In her previous life, Qiao Yu thought Jiang Zhan was mentally unstable; she feared and loathed him. Yet, Jiang Zhan endured endless torture to save her, protecting her until his very last breath.
Chapter 10 Jiang Zhan
Qiao Yu recalled the first time she met Jiang Zhan when she was young. She was seven years old and Jiang Zhan was eleven years old.
The mother took Jiang Zhan's mother's hand and said that this was her good friend. Then she took Jiang Zhan's hand and said to him, "Ayu, be good and take your brother out to play, okay? Mommy has something to tell Auntie."
She smiled and took Jiang Zhan's hand, whispering to him "brother", saying she would take him to see her favorite flowers and give him her favorite candy. But he bit her wrist, and the pain made her cry for more than half an hour.
The second time they met, she was twelve and he was sixteen.
He ran over covered in blood, grabbed her hand, and fell straight down. She was so frightened that she had nightmares one after another, and had a high fever for three consecutive days. It took her half a month to recover.
The third time we met was at his coming-of-age ceremony.
In front of everyone, Grandpa Jiang gave him the seal that symbolized the Jiang family's heir status. At that time, she was quietly stuffing a piece of strawberry cake into her mouth. When she looked up, her eyes met his on the stage, and she was so scared that she almost choked to death on the spot.
The fourth time she saw him was on her seventeenth birthday.
That day, she had plans to hang out with friends, but on her way there, he blocked her in an alley and grabbed her in his car. He didn't do anything, didn't even say a word, and she was so frightened that she curled up in a corner and cried. He handed her a box, but she slapped it to the ground without even glancing at it.
After that, Qiao Yu never saw him again. It wasn't until the third year after the apocalypse that they met again in H City.
Qiao Yu thought back to the care he had shown her after their reunion at the end of the world, and the pale face he had displayed when he rushed to save her after she was taken to the lab... He remembered how, at the end of his life, despite being shattered to pieces, he still managed to reach her, hug her, and place a gentle, soothing kiss on her ear...
Memories kept flooding back, and Qiao Yu felt a sharp pain in her head. All she could hear were the words Jiang Zhan said when he kissed her for the last time - "Ayu, don't be afraid"...
All those handsome faces in my memory suddenly overlapped at this moment. Forbearing, indifferent, gentle, doting, helpless... It was really Ah Zhan, the living Ah Zhan...
When Qiao Yu stood there frozen, Jiang Zhan was also staring at Qiao Yu's face silently.
Qiao Yu was looking at him.
This realization filled his heart with a surge of emotion. It was like a fish that had been stranded for a long time finally returning to the water. Only then did he feel like he could breathe again.
But when he saw Qiao Yu's tearful eyes, his heart suddenly sank to the bottom. How could he forget that the person his beloved girl hated the most was him.
The atmosphere is too quiet.
Jiang Zhan put his hands behind his back and clenched his fists nervously, then asked softly again, "Ayu, are you here to see me?"
His voice was dry and low, but it was like a sharp knife, piercing Qiao Yu's heart. Unable to contain herself any longer, she stumbled a few steps and threw herself at Jiang Zhan, hugging him tightly before bursting into tears.
Jiang Zhan's body stiffened the moment she pounced on him, a hint of complexity flashed across his eyes, but more of it was uncontrollable joy.
The girl he had loved for thirteen years was now in his arms. Nothing in the world could make him happier than this.
But she was crying.
Jiang Zhan raised his hand somewhat stiffly and tentatively touched Qiao Yu's back. After finding that she did not struggle, he slowly covered her. "Ayu, what's wrong? Did something happen?"
She shook her head, crying out of breath, but still tried to say: "I'm sorry... I'm sorry... Zhan, I'm sorry..."
Jiang Zhan's eyes darkened, "Why do you want to say sorry to me?"
Qiao Yu shook her head vigorously. She was crying so hard that she couldn't speak, but she still held him tightly, as if all this was an illusion, and he would disappear as soon as she let go.
The surging memories and emotions in her mind constantly tugged at her, stimulating her head to ache more and more. This pain made her body begin to weaken uncontrollably, and even caused tinnitus. The pain intensified, finally reaching its peak at a certain moment - the next second, she lost consciousness.
Jiang Zhan was shocked and immediately carried her into the villa, placed her in his bedroom, and then called Cheng Sinian.
Twenty minutes later, Jiang Zhan frowned as he watched Cheng Sinian examine Qiao Yu and asked in a low voice, "How is she?"
Cheng Sinian withdrew his hand, looked at him, and motioned him to go out and talk.
Jiang Zhan shook Qiao Yu's hand, tucked the quilt in for her, then stood up and followed Cheng Sinian downstairs.
Cheng Sinian knew that Qiao Yu was fine, so he leaned back on the sofa, picked up an orange and started peeling it. "Don't worry, it's nothing serious. She just didn't get enough sleep, was too emotional, and cried too much. She didn't get enough oxygen to her brain and fainted. Let her sleep for a while and she'll be fine."
Seeing Jiang Zhan remained silent, Cheng Sinian stuffed two orange slices into his mouth and continued incoherently, "Brother Zhan, you didn't do something secretly again and the little girl found out, did you? You're crying like this, and someone who doesn't know would think you abandoned her."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Zhan gave him a gloomy look, which frightened Cheng Sinian so much that he almost choked to death on the two orange halves and started coughing.
Jiang Zhan watched Cheng Sinian cough quietly. After he recovered a little, he said in a deep voice, "She hugged me and cried as soon as she arrived."
So Cheng Sinian was stuck again.
"Ahem...what did you say? Ahem...ahem...you said Qiao Yu hugged you?" The sun really did rise from the west. Cheng Sinian coughed until his veins popped out, but he still insisted on speaking to make sure he wasn't hallucinating.
Jiang Zhan did not answer, but just looked at him quietly, his face seemed to have no emotion, but as Jiang Zhan's personal doctor and long-time friend, Cheng Sinian still felt his silent disgust.
When Cheng Sinian finally recovered and his brain barely regained its perception, he realized that his focus had indeed strayed a bit, so he turned and asked, "Brother Zhan, didn't you send someone to follow her? Is there anything unusual?"
Jiang Zhan thought of the large amount of things Qiao Yu had purchased a few days ago. He did not answer, but his expression was quite complicated.
Cheng Sinian had long been accustomed to his indifference and didn't care. Just as he was about to say goodbye, he heard Jiang Zhan suddenly say in a deep voice: "The New Year is coming soon. You should come back and stay for the time being. Don't go to the hospital."
Cheng Sinian was stunned. "Isn't there still..." He was halfway through his words when he suddenly saw Jiang Zhan staring at him with a frown. He immediately admitted his mistake and said, "Okay, Brother Zhan, I have appointments with patients tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. After I finish my consultations the day after tomorrow, I will apply for annual leave."
