Returning to forty years ago after being reborn, what can one do?
Should one go with the flow of the times and ride the wave, or use the advantages of rebirth to avoid misfortune and seek goo...
So, Sheng Xitai took his little nephew to the north kang (heated brick bed) to coax him and found some things for the two of them to play with.
Sheng Xinhua still longed for the dumplings on the south kang (heated brick bed) and kept thinking about going there.
However, he still can't get off the kang (a heated brick bed), as he fell off the edge of the kang a few days ago.
The little guy had a good memory and dared not go near the edge of the kang (heated brick bed). He could only stand on the north kang, craning his neck to look at the south kang, and making "ah ah" sounds towards the south kang.
No matter how much Sheng Xinhua called out, no one paid him any attention. Everyone kept their heads down and worked quickly, rolling out the dough and making dumplings.
Sheng Xinhua called out for a while, but no one paid any attention to him. Perhaps he also felt it was pointless, so he simply stopped thinking about it and settled down to play with his uncle on the north kang.
By the time Sheng Liancheng and his son finished showering and getting ready, the dumplings were almost all wrapped.
Zhang Shuzhen didn't let the father and son get involved, only telling them to rest for a while and just comfort the child.
Sheng Liancheng stayed on the mountain for several months, thinking about his grandson all the time. When he came back at noon, he was afraid that his clothes would frighten the child, so he didn't dare to get close to him.
Now that everything is finally tidied up, I'm holding my grandson and playing with him on the kang (heated brick bed).
Despite not having seen each other for several months, Sheng Xinhua didn't feel awkward at all when he saw Sheng Liancheng. He sat in his grandfather's lap and chatted with him casually.
Anyway, only he knows what he said.
Sheng Liancheng looked at his chubby grandson with great affection. He had just shaved, so his beard wasn't prickly. He grabbed Sheng Xinhua's little face and hands and kept kissing him.
This amused Sheng Xinhua so much that he chuckled and forgot all about causing trouble on the south kang (heated brick bed).
"My dear grandson, wait a minute, Grandpa will go find you something delicious to eat."
Sheng Liancheng suddenly remembered that the jujubes he brought back at noon were frozen outside.
So he put down his grandson, grabbed a handful, put them in a small bowl, and washed them with clean water.
"Here, try this, it's very sweet." Sheng Liancheng carried the bowl into the house and presented it to his grandson.
Wild jujubes are not very big, about the size of Sheng Liancheng's thumb.
In autumn, the trees are exposed to both wind and sun, causing their bark to shrivel and their interiors to lose moisture.
Sheng Liancheng just washed the dates twice with clean water. The outside of the originally frozen and hard dates thawed, but there were still ice crystals in the center.
Sheng Xinhua curiously picked one up, put it in his mouth, and bit into it. The sweet aroma was mixed with a rich fruity fragrance, and it was also icy cold. The little boy liked it immediately.
Sheng Xitai also came over, picked one up and put it in his mouth, "Mmm, delicious. This is even better than the ones my brother and his family picked from the mountains in the fall. It's especially sweet."
Sheng Xitai is a true foodie, so if he says that, it means these frozen jujubes are really delicious.
"Look, what are you saying? When you pick them fresh in the fall, they're juicy and not as sweet."
"This tree spends autumn and half the winter on the tree, almost losing all its moisture, how could it not be sweet?"
Sheng Liancheng looked at his youngest son and grandson with a loving smile.
Sheng Xinhua clearly liked the jujube; he had just finished one when he picked up another and put it in his mouth.
Zhang Shuzhen saw what was happening on the south side of the kang (heated brick bed) and couldn't help but offer a few words of advice.
"Old man, keep an eye on the child and don't let him eat too much. Frozen food is too cold, and you'll make sure he gets diarrhea if he eats too much."
Children are young and have weak digestive systems, so they shouldn't eat too much cold food.
"I understand, don't worry." How could Sheng Liancheng not know his place?
There weren't many in the bowl, only about ten, and Sheng Xitai shared them, so it was fine.
Sure enough, the small bowl was empty in no time. Sheng Xinhua was enjoying his meal when he looked down and saw that it was gone.
"Grandpa, Grandpa, nothing?"
Sheng Xinhua picked up the small bowl and brought it to Sheng Liancheng. He stared at his grandfather with wide eyes and an expectant look, as if to say that the food in the bowl was gone and he wanted some more.
"Oh dear, there aren't any left? Grandpa doesn't have any either. How about Grandpa goes up the mountain to pick some tomorrow?"
Sheng Liancheng clapped his hands, then spread them out to indicate that he had none left.
Sheng Xinhua put down the bowl, grabbed his grandfather's big hand, and looked at it repeatedly for a long time before he was sure that his grandfather really had no more good food.
"No." The little guy twitched his face, his eyes full of disappointment.
"Hmm, that's all. Grandpa will pick some tomorrow."
Sheng Liancheng continued, following his grandson's words, "When you're coaxing a child, you can't just drop the words on the ground."
"Pick it." Sheng Xinhua nodded, uttering a slightly accented sound, as if to say, "Grandpa, remember to pick it."
The grandfather and grandson chatted away, taking turns saying one word at a time, asking and answering questions, and they seemed to be having a good time.
This amused the people on the south kang (heated brick bed), who kept laughing.
Before long, the dumplings were all wrapped. Zhang Shuzhen glanced at them and saw that it was only a little past four o'clock.
I had lunch and I'm not hungry yet, so it's a bit early to cook dumplings now.
So Zhang Shuzhen said to take the lid to the outer room first, and then cook the dumplings in a little while.
"Grandson, are you hungry? Grandma will get you something to eat."
The adults aren't hungry, but Sheng Xinhua isn't. He's been weaned and needs a snack in the afternoon, otherwise he gets very hungry.
Those few jujubes I ate earlier weren't enough, so I need to have some more now.
Zhang Shuzhen quickly prepared half a bowl of malted milk powder, then took a large biscuit, soaked it in the malted milk powder until it softened, and fed it to Sheng Xinhua with a spoon.
Sheng Xinhua has been weaned for almost half a month and has long forgotten about breastfeeding, so she has stopped looking for it.
The little one has a big mouth and will eat anything. He ate the biscuits soaked in malted milk powder, one bite at a time, with his grandma's help.
Before long, half a large biscuit and half a bowl of malted milk powder were in Sheng Xinhua's stomach.
This wasn't a proper meal, just a snack to tide them over, so Zhang Shuzhen didn't let the children eat too much, just a little bit, since they were going to have dumplings later.
