Jiang Xile was an eighth-level dual-ability powerhouse in the apocalypse, known as the Queen of Dual Elements. After struggling for several years in the apocalypse, she unexpectedly encountered a c...
It was another early morning, and everyone hurriedly got out of bed to the sound of a loudspeaker playing music.
The aroma of food was already wafting from the kitchen. Around four o'clock, Jiang Xile got out of bed.
Today is her and Ren Qi's turn to cook.
Last time it was her turn, she had to go to Sweet City, so she had to pay two peach shortbreads to have someone else take her place.
This can be said to be Jiang Xile's first time participating in duty at the educated youth settlement.
Even the original owner of this body had never cooked a meal in a large pot.
The Jiang family consists of only a few people, and they usually eat at the canteen for lunch and dinner. They can make do with whatever they have for breakfast.
Therefore, the original owner's cooking skills could only be described as average; at best, he could cook things properly.
Before the apocalypse, Jiang Xile didn't like cooking, and after the rise of food delivery services, she often relied on them to fill her stomach.
After the apocalypse, there was no such thing as cooking anymore. All we ate were compressed biscuits and instant noodles, so there was no need for any culinary skills.
When Jiang Xile arrived at the kitchen in the morning, she was completely bewildered, her mind was blank, and she had no idea what to do.
Fortunately, Ren Qi was there. As a veteran educated youth, Ren Qi was quite observant. She noticed Jiang Xile's predicament immediately and then comforted her with a smile:
"Don't be nervous, it's just cooking a meal. You can earn eight work points a day, how can you not be able to cook a meal?"
"Sister Renqi, I'm really confused, I have no idea where to start!"
"It's always like this the first time. Just follow my instructions, and I guarantee there won't be any problems!"
"Then I'll be counting on you, sister! I promise to obey orders and follow commands. Wherever you point, I'll go!"
"Just follow instructions. Let's start the fire now!"
"Oh, okay, okay!"
Although starting a fire requires a certain level of skill, Jiang Xile knows how to do it.
According to the original owner's memories, Jiang Xile picked up a few thick pieces of firewood from the woodpile next to the stove and placed them under the stove pit. She then put some thinner pieces of firewood on top and lit them with old newspapers.
The firewood was dried very thoroughly, and soon a fire broke out.
Ren Qi nodded in agreement. Although she had been a little flustered earlier, she had acted quite quickly, at least she hadn't held him back!
Seeing the fire starting up, Ren Qi looked at Jiang Xile and said:
"Add half a pot of water; I'll need it in a bit. After you're done, go to the backyard, pick a cabbage, and wash it clean!"
"Okay! I understand!"
After adding a few more pieces of firewood to the stove to make sure the fire wouldn't go out, Jiang Xile quickly ran to the vegetable garden behind to pick vegetables.
In the lush vegetable garden, the Chinese cabbages grew exceptionally robustly, each weighing about five or six pounds.
Jiang Xile didn't go further in; she just picked one from the edge of the ridge and took it to the kitchen.
Holding a kitchen knife, he imitated the original owner's actions, chopped off the vegetable roots, and was about to throw it into the slop bucket when Ren Qi called out to him.
"Don't throw it away!"
Jiang Xile paused, holding the vegetable root in her hand.
"Sister Renqi, what are you keeping this thing for!"
"Make some pickled vegetables, they'll be perfect with lunch!"
"You can use this to pickle vegetables?"
"Of course, you'll see when I've finished!"
When Ren Qi cooked last time, Jiang Xile wasn't there, so naturally she didn't get to eat this pickled vegetable made from cabbage roots.
With a touch of curiosity, Jiang Xile put the cabbage root aside.
"This one alone can't be enough!"
"It's okay, after we finish making breakfast, we'll go pick a few more, since we'll need them for lunch and dinner anyway!"
Jiang Xile nodded. Ren Qi was right. Cabbage was the main dish for the educated youth. Cabbage was a constant, while potatoes were a constant.
"Okay, I'll do whatever you say, sister!"
Ren Qi smiled. Before they had much contact, she thought Jiang Xile was not an easy person to deal with, but now it seemed that she was quite nice!
"The cabbage is washed and placed on the cutting board. I'll chop it in a bit!"
Ren Qi gave her a word of advice, but thinking that Jiang Xile couldn't cook, she didn't let her chop any vegetables, fearing that if she did, she wouldn't be able to work.
Although Jiang Xile can't cook, she can still chop vegetables without any problem. After all, she used to chop zombies with a big knife, so chopping a cabbage shouldn't be a problem. Besides, the original owner of this body also knew how to chop vegetables.
"Sister Renqi, why don't you let me try cutting it? I think cutting vegetables should be pretty simple!"
Are you sure?
"Of course, but you have to tell me how you want it cut!"
"Just chop it up or dice it. We'll make cornmeal porridge in the morning, add some cabbage, and then season it with a little salt!"
"Just dice it! That's easy, the finer the better!"
"Well, it's all in the porridge anyway, so you can cut it however you want, just be careful not to cut your hand!"
"Don't worry, Sister Renqi, leave this to me!"
"Alright then, be careful yourself. I'll go and knead the dough for lunch."
"Okay, go ahead!"
As soon as Ren Qi left, Jiang Xile picked up a cleaver and started chopping at the cabbage. With a snap, Jiang Xile's cleaver struck the root of the cabbage.
Although the outer root had been cut off, a little bit remained inside.
With a strong pull, she split the cabbage in two. Since she was going to dice it, she naturally had to cut it into strips first, so Jiang Xile began her great work of chopping vegetables.
This is much easier than killing zombies. With Jiang Xile's strength, this kind of work is no problem at all.
Before long, a bowl of diced cabbage was ready. Ren Qi walked over with the bowl and saw Jiang Xile finishing up.
