Reborn in the Apocalypse: Bringing the Whole Village to Farm

The apocalypse arrived, but there were no zombies. Only unpredictable extreme weather and daily squabbles forced humans to survive on instinct alone to avoid being eliminated.

Yun Qi struggle...

Chapter 240 Lamb

Yunqi looked at the three new lambs that had joined the family. Yunqi's mother skillfully wiped the lambs' bodies and then gently placed them on the freshly changed hay.

"Mom, last time this ewe only had one lamb, how come there are three lambs this time?" Yunqi didn't dare to touch it, and squatted down to watch his mother skillfully change to another lamb to wipe its body.

"That's how sheep are. They usually only give birth to a single lamb in their first litter, but they'll have multiple lambs later." From the initial chaos of helping a sheep give birth, Yun's mother is now calm and composed, answering her daughter's questions while finishing her work.

"Xiao Qi, go find some goat milk powder. We need to feed these lambs some first, as the ewes definitely can't keep up with the demand."

Mother Cloud cleared the filth away, intending to burn it later.

"You need to make them goat milk? Do you need to use a baby bottle?"

"Boil the bottles that Junjun and the others used in water, and mix some milk powder with them at a ratio of 1:7," Yun's mother said, remembering the precautions for raising lambs that she had been checking these past few days.

"This is practically like raising a child, so meticulous." Yunqi muttered to himself as he ran to the house to find a baby bottle.

Luckily, Junjun and Lele weren't home today, otherwise they would have joined in the commotion. I thought I'd remind them again when I got back, and make sure they didn't go to the backyard to bother the lambs, since newborn lambs seem to be very delicate.

When Yun Zhiming returned with the two children, Yun Qi and his mother had already taken care of most of the matters. Yun's mother even closed the door leading to the backyard.

"Has the ewe given birth yet?" Yun Zhiming asked as he saw the baby bottle next to the cabinet.

"Yes, she gave birth to three little lambs." Mother Yun was happy when she mentioned this. After the lambs are weaned in a while, the children in the family will be able to drink goat's milk again.

"Wow, that's really good, three this time." Yun Zhiming was already thinking about how to distribute the lambs. He would definitely keep one for his family, and the remaining two could be given to his two uncles, since there were only a few families raising sheep in Pinghe Village. He was thinking about how to bring this up with his family, since the ewe had been carefully cared for and had been eagerly anticipating the lambs in her belly.

"That's right. We need to be careful for the first two weeks and try to keep Junjun and Lele from playing in the back."

"Why can't we go play in the back?" Junjun and Lele both looked up at their grandmother when she mentioned their names.

"Because the mother sheep has given birth to her baby, she needs to rest more now to care for the baby. Let's not disturb them, okay?" Yunqi squatted down and explained to them.

"What do baby lambs look like? Can we go and see them? We'll make sure we don't disturb them."

"We will be very quiet, not noisy at all."

The two children's sweet, childlike voices softened the hearts of the adults.

"It might not be possible today, how about we go and take a look together tomorrow?" Yun Zhiming always indulged his two children, and he gave in to the first one immediately.

"Okay then, you must let us go see it tomorrow." Lele glanced at her older brother before nodding in agreement.

This morning, Sicheng went to check the back mountain. After returning, he went to the Wu family's house to help build it. He might not be back until quite late. The family didn't wait for him and started sitting around the table to eat dinner.

"Xiao Qi, go look around and see if you have any good quality liquor left. Your second grandfather's birthday is coming up soon, so we'll send him a couple of bottles to make him happy," Yun Zhiming said to his daughter while eating.

"Dad, sending liquor isn't a good idea. It's better for Second Grandpa to drink less of this kind of liquor. If you send it over, Second Grandma will definitely be unhappy."

“But your second grandfather really likes this kind of thing, and I thought I’d make him happy.” Thinking of his second aunt, Yun Zhiming hesitated a bit, realizing that the fruit wine from before was no longer suitable to be brought out.

"How about we make a set of clothes for Second Grandfather? We just happened to have bought so much fabric before, so we can take it out when we have the chance." Yunqi thought of the fabric piled up in a whole corner of his space, and then he thought about how people in the village now just mend and patch their clothes. If they don't find a replacement soon, they will really go back to the primitive society and use leather to cover their shame.

"If you have fabric, can you make clothes?" Dad Yun asked directly.

Yun Qi was truly stumped by this question. She really wasn't good at handicrafts. She looked at her mother, who quickly shook her head to indicate that she didn't know how either.

“But your Aunt Zhixin definitely will. She used to work in a garment factory. I just don’t know if she can make the whole garment.” Mother Yun immediately pointed out a way for her.

"Then let's just send the fabric. Send a lot so that Second Madam can have a whole set made." Yunqi didn't care about any of that now. As long as the things were sent out, someone would eventually make them.

“Then let’s send another lamb, otherwise it will be hard to feed all these sheep.” Yun Zhiming looked carefully at his wife and daughter in front of him, and finally mustered up the courage to say it.

Yun's mother knew her husband best; seeing his expression, she knew he had already made a plan.

“Why is it hard to raise them? If all else fails, I’ll just scatter some grass seeds along the edge of the field, and cut a handful of grass every day, and they’ll grow.” Mother Yun deliberately ignored his question and directly offered her solution.

"That would be so tiring, and we don't have enough space at home for them to live in. Once they get a little bigger, the little house in the backyard will be a bit cramped."

"It's alright, we can just have Acheng build a small hut next door when he comes back," Yun's mother continued to tease him.

Yunqi saw that her father was racking his brains trying to figure out how to persuade her mother, but he didn't say anything. He just chuckled and fed Junjun and Lele a couple of bites of rice.

Seeing that his daughter wasn't helping but was even snickering, Yun Zhiming secretly kicked Yun Qi, signaling her to say a few words in her defense.

Yun Qi was about to say something when his mother glared at him, turning her head away with her rice bowl, not siding with either of them, because she couldn't afford to offend either of them.

"Anyway, we already have a few sheep at home. Giving one to each of our uncles is a way for us to show our filial piety." Yun Zhiming gritted his teeth and said his plan.

"Look at how cautious you are. If you're a family, you should just say what you want to say. Why are you hiding things like this? Do you think I'm the kind of person who doesn't understand reason?" Mother Yun stopped teasing him. "In two weeks, we can add some hay to these lambs and send them over."

“My wife is the best. I was just worried you wouldn’t want to leave her, since you’ve taken care of her all along.” When Yun Zhiming heard his wife agree, he started showering her with compliments, while also taking the opportunity to badmouth his daughter.
