Chapter 34 Visiting the Lin Family…

"Mr. Huo, let's wait a little longer for Director Luo..."

The German translator from the investment promotion department stepped forward to try and stop him, but before he could finish speaking, he was left behind.

He tried to chase after it, but before he could even touch the car door, the car had already driven away.

Sitting in the car, Huo Qizhen glanced at the rearview mirror and a cold smile curled at the corner of his lips.

"I'm sorry to have made you laugh, Mr. Lin. Some people learn a little bit of gibberish and then forget who their ancestors were," Huo Qizhen said bluntly to the driver.

Lin Shaowen's secretary was also traveling with him; he did not speak Mandarin and had to rely on a translator.

At this point, he couldn't understand anything and was getting anxious.

Lin Shaowen chuckled softly, "Mr. Huo is quite humorous."

He's a seventy-year-old man; he's seen it all, he just doesn't want to bother with it.

Lin Shaowen felt it was a waste of energy to say even a few more words to people who weren't worth it.

He looked out the window, the seashell wall flashing past, distracting him.

The further in you drive, the more uneven the road becomes.

Lin Shaowen's gaze gradually changed; perhaps he could first build a road for the small fishing village.

Huo Qizhen didn't say anything along the way, but he was somewhat expectant, wondering what was so special about the ice-making workshop run by that young girl.

In just 10 minutes, the car stopped on the large lawn at the entrance of the village.

Lin Shaowen felt uneasy. After calming himself down, he got out of the car, leaning on his cane.

He got out of the car and saw the low houses in the village, a sense of familiarity washing over him.

Nothing has changed; it's still the same as he remembers it.

"Mr. Lin, let's pay a visit to the Lin family first." Huo Qizhen led the way, walking along the village path.

Lin Shaowen's secretary, Lacey, was extremely anxious. What if something happened in this godforsaken village?

He had no choice but to resign himself to his fate and hurry up and catch up.

"Mr. Huo, what's so special about the Lin family you mentioned?" Lin Shaowen asked casually.

He gripped his cane tightly with nervousness, his steps faltering.

Is his adoptive mother still alive? Has she long forgotten him?

"Mr. Lin, you'll see what's special about it when you get there," Huo Qizhen said, keeping everyone in suspense.

He was wearing floral shorts and a polo shirt, just like when he first came to the fishing village, but this time his steps were much lighter.

Although the path was a dirt road, it was still quite smooth.

Lin Shaowen nodded, but the further he went in, the more uneasy he became.

He was only a teenager at the time and only remembered the name of the village.

As I walk along the path now, memories keep flooding back into my mind.

Lin Shaowen quickened his pace, becoming somewhat anxious, his emotions fluctuating and complex.

Secretary Lacey watched her boss walk away quickly, her heart pounding, silently cursing Huo Qizhen a thousand times over.

"We've arrived." Huo Qizhen stopped in front of the Lin family's courtyard.

Lin Shaowen's heart raced. The walls here were noticeably higher, but the location was similar to before.

Knock, knock,

Huo Qizhen knocked on the door twice, as if striking Lin Shaowen's heart.

His eyes gradually welled up with tears as he waited for someone to open the door.

Creak!

The door opened, and when Lin Atai saw who it was, she said calmly, "You're back!"

Her expression was so calm that it stunned the people standing at the door.

Huo Qizhen looked at Lin Shaowen, his heart pounding in his throat.

Did Mrs. Lin know Mr. Lin?

"Ah Wen, come in now that you're back. Are you going to stand at the door like a door god?" Lin Atai said again before walking into the courtyard.

Secretary Lacey couldn't understand and frowned deeply.

Lin Shaowen's heart was pounding, and his hand holding the cane trembled slightly.

He lifted his foot and walked shakily into the courtyard.

The grape trellis is still there, the flowerbed is still there, and the yard is almost unchanged.

“Mother…” Lin Shaowen was already in tears.

Lin Atai looked at him, her face expressionless. She simply filled a bowl with sugar water and placed it on the stone table, just as she always did.

"Have some water! You've been out for so long and suffered a lot..."

Lin Atai took scissors from the basket and continued cutting paper.

Huo Qizhen was completely dumbfounded. So, Lin Shaowen is a member of the Lin family?

No, Lin Shaowen was an orphan who had been separated from his family during the turbulent times.

Lin Shaowen held the bowl, drank it down in big gulps, and tears streamed down his face like a child.

When he boarded the plane back to China, he didn't know what he was looking for and felt rootless.

Now he understands that what he longs for is to be a child again, to find his roots, not to be a wanderer adrift in the world.

"How are you doing?" Lin Shaowen asked impatiently after calming down.

Lin Atai's tone remained calm, "We have plenty to eat and drink, and we've always lived well."

"But you look much older; you've suffered a lot while you were out there."

Lin Shaowen's tears welled up again instantly.

Seeing their reaction, Huo Qizhen turned and walked out of the courtyard, sitting down on a stone stool by the door.

He had lived in the port city for many years and understood this homesickness.

Lacey looked at the old man in the yard, her heart filled with doubt.

He never expected that his boss could cry like a child in front of that old man.

Lacey simply sat down on the stone stool next to her.

When Lin Ziyan returned to her front door, she saw two people sitting on either side of the door, and her lips twitched.

She recognized Boss Huo, but she didn't recognize the foreigner next to him.

"Boss Huo, what brings you to visit the village?" Lin Ziyan teased as she spoke.

After the two became familiar with each other, they spoke very casually.

Huo Qizhen's eyes lit up when he saw her. "If you don't come back soon, the house will be flooded."

Lin Ziyan looked at the people sitting in the courtyard with suspicion, and then stopped in her tracks.

“The boss was tricked into coming here by you guys,” Lacey said in German.

Lin Ziyan turned to look at him and replied in fluent German, "Don't talk nonsense if you don't know."
