Reborn and Divorced: I'm Raising My Kids and Lying Low to Get Rich

Opening her eyes, Chen Hong was reborn. She was reborn just before she was about to take her children back to her parents' home. Not wanting to live a life of looking at others' faces for a...

Chapter 48 Companionship

I need to work even harder and earn enough to buy at least one house before the end of the year. Jinan's housing prices have been relatively stable this year, but they should be higher next year. Time is tight, and I need to race against housing prices this year.

The heavy rain lasted all night, only stopping near dawn. The sky was still overcast, and the air pressure was low. The puddles throughout the village had turned into ponds, and as dawn approached, the loud croaking of frogs could be heard everywhere, as if right next to our ears, breaking the tranquility of the small fishing village in the early morning.

After breakfast, Grandpa Yu came to pick up the child. Chen Hong asked him to stay and watch the house while she drove to Uncle Yang's brother-in-law's seafood shop in the city to sell fish.

I had already made an appointment in advance. The owner of the seafood shop was a very kind old man named Liu Quantian. He was over sixty years old, but he looked very young, like he was fifty-five or fifty-six.

Because it was a referral from an acquaintance, the price they offered was decent. It wasn't as high as the hotel's price, but it was still five or six yuan more per pound than what Liu Laohu was charging.

Chen Hong bought a fish from his shop for the first time, and Liu Quantian was very satisfied with the goods she delivered. They agreed that she could deliver fish to his shop at any time. If the quantity was large, the seafood shop could send a truck directly to the dock to pick up the goods.

They exchanged phone numbers, and Chen Hong went to the nearby Galaxy Supermarket. She bought some household items, as well as several hundred yuan worth of beef and ribs, and various seasonings.

It was 10 o'clock when she got home, and a light drizzle started to fall again. She let Grandpa Yang have lunch, then took him home. In the afternoon, Chen Hong started researching stocks online.

I bought several more stocks that had seen significant gains in my past life, and also invested another 500,000 yuan in the stocks I had initially selected. Today I spent a total of 550,000 yuan, leaving me with only 50,000 yuan in my bank account.

Fortunately, there aren't any major expenses coming up recently, and this money is enough for my daughter and me to cover our daily needs. Besides, we can always go out to sea to earn money, and once we sell most of our stocks next year, they will appreciate significantly, which is much better than keeping the money in the bank.

Chen Hong exited the stock trading page and shut down her computer. While playing checkers with her son, Xiao Hao and Wang Xin came over under one umbrella to find Yu Yang and start playing.

Chen Hong prepared fruit for the children and then left them to their own devices. The three children played checkers together and ate fruit. Two dogs also circled around the children's feet, licking their little toes, making the three friends jump for joy.

With nothing else to do, Chen Hong tidied up her wardrobe. She packed the clothes that she and Yu Yang no longer wore into a large bag, planning to put them in the clothing recycling bin on her way to the city.

None of her clothes were damaged. Chen Hong's old clothes were worn out because she was doing a lot of heavy physical labor and had used the space water, which made her lose weight and grow 5 centimeters taller without her realizing it. She was originally 163 centimeters tall, but now she is 168 centimeters tall.

Many of the clothes are too old to wear, and it seems a waste to throw them away. My son is growing so fast; it feels like we just bought them and washed them once, and now they're too small to wear them. These days, it's not customary to give them away; it's too wasteful.

I hope these clothes can be sent to remote mountainous areas and worn by impoverished children, instead of being trafficked abroad for profit, as was reported online in my previous life.

There's nothing I can do but accept it; I'm just a small fisherman, I can't control everything.

Chen Hong heard the children making a ruckus in the main room and went out to see what was happening. She found that the rain had stopped. The three children were discussing going to the beach to go beachcombing, and Xiao Hao and Wang Xin were urging Yu Yang to go with them.

Seeing that the children were in high spirits, and considering that they had been locked up for two days due to rain, and that the tide would come in at 6:48 this afternoon, there was still time to take the children to the beach for a while.

I called Xiaohao and Wangxin's mothers and arranged to meet them at the beach. I told the children to find the tools they needed for beachcombing, and each of them carried a small bucket, a small shovel, a small pair of tongs, and a small iron rake. I changed Yuyang's rubber boots and gave each of them a pair of rubber gloves.

Chen Hong led her small beachcombing team off to the sea in a grand procession. Walking along the village's cement road, the three mischievous boys deliberately stomped on the puddles with their rubber boots. Seeing the water splashing everywhere, they laughed and ran forward.

When they reached the next puddle, they eagerly stomped on it. The kids ran incredibly fast; it seems they'd been cooped up for days, and they were so happy to be out playing.

Chen Hong followed closely behind the children, and only breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Xiao Hao and Wang Xin's mother appear on the beach in the distance.

Xiao Hao's mother and Wang Xin's mother also brought several women from their neighborhood. It turned out they were all playing cards at Wang Xin's house, and when they received the call, they all came out to go beachcombing.

Chen Hong only felt relieved after handing Xiao Hao and Wang Xin over to their mother. The beach wasn't without its dangers, and she couldn't possibly keep an eye on three energetic children by herself.

With their mother around, Chen Hong felt much more relaxed. Each woman, with her child in tow, played on the beach while searching for valuable seafood.

Chen Hong's task today was simply to play with the children. The catch from beachcombing no longer excited her; she was a hunter who had seen big fish in the sea and didn't care about such a small gain.

Accompanied by her son, Yu Yang searched the beach. With his sharp eyes, he actually found quite a few good finds. Chen Hong helped him dig out more than a dozen large razor clams, each about the length of a hand, a small pile of clams, and even caught five or six mantis shrimps in a small puddle.

Chen Hong and Yu Yang didn't go too far, they just searched in clean and easy-to-walk places, not caring whether they found anything or not.

Xiao Hao and Wang Xin's mother walked a little further away, and from their loud chatter, it seemed they had a good haul.

At six o'clock, Chen Hong called everyone back, saying that the tide would come in in forty minutes, and it was best to leave early with the children. On the way, everyone showed off their catch; Xiao Hao and Wang Xin's mother had walked the farthest and had the most.
