Feng Haidong lived an unremarkable life and passed away peacefully. After his death, he found himself back in 1996.
Now in his prime at the age of thirty, Feng Haidong resolves to try just a ...
After the National Day holiday ended, Feng Haidong rented a minivan and drove his parents, wife, and niece back to town.
That night, Feng Haidong and his son stayed at his parents' house in town.
I helped my parents clean and tidy up the house.
I spent the night with my parents, wife, and niece.
The next day, Feng Haidong took his son back to the city by bus.
The father and son had just entered the house when they heard someone knocking on the door.
Feng Haidong came out of the house and asked as he walked towards the courtyard gate, "Who is it?"
Someone outside immediately responded: "We are from the neighborhood committee."
When he heard the people outside say they were from the neighborhood committee, Feng Haidong was immediately startled. He almost immediately thought: they knew about his wife's pregnancy.
Subsequently, Feng Haidong secretly blamed himself for his carelessness.
I was so careless. During the National Day holiday, I was only thinking about doing business and making my wife and children happy. I didn't pay attention to hiding my wife's pregnancy. Although I left early and returned late every day, it was hard to guarantee that the neighbors wouldn't see it.
During the National Day holiday, Feng Haidong and his parents kept a close watch on his wife.
The whole family leaves very early in the morning and goes straight to the restaurant.
Then, using business as an excuse, the family would return home quite late at night, basically around the same time when everyone in the residential compound was resting.
But now that the neighborhood committee has come knocking, Feng Haidong feels that he may not have been able to keep it a secret.
With various thoughts swirling in his mind, Feng Haidong still responded and walked to the gate, opening the iron gate to the courtyard.
Three women stood outside the door. One of them was older and had gray hair. Feng Haidong knew that she was the director of the neighborhood committee. He had also seen the other two women before.
Feng Haidong greeted us with a smile, “Director, please come in. My son and I just returned from my parents’ place. The house was a bit messy because we didn’t tidy it up during the National Day holiday. Please forgive us.”
Seeing Feng Haidong politely inviting everyone in, the neighborhood committee director led the people inside.
Upon entering, the neighborhood committee director immediately asked, "Feng Haidong, is your wife, Lu Wanling, at home?"
Feng Haidong smiled and said, "She's not home. My wife's company sent her out to do business, and she went out again right after the National Day holiday."
A woman who accompanied them asked, "Not at home? You've gone out of town again?"
Feng Haidong nodded: "Yes, I came back for a few days to rest during the National Day holiday, and then left right after the holiday."
Another woman asked sarcastically, "You're not deliberately avoiding us, are you?"
Upon hearing this, Feng Haidong chuckled and retorted, "Avoiding you? Why should we avoid you? Does that mean your neighborhood committee is now a law enforcement agency?"
Upon hearing Feng Haidong's words, the sarcastic woman immediately retorted, "Feng Haidong, don't think we don't know anything. Is your wife pregnant again?"
Feng Haidong paused for a moment, then asked, "My wife is pregnant again? How did you know?"
The other person said, "Stop pretending to be stupid."
Feng Haidong asked calmly, "How am I pretending to be stupid?"
"you……"
The neighborhood committee director stopped the woman who wanted to argue with Feng Haidong.
Then the director looked at Feng Haidong seriously and said, "We have naturally received news about this matter, otherwise we would not have come to see you today. Feng Haidong, you should know the current policy. If your wife is pregnant, it is against the policy. You should think carefully."
Feng Haidong smiled and replied, "Director, my wife isn't home right now. Should we wait until she gets back before discussing this?"
Before the director could reply, Feng Haidong continued, "We are law-abiding citizens and would never violate policies. If we do something against the policies, we will be willing to accept whatever consequences or punishments we face."
Upon hearing Feng Haidong's words, the director exchanged a glance with him, clearly understanding his meaning.
However, the other two women who came with the director were still dissatisfied with Feng Haidong's attitude.
The woman who had been speaking sarcastically earlier said, "Feng Haidong, having more children than allowed is no small matter. Don't think you can get away with this just because your wife isn't coming back."
Another woman said very seriously, "Even if you hide now, you'll still have to find us when you register your child's birth."
Feng Haidong also understood that he would definitely have to go to the neighborhood committee to register his child's household registration in the future.
However, Feng Haidong still has no intention of bowing down to the neighborhood committee.
After a moment of silence, he said, “Director, there are two more of you. You are also mothers, so you can certainly understand a mother’s feelings. I have a son, so we don’t have any feudalistic ideas about wanting a son.”
Feng Haidong's words have already made his point quite clear.
The neighborhood committee director frowned slightly upon hearing this.
The two women present were immediately intrigued, as if they had found something to hold against Feng Haidong, and their arrogance instantly increased.
"Feng Haidong, are you admitting it by saying that?"
"Feng Haidong, if your wife is pregnant, you'd better have her come back and go to the hospital to have an abortion, otherwise the consequences could be very serious."
Seeing that the two men were becoming increasingly arrogant, Feng Haidong stopped being polite to them.
“Gentlemen, I can tell you clearly that whatever choice my wife makes, I, as her husband, will support her. And please don’t forget what your responsibilities as a neighborhood committee are. Don’t think you can interfere in other people’s families at will.”
