Chapter 161 Temporary Stay for Recuperation

Because we arrived too late and weren't assigned rooms, we'll all sleep together tonight, using the sky as our blankets and the ground as our mats.

However, Wan'er wouldn't let the adults lie there like that. After they had all their wounds treated, she had Junjue bring out a lot of blankets and mats from his space so that they could make their beds before sleeping, to prevent them from catching a cold.

Everyone was probably too tired that night. Knowing that many people were keeping watch at the official shelter, everyone slept soundly, even the two dogs.

Today is the second day since Junjue and Wan'er arrived at the official shelter.

When they woke up in the morning, the hall was filled with the same black smog that had been there for days, so thick that they couldn't see their own hands in front of their faces.

Although the weather was difficult to adapt to, they gradually got used to it.

Yesterday, they arrived at the shelter very late and were suddenly attacked by mutated animals, so they didn't get any housing at all.

Looking at Wan'er, whose wounds were both new and old, the Duke felt sorry for her and suggested:

"Wan'er, you, the two dogs, and the four children are quite badly injured. Why don't we stay here for a while and leave once the four children have recovered?"

"Alright! Apart from you, we're all crippled soldiers. Even if we rush to the Gliding Ridge Refuge in the capital, we'll probably lose half our lives!" She was a little worried about the four children, so she could only wait until their injuries healed before making any decisions.

"Since Wan'er has no objections, we'll go to the shelter to get a house to live in later."

"good!"

The two of them discussed it and, seeing that everyone was awake, distributed some breakfast and ate with them until they were full.

So they decided to go to the official shelter administrators, hoping to be assigned a room of their own.

At the entrance of the simple management office, Junjue, along with Wan'er, their four children, and two dogs who had recovered their strength, lined up and saw dozens of long queues waiting.

These people also arrived at the shelter yesterday and, like them, have not found a place to stay.

They all looked on expectantly, hoping to resolve their accommodation problem as soon as possible.

Finally, it was Junjue and Wan'er's turn. They entered the office and saw a middle-aged woman busily distributing room keys and the locations of simple wooden huts.

"You arrived yesterday, right? I'm sorry to have kept you waiting so long," the middle-aged woman apologized with a smile. Her voice was warm and friendly.

Junjue nodded, glanced at his girlfriend beside him, and smiled expectantly.

Wan'er stood quietly to the side, her eyes revealing her confusion about the future.

The female manager handed a bunch of keys to Junjue, then pointed to a row of corners inside the shelter.

"You and the people you brought live in that row of small wooden houses."

Congratulations on finding your own house! These small wooden houses may look simple, but we've tried our best to provide the best conditions. We hope you're satisfied.

Upon hearing this, Wan'er's heart was filled with joy.

She walked eagerly toward the row of small wooden houses, followed by Junjue's two dogs and a group of people.

When Wan'er pushed open the door of the cabin, the scene before her surprised and delighted the nobleman who entered.

This is a simple yet cozy space, containing only a 1.5-meter wooden bed, a small wooden table, and a few low stools.

Although it was small, it was enough for them.

The room smelled of fresh wood. Although the conditions were simple, the two were overjoyed, for this was their temporary refuge.

"Wan'er, although this place is small and simple, it's really nice!" Junjue smiled and patted Wan'er's shoulder. The main reason was that she was living with the person she loved most.

Wan'er couldn't help but laugh. She walked to the window, drew back the curtains, and gazed at the world outside.

Although it was all darkness, she knew it was temporary. As long as the two of them were of one mind and worked together, they would surely be able to change the situation and usher in a better tomorrow.

"My Lord, we finally have a temporary home." Wan'er turned around, her eyes sparkling with hope.

Junjue nodded and held Wan'er's hand tightly. "Yes, we must cherish this opportunity, make ourselves stronger, and contribute to ourselves and our future."

"I wonder if the four little ones are happy. They seem to be right next door. Let's go check on them!" Wan'er said worriedly.

“Alright, let’s go take a look. We can’t be together all the time, so let’s leave them some extra food.”

After Junjue and Wan'er finished looking at their own room, they went hand in hand to check out the simple wooden house next door.

Upon reaching the door of the cabin, Junjue knocked, and a cheerful boy's voice quickly came from inside.

"Who is it? You can come in now."

The two pushed open the door and went inside. The cabin felt even more crowded, with four children sitting on the floor, holding some simple toys.

"Children, that is us."

"Sister Wan'er, Brother Jun, you've arrived!"

When they saw Junjue and Wan'er walk in, they immediately showed excited expressions.

"Brother Jun! Sister Wan'er! This place is great! We all love it!" another little boy exclaimed excitedly, clapping his hands.

"Brother Jun, Sister Wan'er, you've come! We've missed you so much!"

"We miss you too!" Wan'er smiled and knelt down to hug the little boy.

"I've known you all for so long, and I still don't know your names!"

"Please introduce yourselves to Sister Wan'er. What are your names?"

"Sister Wan'er, my name is Gu Zixuan."
