Chapter 88 Even tigers don't eat their cubs.

“Bingchen, Zhenzhu and the others are going to the military base to join them, so they need to transfer their household registration, right? The household registration transfer certificate for Zhenzhu and the others also needs Dazhu's signature and stamp. It's not a good time for us to fall out with him right now!” Zhou Fugui continued to persuade him.

"Okay, I'll go there now." Zhou Bingchen had no choice but to agree.

Zhou Bingchen's thinking was very simple.

Zhou Dazhu sought him out, presumably to prevent Zhou Bingchen from revealing his embezzlement.

If Zhou Dazhu and Zhou Bingqiang had been able to pull back from the brink and correct their mistakes in time, Zhou Bingchen wouldn't have had to go to town to report Zhou Dazhu.

Before leaving, Zhou Fugui reminded Zhou Bingchen, "Bingchen, I'll go with you! Tell Pearl that we might be back late."

Zhou Bingchen did as instructed.

Zhou Fugui and Zhou Bingchen arrived at Zhou Dazhu's house, and Zhou Dazhu was indeed very unhappy.

"Bingchen, you really look down on us poor folks now that you've become an official. I told you to come this afternoon, and you're only just arriving now," Zhou Dazhu said coldly, his face stern.

"Captain, it's all my fault. I had a couple of too many drinks and only told Bingchen about it now." Before Zhou Bingchen could speak, Zhou Fugui quickly apologized.

“I misunderstood you, Bingchen, please sit down.” Zhou Dazhu finally smiled.

"Yu Feng, brew a pot of tea. Use the new tea I just bought yesterday," Zhou Dazhu called out to the inner room before sitting down.

"Captain, there's no need to make tea. It's getting late, and I have trouble sleeping if I drink tea at night," Zhou Bingchen said.

The smile on Zhou Dazhu's face froze.

“I want to drink it, let Yufeng brew it! Dazhu, I heard from your dad that you just got a packet of tea from the high mountains, it’s very fragrant, I’ve never tasted this kind before! Today, thanks to Bingchen, I’ll also try it.” Zhou Dazhu said with a smile.

"It's nothing special. There are a few old tea trees on a high peak in Wangjiagou. The taste is indeed good, but the yield is very small every year. Uncle Fugui, if you like it, I'll give you half an ounce to take home and drink later." Zhou Dazhu seemed to enjoy Zhou Fugui's flattery, his face beaming with smiles.

After serving the tea, Chen Yufeng went back to her room without saying a word, her head bowed.

Zhou Dazhu picked up two cups of tea and handed them to Zhou Fugui and Zhou Bingchen respectively. He then picked up the remaining cup for himself and took a sip.

Zhou Bingchen touched the rim of the glass with his lips, then put it down.

It was late at night, and Zhou Bingchen really didn't want to drink tea.

"Bingchen, why aren't you drinking? Well, you've been living in the big city for too long. It's understandable that you wouldn't look down on our country stuff." Zhou Dazhu, with his sharp eyes, noticed Zhou Bingchen's "little action" and his face showed displeasure.

Zhou Fugui secretly kicked Zhou Bingchen, signaling him not to upset Zhou Dazhu.

Zhou Bingchen hesitated for a moment, then picked up his teacup and took a small sip.

It has a sweet and fragrant taste, and is indeed a rare and excellent tea.

"Good tea, I'll drink it all." Zhou Fugui downed the tea in his cup in one gulp.

Seeing that Zhou Bingchen didn't move, Zhou Fugui kicked him again and said, "Bingchen, don't let your brother Dazhu down."

Zhou Bingchen had no choice but to pick up the teacup and gulp it down.

Zhou Fugui likes to toast whenever he's happy, whether it's wine or tea. He also likes to get others to toast with him.

It's just a cup of tea, such a small matter. Zhou Bingchen didn't want his father to lose face in front of Zhou Dazhu.

However, perhaps because I was in a bad mood, the tea tasted bitter towards the end.

After Zhou Bingchen finished his cup of tea, Zhou Dazhu's smile returned.

"Bingchen! You've been doing pretty well in the army these past few years, haven't you? Has your superior mentioned a promotion?" Zhou Dazhu asked.

"I'm just an ordinary soldier, how could I get promoted so easily?" Zhou Bingchen said modestly.

“Bingqiang and I didn’t actually embezzle anything, we just misappropriated a few dollars. We’ve already made up for it today. Bingchen, you’re not going to report us to the higher-ups, are you?” Zhou Dazhu asked after a moment of silence.

"Captain, all great corruption starts with taking small advantages. Some things can only be done once, not twice," Zhou Bingchen advised.

“Bingchen! We’re all from the same village and clan. There are some things you shouldn’t meddle in. Why don’t you just be a good officer and enjoy your wealth and honor?” Zhou Dazhu said.

"Captain, my dad said you promised to issue the household registration transfer certificate for Pearl and the others tonight. Can we go to the brigade headquarters to get it now?" Zhou Bingchen didn't want to waste any more words with Zhou Dazhu and just wanted to get the certificate and leave.

The smile on Zhou Dazhu's face disappeared.

After a half-minute silence, Zhou Dazhu stood up and said, "Let's go!"

Zhou Bingchen stood up, but whether it was from anger or from standing up too abruptly, he felt a little dizzy and swayed before regaining his balance.

"Bingchen, are you feeling unwell?" Zhou Fugui asked anxiously.

"Dad, I probably didn't sleep well last night, my head is a little dizzy." Zhou Bingchen made up an excuse to comfort Zhou Fugui so as not to worry him.

"Let me help you! Let's finish up and go home to rest early," Zhou Fugui said, supporting Zhou Bingchen's arm.

"Dad, thank you for your help." Zhou Bingchen said somewhat embarrassed.

Zhou Fugui helped Zhou Bingchen and followed behind Zhou Dazhu toward the brigade headquarters.

After walking for a while, Zhou Bingchen felt extremely dizzy. His legs also felt weak.

"Dad, please help me home first! I'm not feeling well, so let's go get it done tomorrow," Zhou Bingchen said with his eyes half-closed.

"We're almost there, just a few steps away." Zhou Fugui's voice seemed to drift over from a distant horizon. Zhou Bingchen shook his groggy head before he could hear him clearly.
