The apocalypse arrived, but there were no zombies. Only unpredictable extreme weather and daily squabbles forced humans to survive on instinct alone to avoid being eliminated.
Yun Qi struggle...
"Finally, we got rid of this family. I've never seen anyone so troublesome." Yun Qiao watched them walk away before turning around and complaining.
"What are you up to, kid? You can't just mess around with medicinal herbs like that!" Now that there were no outsiders around, Liu Fengya started scolding people directly.
"It's just reducing her dosage so she suffers a bit more," Yun Qiao said dismissively.
Liu Fengya looked at him speechlessly, "You don't know anything about medicinal herbs. With you reducing the dosage, the whole medicine is wrong. I just rearranged it again, and now her medicine is only one-third of what it was before. She's going to suffer for a long time now."
Yun Qiao was even happier than before, "Isn't this great? Anyway, she won't die. At worst, we can just increase her dosage next time."
Liu Fengya was amused by his logic. "This is medicine, not rice as you think. If you eat less this meal, you can make up for it at the next one."
Yun Qiao didn't want to listen to his nagging any longer. Anyway, she had achieved her goal. "I'm leaving. I have to go to my shift."
After saying that, he disappeared in a flash, leaving Liu Fengya, who was left to clean up the mess, to stand there and sigh.
Huang Yun was completely unaware of the little incident that had happened when she was taken back to Xin San Village, and she was also unaware that a longer recovery period was to come.
The next day, Si Cheng heard about Huang Yun being bitten by a poisonous snake, but he only treated it as a topic of conversation and didn't do anything about it.
As usual, the couple took their farm tools and went to the field to tend to the weeds.
They were unaware that shortly after they left, uninvited guests arrived at their home.
"In-law, are you busy?" This time, Gao Shuzhen didn't look around as much as she did last time when she entered the door, and her attitude was very calm.
Yun Zhiming was sitting alone in the courtyard, patting the bean pods to make the beans fall out.
Since I last saw Gao Shuzhen from afar on the wall, I haven't really seen her up close, so I didn't react immediately.
"You're so busy, you didn't even think of me. I'm Sicheng's mother." Although Gao Shuzhen was a little unhappy, she suppressed her discomfort and forced a smile, remembering the purpose of her visit.
Yun Zhiming then put down the stick in his hand, stood up and clapped his hands, "I really didn't recognize him. Acheng isn't home right now. Come over when he gets back!"
Yun Zhiming is now starting to have complaints about the village gates being left open during the day, with all sorts of smelly and stinky things being put inside.
Gao Shuzhen has also changed a lot. She used to be quite plump, but now she's just skin and bones, which shows that she hasn't been having a good time lately.
"We moved to the outskirts of the village, so we came here specifically to thank you for helping us build those two houses." Gao Shuzhen kept quiet about whether Si Cheng was home or not.
“Acheng arranged all of this. You can thank him when he gets back.” Yun Zhiming didn’t invite her inside, but instead confronted her in the courtyard.
Gao Shuzhen didn't expect the other party to be so disrespectful, and the conversation couldn't continue.
"My dear in-law, things are so difficult outside right now, and we're almost out of food at home. I wonder if we could lend you some money?" Gao Shuzhen could tell that the other party didn't like her, but that didn't stop her from stating her purpose directly.
Yun Zhiming wasn't entirely ignorant; he knew a bit about the situation in Gaojia Village. "Didn't your whole village just harvest the crops before you moved here? There's no way you'd be short of food now."
Gao Shuzhen: "You only collected such a small amount of stuff, and most of it is sweet potatoes. Eating too much of that can cause heartburn. I see you have a lot of grain drying in your yard. Could you sponsor some of it?"
Looking at the corn, beans, and peanuts spread out all over the yard, Gao Shuzhen wished she could take them all back to her own home.
Before she came here, she had made up her mind that this time she would use a conciliatory tactic and make sure she got a batch of grain back no matter what.
Yun Zhiming didn't expect her to be so direct, and now he didn't know what to say. Seeing Hou Yunhai walking past the courtyard gate, he quickly called out to him.
"Yunhai, go to the field and call Acheng back. Tell her that her biological mother has come."
When Hou Yunhai learned who the visitor was, he looked at Gao Shuzhen in surprise. This woman with such a mean appearance was actually Si Cheng's biological mother. He couldn't see any trace of her in Si Cheng.
“I’m going to the fields anyway, you can come with me,” Hou Yunhai said, nodding to her.
Gao Shuzhen said, "I won't bother you any longer. It's the same if I chat with my in-laws."
Yun Zhiming, however, showed her no mercy and said directly, "The grain in the house isn't something I can decide on my own. If you need to borrow some, let's wait until Acheng comes back to discuss it!"
Yun Zhiming kept quiet about the sponsorship, otherwise, given her greedy nature, who knows what kind of trouble she might cause in the future.
Hou Yunhai understood Gao Shuzhen's purpose in coming from these words, and now he was even less likely to let Uncle Ming face this troublesome person alone.
"Uncle Ming, where's Auntie?"
Yun Zhiming glanced at Gao Shuzhen. This person hadn't asked about the two children since she entered the door. What kind of in-laws did she call him?
"Your aunt took the child to her great-uncle's house, and they probably won't be back for a while."
Hou Yunhai was also dumbfounded. He couldn't leave Uncle Ming alone at home with this woman, but he couldn't leave either. So who would go and inform Sicheng in the fields?
Gao Shuzhen was also annoyed. Why did this person have to appear at this time? Couldn't he have waited until she had taken the things away before showing up?
"Such a big family, can't the in-laws make such a small decision? We don't need much, just some food to get through this period."
Hou Yunhai had only heard rumors before, but now that he had seen such a rare gem with his own eyes, he was completely stunned.
Just when he thought this was already too much, he didn't expect it to get even more outrageous. "Look at us, we've been starving to the bone lately. Last time you gave Si Cheng's father a few big hens, so bring some for me this time, so we can replenish our strength and save you from having to make another trip in the future."
Yun Zhiming had witnessed this woman's prowess before and knew that she was first-rate at making trouble, so he didn't want to provoke her this time.
"You said you can only wait for A-Cheng to come back. This is between you and him, and you two have to handle it yourselves."
Gao Shuzhen really had no intention of getting anything out of Shangsi Cheng; she knew she couldn't get anything good out of that ingrate.
Kao Shu-chen: "So that means my son can make all these decisions?"
Hou Yunhai immediately sensed the trap in her words, "Acheng usually only takes care of farming at home and doesn't concern himself with any other matters."
"What you're saying is a bit outrageous. He's the village chief, and he's the one who calls the shots in the whole village, let alone his own family." Gao Shuzhen felt that she wasn't so easily fooled.
Yun Zhiming spoke rather bluntly, "The village and home are two different things. If you can't wait for Acheng to come back before we talk, then I can only ask you to leave first."
