Reborn as a New Farmer of the 1980s

Reborn during the early days of China’s reform and opening, the narrator finds himself in the 1980s countryside. In this setting, the past is still a cold reference, yet it is also a fresh start....

Chapter 2454: Escaping the Crisis

Man proposes, God disposes. The sudden shortage of chips caused chaos in Huaguang's production.

Because of sanctions, Huaguang's mobile phone chip manufacturing has fallen into trouble.

The Group only has Huaguang Electronics' monthly production capacity of 200,000 pieces left, which is more than 60% less than the supply.

Without chips, it is naturally impossible to make mobile phones.

After Gaotong stopped supplying chips, there is no chip processor of this level in China.

Looking abroad, there are currently only two places that can still process it, one is Han Guo San Sheng and the other is Taiji Dian.

Although some Japanese companies still have some chip production capabilities, their level is really not good enough.

Now you can only choose one agent from these two companies.

Ling Yunwei, general manager of Huaguang Technology, contacted Taiji Electric and showed them the drawings of the chips he had originally produced to see if they could produce them.

Since its establishment, Taiji Electric has mainly produced some low-end dedicated chips and has not developed to a large scale in recent years.

They and Sansheng were competing for Pingguo's chip manufacturing agency. After figuring out the ins and outs of the matter, they did not accept Huaguang's chip manufacturing task.

Sansheng also did not accept Huaguang's task.

As a result, the supply of Huaguang mobile phones is reduced to only 200,000 units per month.

This is not enough to meet domestic demand, let alone export.

Not only will it affect the popularity of mobile phones, but dealers will also face exorbitant compensation costs if they cannot supply products.

For a moment, Ling Yunwei was extremely anxious.

The military's mission must not be reduced. Wan Feng had no choice but to urge the expansion of Huaguang Communications and Huaguang Chip to be completed as soon as possible.

Although the expansion of production lines in these two places is nearing completion, it is still far from enough to quench immediate thirst.

If that doesn't work, you can only compensate for the losses.

It was then that Wan Feng realized that Huaguang's chip processing scale was still too small. In the future, mobile phones will face sales of tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of units a year. Huaguang's current production scale, even including the expanded scale, would not be able to do much.

You can’t even produce tens of millions of chips now. What will you use to build up production capacity in the 4G era?

We have to endure the current predicament. Fortunately, it will not last more than three months and will be alleviated by June or July.

Wan Feng has to plan for the future.

He acted decisively and bought a large piece of land next to Huangcheng Village in the Heijiao Development Zone. He wanted to build a chip manufacturing base here with an annual output of tens of millions of chips.

Nanwan Group's investments are mainly local, and those that can invest locally will naturally not go elsewhere.

Good things should be kept within the family. In this respect, Wan Feng is no different from others.

Benefiting the hometown remains the first option.

Now the Black Reef Development Zone and the Jiangwei Industrial Zone are almost connected, and there is no difference between investing in the Black Reef Development Zone and investing in the Jiangwei Industrial Zone.

This will become the largest chip manufacturing base in the north.

This land is half mountain and half land, with a total area of 2,000 acres. The total investment of the project is 3 billion yuan. It is expected that the first phase of the project will be partially put into production in three years and the entire project will be put into production in five years.

After the base is completed and put into production, its chip output will be sufficient to support China's domestic demand. In this way, the chips produced by Huaguang Electronics in Shanghai, Huaguang Chip in Shenzhen, and Huaguang Communications in Nanzui will be sufficient for overseas export products.

The next three months were very difficult.

In order to ensure the supply of foreign products, Ling Yunwei had to cut the supply of domestic smartphones.

Fortunately, these direct sellers all knew the group’s difficulties, and none of them asked for compensation.

The fact that they did not offer compensation to Nanwan does not mean that they did nothing. Huaguang gave them greater discounts on the sales of low-end mobile phones to make up for their losses in smartphone sales.

By early June, the first expansion project to be completed was at the Nanzuizi Huaguang Communications site. The monthly output of 500,000 pieces greatly eased Huaguang's chip supply.

In July, the expanded chip factory at the Huaguang Chip Base in Shenzhen was also completed.

The expanded area of this base in Shenzhen is relatively large, so Huaguang now has another source base for producing 800,000 chips per month, and the chip shortage crisis is finally solved.

It was at this time that iPhone was launched in the United States on June 29th.

Huaguang has opened up a new world in the field of smart phones, and iPhone has become a direct beneficiary. Although it does not support 3G network and cannot be copied and pasted, its price of 600 million yuan is almost the same as H5555.

But it also achieved sales of over 100,000 units in the first month of its launch.

Huaguang smartphones finally have a serious rival.

Fortunately, Wanfeng started planning its expansion last spring, and now it has achieved self-sufficiency in chips just when iPhone was launched. Otherwise, Pingguo would have had the opportunity to reap the benefits.

In mid-June, Huaguang Mobile Phones began to resume shipments, and by July it had the capacity to supply 1.5 million mobile phones per month, basically restoring the supply volume of all supply channels.

Wan Feng went to Shanghai, mainly to check out the production status of ASML's immersion lithography machines.

After more than a year of adaptation and adjustment, immersion lithography machines have officially started working in Huaguang Electronics' workshop and began to produce advanced nano-level chips.

Because of its appearance, Cheng Gong designed the world's first chip based on 60-nanometer technology, and plans to conduct wafer testing at the end of the year.

The production of immersion lithography machines is much more complicated than that of old-style lithography machines. From the successful trial last year to this year, ASML has only produced four machines in one year.

It's impossible to manufacture this thing on an assembly line.

Two of these four immersion lithography machines are located in Huaguang Electronics and two in Huaguang Chip.

High-end chips will be produced first in these two places.

The first generation of Huaguang smartphones had been on the market for nearly two years by July 2007, and global sales had reached 26 million units.

For a new type of mobile phone, this is already an excellent result.

The mission of the first generation of smart phones has basically been completed, and the launch of the second generation of Huaguang smartphones is also on the agenda.

If chip production had not been restricted, the second-generation Huaguang smartphone would have been on the market for two months.

The original plan was to release it on May 1st, but now it has to be pushed back a few months and will be released in September.

The second generation of Huaguang smartphones has slight differences in appearance. The screen is still 3.5 inches, but due to the improvement of integration, its body thickness is slightly thinner.

In terms of performance, the system has been optimized to make the machine run more smoothly, with 16GB of memory space and the number of applications in the app store expanded to 300.

There is also support for GPS.

If you miss the spring release, then it will have to be released in September.
