The apocalypse arrived, but there were no zombies. Only unpredictable extreme weather and daily squabbles forced humans to survive on instinct alone to avoid being eliminated.
Yun Qi struggle...
The scene remained silent, but Yunqi had no intention of letting them off so easily. "Although a large portion of our village's young and middle-aged men have left, they are not to be trifled with."
The villagers behind them cooperated, brandishing their weapons. Rows of crossbows and a dozen guns in total, they completely subdued the villages.
They always knew that Pinghe Village was not short of weapons, but wasn't this time they leading people up the mountain? Why are these weapons still in the village?
Seeing their shocked expressions, the villagers of Pinghe Village felt smug. Holding a pistol, Wu Tiancheng pretended to aim and then pulled the trigger on the few who had been shouting the loudest earlier, making them shudder.
"Weren't all your weapons taken up the mountain?" one of the men who had been captured earlier couldn't help but ask.
Yun Qi said, "Do you know how many weapons we have? They think our village has no ability to resist, no wonder they dare to be so arrogant. It's a pity we'll have to disappoint everyone again this time."
As he spoke, he pulled a handgun from the bag behind her waist. "Want to try it? See if it's real?"
After saying that, Yun Qi mischievously removed the magazine, fiddled with the bullets inside, and then put it back in.
Apo's elderly mother rushed out, shouting, "Even if you have weapons, you can't bully us like this! My Apo is dead, you should at least give us an explanation! How can you threaten us with weapons?"
Yunqi looked at the old woman in front of him, and then looked around at the people in confusion, but no one came out to explain to her. Even the village chiefs stood there quietly.
Gao Liang squeezed in at this moment, "Xiao Qi, her son went missing while on night watch, and it's probably badly killed. This is just her taking her anger out on him."
Yunqi sized up Apo's mother. She had seen many people like this who vented their frustrations on others, so she just glanced at her and ignored her.
But the other person was enraged by her glance and pounced on her to scratch Yunqi.
Standing behind Yun Qi, Wu Shan stepped forward and kicked him, sending him flying.
"They're hitting people! People from Pinghe Village are being hit!" At this, Apo's mother sat down on the ground and screamed.
“How could you hit someone? They’re an old man. What if you hurt them? Will you pay for it?” The villagers of Apo Village gathered around.
Yun Qi said, "Now you're talking about loyalty? Don't you even know who started it? Go ahead and sue me if you dare."
As soon as she finished speaking, the people behind her joined in the commotion, jokingly urging the villages to file a complaint.
Yunqi then turned his attention to the village chiefs, saying, "You should each sort out your own village's affairs and not push everything onto others. Our village owes you nothing and has not made any promises to you. If you come to us again to smear us, we don't mind cleaning up your mess."
After saying this, Yunqi nodded to Village Chief Shi and the others who had been standing behind them, then turned around and led his men back to the village.
"Everyone should go back and rest early. It's almost dawn, so go back and recharge." He said, yawning as he walked back.
"Xiao Qi, are we just going to let them go like this!" Yun Liping glanced back at the crowd still standing there, still feeling somewhat indignant.
Yunqi said, "What can we do if we don't let them go? They've just suffered such a terrible loss. If we hurt them now, people around will think we're being unreasonable. Anyway, there's plenty of time. We'll get our revenge eventually."
"We shouldn't have let these people stay in the first place. Now we've brought back a huge problem," Yun Liping couldn't help but complain.
Yunqi said, "What else can we do? Everywhere around here with a water source is packed with people, and we can't escape either. But someone has been stirring things up today, so we'll find out who those people are later."
These villages are all connected, and many of them are relatives of the villagers in Pinghe Village. Once we ask around, we'll know where the problem lies.
Wu Tiancheng said, "However, Xin San Village and Hu Tiao Village are more reliable than those relatives. At least they know to stand in front of us when it matters."
Everyone agrees with this point. Perhaps the relatives tried to persuade them, but it was no match for the other two villages directly confronting these people.
Upon reaching the village entrance, Yunqi stretched and said, "Everyone, let's go back and rest. Unless these two villages ask for our help, let's not come out again. Let them deal with it themselves. The wild beasts in the mountains have tasted the sweetness now, and they will definitely continue to come down the mountain. This matter is not over yet."
It was only then that everyone realized that those villages were so focused on taking advantage of Pinghe Village that they hadn't considered the problem of those wild animals, and they didn't know if they would suffer the consequences later.
At this point, no one thought to remind them. They believed that once they calmed down, someone would eventually come to their senses, and then they would be left to fret on their own.
Thinking about all this, everyone felt much better. They closed the village gate and went home.
Not long after Yunqi and the others left, Xin San Village and Hu Tiao Village also closed their village gates and went home.
The other villages remained untouched, their attacks completely silenced. All that fanfare had vanished without a trace.
"Go back and see if there are any other losses," Village Chief Bai said, seeing his villagers still standing there in a daze.
One village left, and the other villages gradually dispersed as well.
As soon as it got light, everyone knew what had happened the night before. Those who had relatives outside the village wouldn't ask the village gate to be opened so they could go out and visit, no matter how worried they were.
Everyone silently went about their tasks, building high walls around their hearts against the outside world.
“We’ve really offended Pinghe Village this time. It looks like even Xin San Village is distancing themselves from us. They didn’t even open their doors this morning.” Several village chiefs sat together discussing.
Village Chief Gao said, "If it were us, we might be even angrier than them. It's already quite generous of them not to drive away our villages at this point."
Village Chief Liu, "Have you found the people who stirred up trouble last night? Have you found out why they were leading everyone to attack Pinghe Village?"
Village Chief Bai sighed, "I asked them, and their stories were all the same. They all said they couldn't stand that Pinghe Village was doing better than them and wanted to take advantage of the situation to get some benefits."
"I think they don't just want some benefits; it feels like they're trying to sow discord between the two sides, hoping to get us to fight with Pinghe Village." When Village Chief Gao returned later, he thought about it again and again, and he felt that something was wrong.
"The main problem is that many of us have our own agendas. Otherwise, no matter how much others try to stir things up, nothing will come of it." Village Chief Bai was quite philosophical about it, though he was also very disappointed with the behavior of the villagers in these villages recently.
