Oh, and the waiter...

Chapter Sixty-Two: A Messy List of Numbers

After listening to Han Lin's words, Wang Shen frowned slightly. Wang Shen couldn't agree with Han Lin's explanation. Regardless of Qi Huan and A Cheng's relationship, A Cheng should normally leave his waiter position. Moreover, based on Wang Shen's analysis, Qi Huan and A Cheng's relationship seemed good, or even very good.

Wang Shen's reasoning for this conclusion is simple. First, Qi Huan's open and high-profile admission of dating a younger waitress takes courage, especially for a woman. Attributing this behavior to Qi Huan's carefree personality is far-fetched. Even the most carefree woman wouldn't joke about her feelings. Furthermore, while Qi Huan is carefree, she's unlikely to be foolish. Although she doesn't directly participate in the restaurant's management, her performance suggests she's a capable woman.

Judging from when Qi Huan and A Cheng met, two years have passed. Their relationship is still widely accepted, and there haven't been any reports of a breakup. Even in a relationship where both partners are equal, maintaining a relationship for two years is no easy feat. Wang Shen believes that only the feelings themselves can sustain a relationship. Therefore, based on these two points, Wang Shen infers that the female boss, Qi Huan, and A Cheng's relationship is likely quite good.

Wang Shen snapped out of his thoughts and looked at Han Lin, asking, "Manager Han, do all the employees in your store wear uniforms?"

“Yes. Not only do our employees wear uniforms, but each uniform also has their name embroidered on the chest. So each uniform is custom-made for them.” Han Lin briefly introduced the uniform system of “Spicy Restaurant”.

"After they finish get off work, do they take their work clothes with them or leave them at the store?"

"They all stay in the store; we provide each employee with a locker."

"Oh?" Wang Shen became interested in what Han Lin said. "They put their clothes in the closet after work every day, right?"

"Yes." Han Lin nodded.

"Manager Han, could you take me to see their cabinets now?" Wang Shen closed his notebook and stood up from his seat.

Han Lin immediately stood up from his seat, nodded at Wang Shen, and said, "Officer Wang, come with me."

Han Lin led the way, winding through several turns until they reached the end of a corridor. "There are two changing rooms here. This one is for female employees, and the male employees' room is the one against the wall," Han Lin pointed to a room not far ahead, then led Wang Shen inside.

Wang Shen walked into the changing room and took a look. The layout of the changing room was not much different from that of a typical bathroom changing room. There were two rows of metal cabinets against the walls on both sides, and a long wooden bench in the middle.

"Which cabinet is Acheng's?" Wang Shen asked, looking at Han Lin.

"That's it," Han Lin said, pointing to a cabinet not far ahead.

Wang Shen walked to Acheng's cabinet and glanced at the number "16" on it. He then looked at the four numbers above, below, to the left, and to the right of Acheng: "25," "36," "17," and "5." Wang Shen stared at these numbers for a long time, unable to find any pattern in their arrangement. "Manager Han, aren't these numbers on the cabinet arranged in ascending order?" Finally, Wang Shen could only ask Han Lin for clarification.

“Yes. Officer Wang, please take a look at all the other cabinets.” Han Lin said, pointing to the other cabinets.

Wang Shen glanced at the remaining cabinets and found that the numbers on each cabinet were different and not arranged in any order.

"Our store follows a humanistic spirit. Haha, in our boss's words, it means that while adhering to basic company rules, we can provide as much humanistic care as possible for our employees. Therefore, the numbers on the cabinet doors are all lucky numbers chosen by the employees themselves. When they join the company, they choose a lucky number for their cabinet. That's why the numbers on each cabinet are so different." Han Lin explained to Wang Shen with a smile, explaining the reason for the seemingly random arrangement of numbers.

"Don't people usually use these cabinets?" After listening to Han Lin's explanation, Wang Shen nodded and then pointed to the open cabinet doors and asked.

"There are far more lockers here than employees. So only the lockers with numbers have their corresponding owners. Of course, there are also a few people who have left the company. Since there are so many lockers, those numbers haven't been changed."

Wang Shen casually closed one of the open cabinet doors and noticed the number "66" written on it. "Did the owner of this cabinet also leave the company?" Wang Shen asked, pointing to the cabinet labeled "66".

Han Lin glanced at the cabinet in front of Wang Shen, smiled, and shook his head. "No, the owner of this cabinet is still employed. Officer Wang, you see many of these numbered cabinets here; most of them actually belong to our current employees. But they usually don't lock them, so the doors are left open."

Wang Shen nodded again, then turned his gaze to cabinet door number "16". Unlike the other cabinet doors, cabinet door number "16" was tightly closed. Cabinet door number "17" to the left and cabinet door number "5" to the right of number "16" were also tightly closed. "Does Acheng usually lock this cabinet?"

Hearing Wang Shen's question, Han Lin stared at Acheng's cabinet for a couple of seconds, then shook his head thoughtfully. "Officer Wang, I really don't know whether Acheng usually locks his cabinet."

Wang Shen looked at the cabinet, then turned his gaze to Han Lin: "Do you have the key to this cabinet now?"

Han Lin gave a wry smile upon hearing Wang Shen's question, then shook his head. "Officer Wang, each cabinet only has one key, and the key is kept by the employee themselves. This is a rule set by our boss, to respect each employee's privacy."

Wang Shen nodded, took two steps back, and took out his phone to take a picture of the cabinet. After taking the picture, Wang Shen noticed a door at the far end of the cabinet. Wang Shen walked over and gently pushed it open; the door wasn't locked and opened easily. Wang Shen opened the door and looked inside. It was a small room of only a few square meters, containing only a shelf and a lonely showerhead hanging from the ceiling.

"This is the shower room we prepared for our employees. There are also changing rooms for both male and female employees." Han Lin followed behind Wang Shen and explained the function of the small room to him.

Does everyone use this bathroom to shower?

"We usually use it, mostly after get off work."

"What about Cheng? Does he often use this bathroom to shower?"

Han Lin considered for a moment before replying, "His work schedule is a bit different from the other employees. I mean, he doesn't use this bathroom after get off work. He has a habit of showering in the morning."
