Returning to forty years ago after being reborn, what can one do?
Should one go with the flow of the times and ride the wave, or use the advantages of rebirth to avoid misfortune and seek goo...
"Alright, I'm relieved that you've settled in at school."
Before leaving, I told Uncle Zheng that I wanted to take a walk and check out various places along the way, so I wouldn't stay here with him.
Just focus on your studies at school. If you need anything, just write a letter, make a phone call, or send a telegram back home.
The winters here are supposed to be warm, but I bet it'll be a bit tough for you since it's your first year here. Remember to wear warm clothes and don't get sick.
Sheng Xiping kept nagging for a while, then watched his sister walk into the school before turning and leaving.
Sheng Xiping has always said that he wants to visit the South, but he has never had the chance.
Taking advantage of the opportunity to send my younger sister to school, I had a chance to see the sights.
Of course, wandering around aimlessly like this wouldn't work; he needed someone familiar with the area to guide him. Sheng Xiping was well-prepared for this.
He has kept the contact information of some of the timber customers he has worked with in the past two years.
He also collected the addresses and phone numbers of many timber companies when the timber ordering fair was held in the spring.
Among them are people from Guangzhou.
So, Sheng Xiping took out his phone book and found a customer's phone number in Guangzhou that he had recently contacted.
Then I found a public phone and called the other party.
The other party was quite surprised to receive Sheng Xiping's call.
Upon hearing that Sheng Xiping was in Guangzhou, he immediately said that Sheng Xiping should stay put and that he would come to pick him up.
"Oh dear, Director Sheng, why didn't you call me before you came to Guangzhou? I know, I'll pick you up at the station."
The other party drove over, and upon seeing Sheng Xiping, they warmly came forward to shake hands and greet him.
"I brought my younger sister here to study, and I just remembered Mr. Wu, so I gave him a call." Sheng Xiping smiled and extended his right hand to shake hands with the other person.
"Factory Director Sheng's sister is here to study? Which school?"
This Mr. Wu is the general manager of Lihua Timber Trading Company. I met him once at the timber ordering fair, and he had a good chat with Sheng Xiping.
Because it was an individual company, it didn't get many orders at the order fair. So, Mr. Wu contacted Sheng Xiping privately later, and Sheng Xiping helped him get timber twice.
Therefore, when General Manager Wu met Sheng Xiping, they were quite friendly.
"Oh, Sun Yat-sen University, I just got in this year." Sheng Xiping smiled and gave the name of his sister's school.
"Oh my, that's one of the best schools around here. It has a long history, it's been around for decades, a well-established brand."
"Your sister is amazing! Even students from our province have to be exceptionally outstanding to get in." Upon hearing this, Mr. Wu praised the Sheng family's younger sister once again.
"Director Sheng, please get in the car. Let's talk somewhere else. You rarely come to Guangzhou, so you have to give me a chance to show you some hospitality."
Mr. Wu politely invited Sheng Xiping into the car, and then they went to a restaurant.
Before leaving, Sheng Xiping made thorough preparations, bringing with him a lot of Northeast specialties, such as ginseng, deer antler, lingzhi mushroom, immortal herb, and snow frog oil.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, Sheng Xiping pulled out a box from his large backpack, which contained ginseng slices, deer antler slices, lingzhi mushrooms, and other items.
"Mr. Wu, I came in a hurry and didn't bring much with me. This is a specialty of Northeast China: ginseng, deer antler, and lingzhi slices."
It would be great for making medicinal wine or soup; very nourishing. It's just a small token of my appreciation, I hope Mr. Wu won't find it offensive.
Sheng Xiping smiled and pushed the box in front of President Wu.
The people here love to make delicious soups and have a particular fondness for ginseng, so when they heard Sheng Xiping say this, Mr. Wu's eyes lit up and he happily took the box.
"Director Sheng, you're too kind. You even brought a gift from so far away."
Mr. Wu warmly welcomed Sheng Xiping, treated him to local specialties, and insisted on arranging for him to stay at a hotel after the meal.
Sheng Xiping declined Mr. Wu's offer and continued to stay at the same hotel.
I simply mentioned to Mr. Wu that I wanted to travel around the area around Guangzhou, especially to visit companies related to timber processing.
So, over the next two days, accompanied by General Manager Wu, Sheng Xiping first visited the factories under Lihua Timber Management Company, and then went to some furniture factories, timber processing plants and other places.
I have gained some understanding of the demand for timber in the south.
During the conversation, Sheng Xiping mentioned that he wanted to visit the newly established special economic zone to see what it was all about.
In fact, Sheng Xiping had been to Shenzhen in his previous life, and it was already very prosperous at that time.
He just wanted to see what Shenzhen, which had just begun construction, looked like now.
Mr. Wu did not refuse, but he had company business to attend to, so he helped Sheng Xiping with the relevant procedures and arranged a driver to take Sheng Xiping to the special economic zone for a visit.
Last August, the special economic zone was officially established, but back in 1979, a group of entrepreneurs from China Merchants Group boldly explored this area and established the Shekou Development Zone, which can be considered a pilot window for the special economic zone.
At that time, Shenzhen did not have the skyscrapers and bustling streets that we know today. Most of the buildings were factories, and many foreign and Hong Kong companies came to set up factories there.
As the driver was driving Sheng Xiping around the streets of Shekou, Sheng Xiping inadvertently noticed several tall, white tin cans standing on the north side of the road.
"Xiao Li, what's that over there?"
The driver glanced north and said, "Oh, that's a corn storage silo for a feed mill."
That feed mill belongs to a foreign company. They import corn from abroad, transport it through the port city, and then ship it here. It seems they process it into feed and then export it.
