Chapter 4 Arrival at the Shrimp Farm
"Come in first."
The principal took off his glasses, wiped them carefully, and then put them back on.
Lin Ziyan walked into the office and briefly explained her family situation.
There was only one great-grandmother and two younger sisters in the family, so there was really no way for them to continue their studies.
Moreover, her second younger sister had just started first grade, so it was impossible for her to drop out of school and come home to help.
"Are you from Haibi Village?" the principal asked excitedly, his eyes then reddening.
Lin Ziyan nodded and said nothing more.
He seemed to realize something, and his hands trembled slightly.
He ran a shrimp farm and then died suddenly?
The principal looked at the girl in front of him and sighed. In this day and age, who doesn't go to great lengths to get into university?
No one wants to drop out of school and go home unless absolutely necessary.
“In that case, I will apply for a one-year leave of absence for you.” The principal pondered for a moment, his expression slightly serious.
Seeing his expression, Lin Ziyan didn't refuse, since she didn't plan to go back to school anyway.
Taking a leave of absence or dropping out of school makes no difference to her.
The procedures were completed quickly. Lin Ziyan took her leave of absence application, packed her things in the dormitory, and left the school.
She didn't have time to get a good look at the Ocean University in the 1980s; she hurriedly caught the last bus and returned to the small fishing village.
…
Back in the village, she had barely put down the things she brought back from school when she rushed off to the market at the small port.
There are only vegetables at home, not even a bit of meat.
She can go without eating, but her two younger sisters are growing and need extra nutrition.
Lin Ziyan arrived at the small market with a bamboo basket slung over her shoulder. She frowned as she looked at the few scattered stalls.
"Ah Yan, are you here to buy groceries?" Aunt Chen called out when she saw her.
Lin Ziyan arrived at her stall, looked at the oysters placed in the corner, and calculated the price in her mind.
She was unaware of the prices in the 1980s.
In the original owner's memories, there was nothing related to prices.
"Aunt Chen, how much are those?" Lin Ziyan asked tentatively.
Aunt Chen was taken aback, her gaze turning strange. She said in a low voice, "Those were given as a gift. You don't need to pay for them if you want them."
Lin Ziyan's eyes flickered slightly as she noticed the seafood on her stall and asked,
"Then I want this big sea fish."
Aunt Chen said, "Okay, I'll kill it for you."
Her expression was somewhat complicated, but she still efficiently cleaned the large sea fish.
The villagers in the small fishing village rarely come to the small market to buy fish; they mostly go to the beach to collect snails and the like.
Almost all the people who come here to buy things are port workers or ship captains.
Aunt Chen, "Do you want all of these oysters?"
Lin Ziyan nodded, her eyes fixed intently on the oysters.
Aunt Chen took a large black plastic bag and put everything in.
"Ayan, just give me one yuan."
Lin Ziyan quickly took out the money and handed it over.
She estimated the fish to weigh about 5 kilograms, which was definitely worth more than 1 yuan.
However, she couldn't say much to Aunt Chen now; the fish was in a black plastic bag, so no one could tell how big it was.
Lin Ziyan carried a large bag of things and asked around the market before she could get a general idea of the current prices.
Ordinary sea fish costs 45 cents per pound.
Wild yellow croaker is 2.1 yuan per jin (500g).
Eggs are 38 cents a pound.
Rice costs 18 cents a pound, and pork costs 93 cents a pound.
Lin Ziyan got the gist of it and hurried home.
She slowed her pace as she approached a uniquely renovated courtyard.
Looking inside from the doorway,
A tall man is doing pull-ups; beneath the thin fabric, his healthy and powerful physique is clearly visible, with the outline of his muscles.
Broad shoulders, narrow waist, and perfectly proportioned arm muscles…
Lin Ziyan glanced at him and thought to herself, "This little fishing village actually has such a charming man."
She vaguely felt that the man was somewhat familiar, but after thinking for a moment and not being able to remember, she quickly walked away.
"Brother Shen, is that Lin Ziyan peeking at the door?"
Yang Yanzhou hurriedly walked out of the door, looking suspicious.
Lu Yun Shen, who was exercising, ignored him.
He noticed it when the girl stopped walking.
He thought Lin Ziyan would, as usual, barge in and chat with him about this and that.
Unexpectedly, she only glanced at it before quickly leaving.
Lu Yunshen keenly sensed that Lin Ziyan's gaze held only admiration, devoid of any other emotion.
"Could I have seen wrong?" Yang Yanzhou asked doubtfully.
He strode out the door and just then saw the girl's clothes fluttering as she turned into the alley.
"It shouldn't be her. Lin Ziyan always sticks to you like a catfish whenever she sees you. Only you are good-natured."
Yang Yanzhou muttered to himself, then turned around and saw that Lu Yunshen had already gone into the inner room.
He touched the tip of his nose and strode inside with his long legs.
"Brother Shen, didn't you say you were going to check out the shrimp farm?"
…
As evening fell, the glow of the sunset reflected on the walls of the Lin family's courtyard, turning the white pebbles on them red.
The sea breeze rustled through the tender green grape leaves, creating a swaying motion.
After finishing her meal, Lin Ziyan ignored her second sister's probing gaze and went to the shrimp farm alone with a flashlight.
She hadn't been gone long when a small hand grabbed her arm.
"Jiaojiao, why did you run out all by yourself?"
Lin Ziyan squatted down and looked at her younger sister, asking.
She glanced back and saw Lin Xiaori hiding in the alley, and couldn't help but chuckle to herself.
Are you worried about her safety going to the shrimp farm alone?
"Sister, I'll go with you to... shrimp..." Jiao Jiao looked at her with her round eyes and smiled shyly.
"Okay, then Jiaojiao wants to walk by herself, your older sister can't carry you."
Lin Wanjiao nodded vigorously and held her hand tightly, refusing to let go.
