Chapter 10 Going Home

“Young Miss, we are sisters. I am Bai Tao, the eldest. My mother gave birth to the four of us with her last bit of strength. My father and mother loved each other very much, but after my mother passed away, they were saddened and fell ill. They also passed away soon after. Our relatives thought that I was a girl and had brought bad luck to both of us, so they abandoned us four by the roadside. Fortunately, Madam Yan happened to pass by and rescued us, taking us sisters to live in the orphanage. She often visits us orphans. Half a year ago, Madam Yan said that the eldest young lady was coming back, so she brought Bai Lan and me to study and take care of the eldest young lady. Bai Zhi and Bai Su were taken away when they were very young, and we only saw them recently.” As she spoke, the four sisters knelt down. After Bai Tao finished speaking, she looked up at Yan An, unsure whether her mistress would be displeased because she had said too much.

As she finished speaking, all four sisters knelt down. After Bai Tao finished speaking, she looked up at Yan An, unsure whether her master would be displeased because she had said too much.

"Get up and perform the same rituals your mother commanded you to do in front of others. You need not kneel before me."

Yan An did not like the kneeling etiquette, but he couldn't help it because outsiders would say that the General's Mansion was ignorant of etiquette, so he still had to put on a show in front of outsiders.

"Your mother loved your father, which is why she gave birth to you and your four children. Your father also missed your mother and wanted to go to another world to reunite with her. Compared to separation, they are happy. How can it be your fault? Don't think like that again." Yan Ancai couldn't stand the gossiping of his aunts and uncles.

"Thank you, Miss." The four of them had tears in their eyes, filled with indescribable gratitude. They were about to kneel down to thank Miss when they remembered what Yan An had just said, so they stood up and bowed.

"Since you were chosen by Mother, I am at ease. But there is one thing you must not betray me, or else, snap." Yan An made a throat-slitting gesture.

"This servant will go through fire and water for Miss. If I betray her, may I die without a burial place." The four were not afraid, because their lives were given to them by Madam Yan, and they had never thought of betraying her.

Her mother had really put a lot of thought into choosing these four maids for her. Bai Tao was rather shrewd and was suitable to be the head maid. Bai Zhi was good at martial arts. Bai Lan was clever and quick-witted and might be able to help her with medical skills. Bai Su was good at light-body skills.

Yan An arranged things according to the four people's abilities, "You don't need to keep watch from now on. Also, I don't wake up very early in the morning. Unless there are special circumstances, come and help me wash up around 9 am. You can get me some hot water and then go to rest."

"Yes, Miss." The four bowed and went to prepare.

After Yan An finished washing up, he lay down on the bed and quickly fell asleep.

A figure stood on a treetop in the distance, almost invisible unless you looked closely. Dressed in black, this person was none other than Yue Xiyuan. In the afternoon, An Si returned to the palace and told Yue Xiyuan about Yue Lai Ke's situation. Yue Xiyuan then confirmed that Luo Zhi was Yan An, and Yan An was Luo Zhi.

The once intimidating Regent was now crouching in a corner. Anyone familiar with him would be utterly astonished. Yue Xiyuan knew that Yan An had strong perception abilities, so he dared not approach and could only watch from a distance.

Yue Xiyuan didn't know why, he just lay in bed tossing and turning, unable to sleep, feeling he needed to check on Yan An to feel at ease. He watched as the light in Yan An's room went out before turning away.

Yan An slept soundly without any dreams.
