Ye Yunxi smiled and said to them.

"That's all? Is there anything else? Tell me all at once."

The man was ambitious, and when Ye Yunxi asked him a question, he boldly replied to her.

"Well... then we'll give each person 100 jin of vegetables and 200 jin of grain. That's all. If you feel bad, you can add some more yourself. We can still accept your apology."

"Yes, take more, we won't mind."

"Yes, give us more."

Fu Heng coldly observed this group of people, who were all using the death of their family members to extort supplies from others.

So he said to Ye Yunxi, "Xixi, let's just drive there. I don't believe they won't let us."

Ye Yunxi shook her head and said to him.

"Look at why these people won't let us through. Besides a few middle-aged women, there are only these two men in here. It's obvious that they have someone lying in ambush nearby, just waiting for us to drive over so they can really extort money from us."

Even if those who were lying in ambush hadn't lost any loved ones, there were still agreements in place to share the spoils once they got their hands on the grain.

Fu Heng suddenly realized that it was his fault for not considering things more thoroughly. A slight smile appeared on his lips as he praised her.

“My Xixi is much smarter and more capable than me. I’m not even as good as you now.”

Ye Yunxi said without blushing or skipping a beat.

"It's a small problem, a small problem, nothing serious."

Fu Heng held back his laughter; only she would speak to him like that.

A group of people in front of the car saw the people inside chatting and laughing and assumed they were discussing something.

The man asked loudly.

"Have you reached an agreement? When can you give us the grain and vegetables?"

Ye Yunxi turned her little head, stuck her head out, and said to them.

“What you’re saying is too much; we don’t have that much food right now.”

The group of people looked at each other in bewilderment, and then an older woman spoke up loudly.

"Hey, young lady, why are you going back on your word? You promised to give each of us two hundred catties of grain and one hundred catties of vegetables, why are you breaking your promise now?"

The others chimed in, "Yeah, didn't you agree? Why are you suddenly going back on your word?"

"That's right, you can't go back on your word, or you'll get your comeuppance sooner or later."

The man didn't participate in the others' criticisms of Ye Yunxi, and after thinking for a moment, he asked her.

"Are you short of food? If not, that's okay. What about the food you grew before? Did you sell it to the base? You can go to the base manager and buy it back and distribute it to us."

Ye Yunxi smiled but didn't say anything. It wasn't a secret that she grew grains; everyone around her knew.

But this person was quite considerate of her, even instructing her to go to the base commander to buy back the grain and then distribute it to them. Who do they think they are, to manipulate others at will and make them do what they say?

Ye Yunxi decided to play along with them and see who would be the most unlucky in the end. She pretended to be very troubled as she spoke.

"Looking for the base commander? But I don't know him well. I only know the base commander's assistant, but we're not very close."

The man noticed that Ye Yunxi was in a difficult position, so he offered her some advice.

"It's alright. If you don't know the base commander, don't bother with him. You're familiar with the base commander's assistant, so you can talk to him again. Tell him that you've run out of food, or that you owe us food, and ask him to buy some more for us. How does that sound?"

Ye Yunxi still looked very troubled.

"But..."

The man was extremely anxious and asked loudly.

"But what? Tell me! If there's anything wrong, we can discuss it. Just tell me what I can do to help you."

Ye Yunxi said with tears in her eyes.

"I've only spoken a few words to the base commander's assistant; we're not exactly close."

The man clapped his hands and breathed a sigh of relief.

"What's wrong with that? What's there to be afraid of after exchanging a few words? At worst, you know Captain Li, right? He's close to the base commander, so you can ask Captain Li to put in a good word for you."

Tsk tsk tsk, this guy is quite cunning. When they couldn't find the base chief, they went to the base chief's assistant, Zhou, and if that didn't work, they went to Li Yan.

This man must be the leader hiding in the shadows. He's the one who commands those who are in the shadows.

Ye Yunxi smiled slightly and said to the man.

"Thank you so much!"

The man said dismissively, "It's a small matter. As long as you can give us food, I can come up with any idea you want."

Ye Yunxi raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Is that so? Then I'd like to ask you to help me think of an idea."

The man thought Ye Yunxi had finally come to her senses, so he smiled and said to her.

"What is it? Tell me, and I'll give you an idea that I guarantee will satisfy you."

"Then help me think of a way to get you into the base's prison?" Ye Yunxi said with a smile.

The man said directly, "That's easy, we'll go ourselves." He immediately realized what was happening and started cursing at Ye Yunxi, "You tricked me!"

Ye Yunxi said with a playful tone, "How could I be playing a trick on you? I'm just stating the facts. Weren't you trying to give me advice? This problem is so difficult to solve, isn't it?"

The man was furious and loudly questioned Ye Yunxi.

"Oh! I see now, you've been lying to us from the very beginning, haven't you?"

She sighed and looked at Fu Heng.

"What do we do? They've realized what's happening, this isn't going to be fun anymore."

Fu Heng smiled. "Then let's play something more interesting."

It was only then that the group realized that everything Ye Yunxi and the others had said was a lie; they hadn't intended to compensate them with food at all, and they had been fooled all along.
