Chapter 24 Saving the Child

"Mo Yu, have someone clean this place up, but don't frighten the villagers," Mo Beichen instructed the outside.

Mo Yu: "Yes, Your Highness."

The village chief arrived early the next morning with his men.

A few people behind her were carrying some things, and Yun Qingluo could only see them clearly after they were placed on the table.

A bowl of clear white porridge, a few steamed buns, and a small plate of pickled vegetables.

"Is the harvest bad this year?" Yun Qingluo had no recollection of these things in her previous life, and seeing their impoverished appearance, she assumed that the harvest was very poor this year.

Yun Ziheng shook his head, "This year there was neither drought nor flood, and the spring rain was timely, so the harvest is much better than in previous years."

"Village chief, what does this mean?" Yun Qingluo looked at the distinct grains of rice in the bowl. Was it to prevent them from eating too much?

The village chief shook his head and smiled bitterly, but a middle-aged woman behind him couldn't hold back and knelt down, crawling forward two steps and crying:

"Your Highness, Your Highness, please save my son! Please, Your Highness, Your Highness, please save my poor child!"

Yun Qingluo was startled and quickly asked Mo Feng to help the person in front of her up.

The village chief frowned. "Aunt Hua, didn't I warn you not to bother the Prince and Princess with this matter? The Prince and Princess have important business to attend to in the Southwest. Sigh, you..."

She turned back and knelt down immediately, saying, "Your Highness and Your Highness, please forgive me. Aunt Hua was only worried about her own child. Please don't blame her."

Yun Qinglu waved her hand, "Village Chief, please get up. Aunt Hua, what happened to your son?"

"Waaah, my poor child, he has never had a good day since he was born, and now he is about to die. Please, Your Highness and Your Highness, help me find a doctor to save him!" Granny Hua insisted on not getting up, lying on the ground and covering her face with her hands, crying bitterly despite the cold.

Looking at the heartbroken Aunt Hua, Yun Qingluo felt a pang of sympathy. "Aunt Hua, please get up. If you'd like, I'll go with you to see your son."

Doctors have the hearts of parents, and Yun Qingluo, who has practiced medicine all her life, cannot bear to see someone die.

Upon hearing this, Aunt Hua quickly got up, kowtowed to Yun Qingluo, and then tried to lead Yun Qingluo there.

Mo Beichen pulled Yun Qingluo back, "Just have Mo Feng go and fetch a doctor."

Yun Qinglu patted his hand reassuringly, "You still have things to do right now. Mo Feng will stay and help you. I'll be right back, don't worry."

Yun Ziyu walked to Yun Qingluo's side and said, "I'll go with Luoluo. Your Highness and my elder brother can handle things without worry."

Although Yun Ziheng also wanted to go, he had other matters to attend to at the moment, and he needed to thoroughly investigate the situation at the county government office and here.

Yun Qinglu followed the path to a dilapidated thatched hut. Looking at the low, crumbling hut before her, Yun Qinglu felt a pang of sadness.

In every country and every place, there are places where the sun doesn't shine.

Aunt Hua stood awkwardly at the door, embarrassed to invite Yun Qingluo inside. "The house is dirty. I'll bring my son out so the Princess can see him."

Yun Qingluo stopped Aunt Hua, saying, "Since you're sick, you can't stand the wind and snow. I'll go in and take a look."

After saying that, Yun Qingluo stepped inside first. The room was dark and damp, not much warmer than outside, and there was even wind and snow blowing in.

Yun Qingluo looked up at the child on the bed covered with a tattered thin blanket. The child was only seven or eight years old, with a sallow complexion and furrowed brows, and seemed to be very uncomfortable.

Yun Qingluo approached and saw that his face was flushed. She reached out to touch him, but was startled and withdrew her hand.

The child has a high fever, a burning temperature, probably around 40 degrees Celsius. The fever is making him delirious.

"Isn't there a doctor in the village?" Yun Qingluo sat by the bed and took the child's pulse. He was starving, anemic, and had a high fever. This could kill him.

"The village doctor was summoned to the county government to treat the official's wife, and he never came back. There are no other doctors in the village. My son, Your Highness, my son, he..." Aunt Hua cried again as she spoke.

Yun Qingluo impatiently interrupted her crying, "Stop crying, crying is the most useless thing. You should think of a solution instead. Go boil a pot of water, hurry up."

"Second Brother, could you please bring me the porridge I've been cooking? This child is starving," Yun Qingluo said, turning to Yun Ziyu.

Yun Ziyu hesitated for a moment, "But, Luo Luo, are you all alone?"

Yun Qinglu shook her head. "Second brother, time is life. If you hurry, I'll be fine. They're all dead now, and the village is safe."

"Okay, I'll be right back. Luo Luo, take care of yourself." Yun Ziyu said and ran off. That child was indeed pitiful, and it would be good to save her if possible.

Seeing that no one was around, Yun Qingluo took out two enhanced antipyretics developed by the medical system and fed them to the child.

I took out a glass of purified water, gently lifted the child's head, and let him drink the water to swallow the medicine.

"Good boy, you'll feel better after drinking the medicine. Open your mouth, ah." Yun Qingluo fed water to the child's dry lips.

The child was probably extremely hungry, and even though he was not fully conscious, he still swallowed instinctively, which made it easier to give him medicine.

Yun Qingluo was afraid that his fever was too high and the medicine would not work, so she turned him over and gave the child an injection in his buttocks. She saw that the child was in pain and wanted to dodge.

Yun Qingluo quickly freed one hand to hold him down, "Be good, it'll be ready soon, and then you'll get something delicious to eat."

The child stopped moving when he heard about food. Yun Qingluo touched his thin, bony arm, feeling a pang of sadness.

Even a fool could tell that this was the work of the government and the bandits. I wonder what Mo Beichen and his elder brother planned to do.

After giving the injection, Yun Qingluo took out gold needles and inserted them into the child's head to prevent him from becoming mentally impaired due to the fever.

Yun Ziyu was anxious and ran over carrying the whole pot. Behind her, Mo Yu was carrying cornbread and pickled vegetables, which the village chief had just given to them.

"Luo Luo, is the child alright?" Yun Ziyu asked quickly when she saw that the child's face didn't seem as red as before.
