were the tiny part of my life that I could control. But why did you make choices for me? Why did you decide for me what would be a better life for me? Zhao Ziming! The reason you made this choice is still because you don't trust me, still because you don't love me enough!"

Zhao Ziming nodded and continued, "Yes, I admit I made the choice for you. I also agree with what you said; maybe I really didn't love you that much. That's why I let you leave my life."

"But I can't back out now. Because I know that I've made up my mind about you for the rest of my life." After saying that, Han Lin could no longer control his emotions, covered his eyes with his hands, and cried like a child.

Han Lin quickly regained his composure, grabbed Zhao Zimo's hand, and said, "Zhao Zimo, everyone's time in this world is different. What if some people can live for a hundred years? If they don't even meet their true love in those hundred years, then I would rather exchange the rest of my life for the right to walk with you to the end."

Zhao Ziming couldn't hold back her tears any longer, but with her right hand tightly held by Han Lin, she could only wipe them away with her left. After a while, Zhao Ziming looked at Han Lin and said, "If you have me as a burden, you'll have a very hard life in the future. I hope you won't regret it."

Hearing Zhao Ziming's words, Han Lin was momentarily stunned, hesitant to guess the meaning behind them. "Ziming, what do you mean?" Han Lin asked, still holding Zhao Ziming's hand.

Zhao Zimo didn't say anything, she just nodded.

"When you truly fall in love, there's no room for regret. From now on, I'll be your greatest joy," Han Lin replied happily to Zhao Zimo.

"Han Lin..." Zhao Ziming looked at Han Lin and called his name. "Even if I can't be with you through all four seasons..."

Before Zhao Ziming could finish speaking, Han Lin shook his head again. "Time has no meaning for us. From now on, every minute and every second of our lives is a lifetime."

After several years of twists and turns, Zhao Ziming finally accepted Han Lin. For Han Lin, this was another ray of new dawn in his gloomy life. But how long would this dawn shine on Han Lin?
