Reborn in the 70s as an Educated Youth

In her previous life, Lin Chuchu was framed by her aunt and uncle, lost her job, and spent her entire life working as their family's servant.

However, her father was a martyr, and her mot...

Chapter 4 Moving

The sun was blazing, and Lin Chuchu felt uncomfortable all over. Luckily, she was wearing gloves, otherwise her fingers would have been covered in cuts.

Even so, Lin Chuchu didn't utter a single cry of pain.

"Meng Wanyin, how many times have I taught you? That's a seedling, not a weed. Aren't you just insulting people? You've pulled up perfectly good seedlings."

Lin Chuchu was engrossed in her work when she heard the sound and looked up at Meng Wanyin.

She'd been working on it for an hour, and she was still making the wrong call. She wasn't sure if Meng Wanyin was doing it on purpose.

Meng Wanyin's eyes were red, and she lowered her head and murmured, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."

The argument between the two attracted the attention of the brigade leader.

"What are you doing? You've earned enough work points, haven't you? Get to work, all of you."

The woman walked up to the brigade leader and said, "Brigade leader, Meng, the educated youth, has ruined a lot of seedlings and said he can't learn how to do it. My child can distinguish weeds at the age of five."

"Alright, that's enough. He's an educated youth, he's never worked in the fields before."

The woman pursed her lips, clearly unconvinced. "Didn't Chuchu do a great job? She's from a big city too."

Lin Chuchu blinked speechlessly. How come she always gets dragged along?

Forget it, she should just pull the weeds.

These weeds are really hard to pull. They don't have many hoes, so they can only use their hands. The half-grown corn leaves scratch their faces and make them hurt.

Even if you cover your face, it won't help.

Meng Wanyin finally got a new job: land reclamation. She was the only woman among several men.

After working for a while, I couldn't continue and kept complaining of hand pain.

Unfortunately, no one showed any compassion; everyone wanted to earn more work points.

By noon, Lin Chuchu had managed to earn three work points. She took a short break at noon, but would have to continue in the afternoon.

At noon, the village secretary's wife cooked lunch again: cornbread buns. They were so dry they made my throat sore, but I had to eat them, or I'd be hungry in the afternoon.

Although she was tired, Lin Chuchu was still very happy to be away from her vampire family.

In the afternoon, just as he stepped out of the room, Liu Rong said, "Mu Chen and I are going to the mountain to collect firewood at two o'clock this afternoon. Do you want to come?"

"Yes, I'll go too."

In a few days, they will have to start their own fire, and they will have to rely on themselves for all the firewood they need.

This isn't the busiest time; you can choose your own schedule. Longer working hours mean more work points, and shorter working hours mean fewer work points.

Mu Chen glanced at her casually. This girl was efficient and didn't complain about hardship or fatigue. She was much better than those delicate female educated youth.

The three of them walked together into the field, talking in hushed tones. This scene deeply stung Meng Wanyin.

She's taken a liking to Mu Chen. Mu Chen's demeanor and attire suggest he comes from an extraordinary family. Perhaps with Mu Chen's help, she can have a chance to return to the city.

Who is Lin Chuchu? She's not even an adult yet, has an average appearance, and a figure like a bean sprout. How can she compare to her?

Lin Chuchu was unaware of her malice. When she arrived at the destination, she asked the woman in charge of watching them for leave and then began to do her own work.

At two o'clock, Lin Chuchu stood up, straightened her back, gave the woman a small handful of candy, and left the group with a smile, heading towards the village secretary's house.

She came back to retrieve her sickle. Last time she went to the county, she got a second-hand sickle. It wasn't very big, just right for gathering wild vegetables and collecting wood.

When they came out again, they found that there were many people with them, including six new educated youth and two old educated youth.

When there are many people around, Lin Chuchu immediately reverts to her aloof and quiet demeanor, only answering a few words when asked by others.

The group chattered away the whole way.

We soon arrived at the foot of the mountain.

Surrounded by mountains, they could only stay on the outermost edge, where there were deep forests and tigers were said to roam.

There was no danger at the edge, and the crowd dispersed in twos and threes.

It had rained a few days ago, and the forest was a bit damp. Lin Chuchu silently followed behind Mu Chen and Liu Rong.

I would squat down from time to time to dig up some wild vegetables, but the wild vegetables nowadays are a bit old.

They're dried and then mixed into steamed buns in winter, making for a rare delicacy.

As she walked, Lin Chuchu suddenly spotted some mushrooms.

"Comrade Mu, Comrade Liu, there are mushrooms here, come over quickly."

Lin Chuchu waved excitedly at the two of them, but Mu Chen reminded her before he could get close.

"Don't touch it yet. Many mushrooms in the mountains are poisonous. Be careful."

Lin Chuchu agreed and squatted down obediently to look at him. Mu Chen walked up to her and looked at her carefully.

"These mushrooms aren't poisonous, let's pick them!"

The three of them worked together, and each of them picked more than a dozen.

Lin Chuchu secretly put a little bit into her spatial storage, which would display the name and whether it was poisonous.

Having made a harvest, the group didn't linger and began collecting dry branches and wood from the surrounding area. Lin Chuchu offered her sickle, and Mu Chen, taking advantage of his height, easily reached for some branches from higher up.

There were too many branches for them to carry, enough for each person to carry on their back, so they stopped.

Lin Chuchu's number was naturally less than theirs. On the way back, the small path turned into a main road, where she met up with the others.

Wang Zhaodi helped Meng Wanyin, who was limping, clearly having sprained her ankle.

Of the three, Lin Chuchu and Mu Chen were not the ones to initiate conversation, but Liu Rong asked, "What happened to Comrade Meng? Did he sprain his ankle?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the other educated youths looked grim. They had all come out to work, but because of Meng Wanyin and the others, they had to come back early and hadn't even collected much firewood.

I should have gone to the fields to earn work points instead of wasting my time.

Meng Wanyin said with a guilty look, "I'm so sorry everyone, I didn't pay attention and that's why I sprained my ankle. I'll add some extra dishes for everyone tonight."

Upon hearing this, everyone's expressions finally softened.
