A tragic childhood under the shadow of a stepfather, a desolate love that could never be, a clown-masked man in a late-night alley, the crisp moonlight, and the cold blade.
Oh, and the waiter...
Wang Shen held the recorder and glanced at Xu Xiaolin. Xu Xiaolin didn't say much, but her eyes kept glancing at the recorder.
Wang Shen glanced at the recorder and then pressed the play button. A moment later, Lin Su's voice came through the recorder. The recorder contained Lin Su's account of his past with Han Mo, and the details of how he ultimately murdered her. The story began many years ago…
Six years ago, Han Mo's novel writing career was just getting on track. Benefiting from the best-selling novels and her growing popularity, Han Mo established her own studio. After the studio was established, Han Mo urgently needed an assistant to help her handle some daily affairs and arrange some schedules.
At this moment, Lin Su appeared before Han Mo. Han Mo had forgotten why she had chosen Lin Su from among the many applicants. Lin Su's educational background wasn't particularly high; perhaps she had chosen him because of his handsome appearance, or perhaps because his simple attire made her feel a sense of familiarity.
Regardless, it turned out that Lin Su performed his daily work exceptionally well. He also handled Han Mo's schedule arrangements very well. Days passed by at a leisurely pace until one day, Han Mo's attitude towards Lin Su completely changed.
Although Han Mo was already a somewhat well-known suspense novelist, he still couldn't avoid various dinner invitations. One evening, Han Mo staggered out of a restaurant. It started to rain, and the rain seemed to be getting heavier. Han Mo didn't drive or take a taxi, but instead strolled along the alley in front of the restaurant in the rain.
After walking for a short while, Han Mo suddenly quickened her pace, found a secluded corner, and vomited. Han Mo leaned against the wall with one hand, clutching her chest with the other. Often, Han Mo felt very tired. This tiredness was different from the physical and mental exhaustion of ordinary people; it was a loneliness born of solitude.
Han Mo vomited violently for a while, then wiped her mouth with one hand while gripping her backpack with the other, trying to find a pack of tissues. However, her hand seemed to have lost its strength, wobbling unsteadily. After a long while, Han Mo still couldn't find the tissues in her bag.
Just then, the rain suddenly stopped. Han Mo looked at the wet ground, feeling something was off. Just as she was wondering, a tissue appeared in her line of sight. Han Mo stared at the hand offering the tissue, then looked up at the umbrella over her head, and finally turned to look at the person holding the umbrella.
Han Mo took the tissue from Lin Su and wiped her mouth while asking, "Didn't I tell you not to wait for me? Why are you still here?"
Lin Su did not answer Han Mo's question, but said, "It's raining, let me take you home."
After speaking, Han Mo glanced at Lin Su, but did not refuse; instead, she nodded slightly. Lin Su helped the swaying Han Mo, hailed a taxi by the roadside, and drove directly back to Han Mo's home.
Han Mo somehow drifted off to sleep, and Lin Su had to wake her up when they got off the bus. Han Mo lifted her head from Lin Su's shoulder and rubbed her eyes. Still quite drunk, Lin Su helped Han Mo stagger out of the bus.
What happened after that was a bit of a blur for Han Mo. She only remembered that when she woke up, Lin Su had already left the room. Han Mo glanced at her clothes; apart from her rain-soaked coat, everything else was exactly as it had been the night before.
Han Mo tapped her head and stumbled out of her room. To her surprise, she found a prepared breakfast on the dining table. A note was tucked under a glass of honey water. The note was from Lin Su, and it read: "Honey water can help with hangovers. Warm it up if it gets cold. There are no special plans at the studio today; you can rest. I'll contact you if anything comes up."
Han Mo touched the honey water; it was still lukewarm. She took a sip; it was very sweet. Lin Su had probably taken care of Han Mo all night after bringing her home last night, and then went to work early this morning after making breakfast. A subordinate taking care of their superior—this was probably a rare opportunity. But in Han Mo's heart, a warm feeling welled up without her realizing it. Perhaps it was because she was used to cloudy days; even a brief glimmer of sunshine made her feel warm.
That day, Han Mo didn't return to the studio but instead rested peacefully for the entire day. When she returned to the studio the next day, she seemed somewhat embarrassed to see Lin Su. Lin Su, however, reacted differently, maintaining his usual attitude.
Gradually, Han Mo got into the habit of secretly observing Lin Su. As she watched, her love for Lin Su grew stronger. When someone falls in love with another, the person being loved can always sense that love. And fate seemed to have created this opportunity for them.
Han Mo got drunk again, but this time, she took the initiative to call Lin Su for help. She was still confused about what had happened that night. However, the next morning, she found breakfast and honey water on her dining table again. Oh, and there was still a note under the honey water.
This time, however, the note read: "I wish to stand with you at dusk, I wish to ask if your porridge is warm." Han Mo looked at the words on the note and smiled. Han Mo clearly realized that she had fallen for him.
Finally, Han Mo and Lin Su confirmed their romantic relationship. Later, Han Mo discovered that Lin Su also wanted to pursue a career as a novelist, so she was willing to provide him with all the help she could. However, it was Lin Su who suggested that Han Mo find another assistant.
Lin Su's reasoning was simple. Han Mo was gradually becoming a star in the suspense novel world, and naturally, she had a large following of admirers. Faced with such fervent fans, Lin Su felt it would be better to keep their relationship a secret for the time being. Furthermore, Lin Su also confessed to Han Mo that even if his novels were eventually recognized by the public, he didn't want to be labeled "Han Mo."
Han Mo thought about Lin Su's words and realized they made a lot of sense. Thus, Han Mo and Lin Su's "secret relationship" began in earnest. If Lin Su had ever touched Han Mo in any way, there were many, but the most memorable was the surprise he arranged for her on her birthday.
Lin Su was a meticulous person. To continue concealing their relationship, all the birthday surprises were arranged at upscale restaurants with few people. All of this made Han Mo, who had never experienced much warmth before, completely devoted to Lin Su.
Lin Su got what he wanted; his first two novels sold quite well with Han Mo's help. However, everything changed after Han Mo revealed her childhood experiences to Lin Su. Han Mo could sense that Lin Su seemed to have become somewhat distant. But, not long after, Lin Su's enthusiasm suddenly returned.
